What this mod does

This mod replaces bound weapon models, aiming for an aesthetic that is less flashy than vanilla while still feeling distinctly magical.

Bound weapons covered include:
Models will probably be brighter if you use an ENB than if you don't.  I think they look fine either way, but some of the models definitely look different between the two.  The mod images mostly use Silent Horizons ENB; there's also a comparison image for the default bound battleaxe to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

Options are packed as a FOMOD for convenience.

Compatibility

Compatible:
  • Any mod that doesn't directly alter the same meshes this mod does
  • (Including mods that change speed, damage, or other stats of bound weapons)
  • Easiest way to check is to see whether any files conflict/overwrite between this mod and the other, or to just try it ingame and see if everything looks ok
Incompatible:
  • Other bound weapon replacers
  • I wouldn't expect any crashes out of conflicts between this and other mods; you should just see whichever model was installed/loaded last

Why is my bound sword facing the wrong way when I summon it?

While working on this mod, I noticed a few things that are strange about the bound weapon visuals.  As far as I can tell, these aren't unique to this mod's models and in fact appear to happen in my close-to-vanilla testing install as well.  However, they are a bit more visible with these models, so I thought I'd mention them in case anyone notices them and is wondering what's going on.

First of all, bound swords and daggers (and maybe others?) appear to be flipped around during the summoning animation.  When your character casts Bound Sword, they hold their hand out, the sword appears facing you, and then the animation finishes and the sword ends up in your character's hand but is now facing outwards.  No idea if that's intentional or not, but this always seemed backwards to me.

Second of all, if you summon a bound weapon in first person, then switch into third person and back to first person, the model can appear brighter afterwards.  I don't know if this is unique to bound weapons or if it also affects other models in the game.

Both of these are harmless as far as I can tell, just a visual thing.  If they bother you a lot-- yeah, they bug me too, but I'm not aware of anything I can do about it.

Could you make <x> other bound weapon / ENB light version / etc?

I made this mod as a personal replacer (because due to some combination of my poor eyesight, graphics mods, and the fact that I play pretty much entirely in first person, the bound weapons in my game were so bright and flame-covered onscreen that I couldn't focus on the rest of the game).  I was originally considering also making colorful versions of the Animated Armoury weapons and possibly some other modded bound weapons.

However, the level of tedium involved with doing the edits in NifSkope and testing and fixing everything completely broke my spirit and I only managed to prod myself into finishing these.  Unfortunately at this point I have no enthusiasm for taking the project further.

Which is all to say that this mod is provided more or less as-is.  I'll likely fix any major issues if they arise, but I don't plan to fulfill requests for patches or other versions of these.

But permissions are completely open, so you're welcome to use these assets for anything you'd like.  If you're familiar with NifSkope you may be able to work out what I changed just by comparing the vanilla files to this mod's versions; alternately you can ask me in the comments and I'll do my best to point you in the right direction.

(Please do check the permissions tab for specific info on which assets in this mod come from other authors if you plan to publish anything based on them.)

tl;dr: Theoretically yes, but actually no.  Sorry.  Asset permissions are open.
