A mini-manual of her summon mechanics:
The summon spell has various uses depending on context:
- Before you complete the second quest, it simply summons her to you. This will work every time.
- After you complete the second quest, if you have one free hand, it summons her directly into your hand as a weapon. This combines beautifully with her javelin mechanic. Throw, retrieve, throw, retrieve.
- If she is in the middle of a fight you think she can't win, summoning her to you will make her temporarily flee for a few seconds.
- If she was already defeated, summoning her to you will revive her.
- If she is currently mind-controlling an enemy who picked her up off the ground, summoning her to you will make her instantly kill her wielder, then portal either to your side or to your hand, if it was free.
- If she is already very close to you, and your other hand is not free, then summoning her will do nothing, because... what would it do? She's already there. Imagine her raising an eyebrow at you :)

- If she is inhabiting a body, and you summon her, her host body will die. Then she will either appear next to you, or in your hand, if it was free.
- If you already have her in your inventory, then the summon spell will portal to you her last inhabited body instead, and she'll go in automatically. So, for example, you can leave her host body behind, surf on her at high speed to the other side of Skyrim, then summon back the host body you left behind, and she promptly gets back in it. Good way to travel, and you don't have to leave her wardrobe behind just because you wanted to surf.
I recommend using the Lesser Power; it's built with convenience in mind:
- If she's in a body: kills the body, summons to hand and equips.
- If she's floating around: summons to hand and equips.
- If she's already in your inventory, but unequipped: equips.
- If she's already in your inventory and equipped, but unsheathed: javelin throw
- Spoiler:ShowIf she's already in your inventory and equipped, but sheathed: summon last-used body.
Feel free to favorite the Lesser Power and rely on it for all of the above.
