This mod has been a dream of mine for a while, so I am excited to finally make it happen.

The mod blocks the ability to save whenever. Instead, you have two options: sleep or journal.

The first time your character goes to sleep, the game will make a hard save, and they will wake up with a Personal Journal added to their inventory.

Starting from the version 1.2, interrupting the sleep (Tab while in the sleeping menu) will abort the saving and/or journal adding. Sleep full time.

From that moment onwards you might want to start stocking up on Paper and Ink, and also acquire a Quill.

In order to save via your journal, you need 1 Roll of Paper (00033761), 1 Inkwell (0004c3c6), and 1 Quill (0004c3c8).

Paper and Ink will be consumed on making a save, but the quill will remain in your inventory. To make it more sensible, I have added a bit more writing supplies to misc items and spell tome vendors.

Using a journal to write down your progress takes 1 hour. Additionally, it grants you a bonus to your max Stamina and max Magicka (to compensate for the lack of Rested or Well Rested bonus you would've gotten from sleeping).

Alternatively, you can also save by sleeping. No additional requirements or buffs here.

Sleeping or journaling, the mod always makes a hard save (not auto or quicksave: the default notifications do say "Autosave", but if you look in the saves list you'll see the full save).

In addition to the main mod, I've also added a small standalone mod fitting the theme: it changes the saving notifications. Can be used with or without the main mod. Light plugin.

As an addon to the main mod, I've added a silly replacer: changing the Personal Journal into The Book of Fate. It has a vanilla version (with USSEP changes carried over) and a LoTD required version (for fancier book model/textures).

I have also added a standalone mod changing the saving notifications to mention The Book of Fate (can be used with vanilla or LoTD version, doesn't matter).

And there is a sleep to save only (without any journaling) version available in the misc files. It is not compatible with the main version, naturally. Any save restricting mod is not compatible with any other by design.

Compatibility

The main mod is not altering any vanilla data.

Writing supplies are added to general stores and wizards via a small script (it initializes on game start). Any mods, including new lands ones, should be compatible if they use vanilla leveled lists (emphasis on the should, depends on the author's choices, so I would stock up before venturing far away, if I were you).

Buff after saving is added using vanilla effects, so potions with FortifyMagicka and FortifyStamina effects are likely to override it, if you take any after.

Known compatibility issues and bugs:

> Paperquest, which a small script delivering writing supplies to the vendors, is not very reliable.

> Any mods also restricting saving function are likely to be incompatible. Choose one.

Go to bed: actually, I stand corrected, it is fully compatible.

partially compatible. Saving on sleep doesn't work (because of GtB's approach to sleeping). Journal saving should be unaffected.

Changing that incompatibility would require rewriting the main script and instead of attaching it to sleeping, connecting it to the Rested magic effect or something... Idk. If you can fix it, please add a patch depending on both plugins.

> No Boring Sleep-Wait Menu is reported to be incompatible for some very Skyrim reason.

> Mods with Death Alternative like respawning function are reported to interrupt the save blocking mechanics somehow. Sleep to fix it.

My scripts here are based on Immersive Sleep to Save, so this is expectable. Personally, I use Wounds instead for narrative (and bug avoiding) purposes. If you run into a situation when respawning allows you to save again, simply sleep again, and the situation should fix itself. I won't be adding extra scripting to prevent this compatibility related issue, it's likely to mess up something else.

> Skyrim Souls, a mod that unpauses inventory, (there have been multiple versions and updates, but they all share this issue) will break the journal saving function, unless you set bBookMenu = false in the Skyrim Souls.ini.

It doesn't support adding scripts to books/notes, etc., I have seen this being an issue with Recorder and other mods relying on a script attached to a book. Keep books paused, and these mods should work together just fine.

> Last Seed also uses the first time the player goes to sleep for its script. So if you use this mod and LS together, and you haven't started LS before going to bed, you will not have a save after the first sleep! There is always a notification on making a save. Simply take a short nap, initiate LS, and then sleep again to save after its installation is complete. Alternatively you can enable LS from the MCM.

> Optional light plugins to change game saving notifications need to be placed after mods like Requiem or YOT, because they also change those.

> Optional Book of Fate replacer for the journal relies on Legacy of the Dragonborn being installed, because it mimics their take on the original Book of Fate. However it does not edit any Legacy data and therefore does not conflict with any of its patches, etc. Just thought I should make it clear.
