Yeah, looks so, I will have to find time to see if I can address this sometime. I haven't played Skyrim in a while and didn't realize they had updated.
Thanks for the info.
Edit: For now, most I can recommend would be to see if you can just drag it out as a loose file from the mod to fix it even if it isn't upscaled. I likely won't have time to address this for a while. Got enough real life stuff to deal with and what little time I do have I have been wanting to try out Baldur's Gate 3. Once summer vacation ends and the kids start school again, the free time might pick up enough to reliably try and look into it.
Absolutely no hurry! I was able to find a quick fix using SB - Better Blending Helgen Mud. Real life stuff takes precedence over these silly modding things. Enjoy your time with your kids!
Thanks, not my kids but nephews but close enough. Looking into it some, looks like I might have to do a little more work in updating it this time too. Project Clarity is no longer being maintained and replacing it with something that isn't upscaled could potentially be jarring when you see them along with something that has been.
If you come across any other mistakes like this, please let me know. Regardless of his permissions being open, may end up asking the maker of the mod you mentioned about including his.
Edit: Will have to rethink asking him as it is a mesh and not a texture, if I go that route it may break compatibility with other stuff and setting this up to be a starting point that has no compatibility issues for any mod so that it can be built onto easily without worry.
Yeah, this seems to be a mesh issue. I was able to find a copy of that mesh (helgenmud01.nif) from an older version of Skyrim (1.5.97) and it points to the textures "RatwayBMudFloor02.dds" and "RatwayBMudFloor01_n.dds". That same mesh for the newer version of Skyrim (1.6.1170) points to different textures "Dirt02FloorAlpha.dds" and "Dirt02_N.dds".
Sure thing. My apologizes, wasn't thinking about it. Now stickyed.
Sorry I haven't gotten around to messing with it, I haven't even played Skyrim I think in a year now and what free time I get, it hasn't even been on my mind.
Never used that mod, so no clue about that. This shouldn't be missing a single texture file at all. When I compressed them, I even compared to the files of this to the extracted files of the retail game and everything overwrote without a single missing or extra file out of it if I recall.
I am using "Vanilla Remastered (Optimized) - Textures Upscaled and Reworked" and performance are like he said: "with no stuttering with decent lods and Vram usage has been improved and perform almost same as vanilla and in some instances improve over vanilla" and vanilla textures looks good, like in pictures.
When I found a mod that would upscale the entire game together, I knew this was going to be great for me! Thank you very much for the mod <3 I endorse this and am certain that I would endorse it for the original author's work as well!
Just download it with a mod manager and install it like any other mod.
If you want to download it manually, just replace the files of the same names in the directory where they go (Can't remember the exact names anymore). You can overwrite your old BSA files but I would recommend that you just place them in a backup folder just incase you want to remove it at a later date for some reason if you install it manually.
Yes, if you are using Project Clarity, there is no reason to use this. I actually used Project Clarity in making this.
I made this one using them and other sources to make both the simplest install that I know replaces virtually everything with upscaled and cleaned textures that I also 100% knew would always be overwritten with any other mods to replace it.
As for how this was made, I took all the original files in the games textures and extracted them, then I replaced those textures with the upscaled textures from the sources mentioned on the main page, then I compressed that back into the same files names as the games actual BSA files.
What happens with this is the mod manager loads these files instead of the games normal texture files, as far as the game is concerned these are the original, doesn't even know a mod is loaded. And then any new texture mods you install will 100% always overwrite these just like if you installed a texture mod normally with no other mods. Sorry if this is a little hard to read, kinda scatterbrained at the moment.
Not entirely. The original cleaned textures was EVERYTHING. While Project Clarity did miss a few here and there files.
The cleaned textures are still like ~99% overwritten, but not completely. So I wanted to make sure that even the few stuff that was missed in upscaling was still at least cleaned and made sure I never missed anything when repackaging it.
The main things I think that weren't upscaled was stuff like blood splatters if I remember correctly though. But I would have rather kept the clean files that were more VRAM friendly with the same look than to keep the original files.
I haven't played in a while so can't remember the version numbers anymore but the current one should work with the release of the anniversary edition onward.
The older version should work with the older release of the game.
Can I extract the .bsa files an throw them one by one on Vortex instead of the compressed file? It will work? When I download from the direct link here or even manual and "Install from file" it take ages and nothing happens, I think that is because of the big file and my old potato PC. I have some mods but the largest are the locations ones (Beyond Skyrim, Falskaar etc) and those installed fine with Vortex, I'm playing basically Vanilla with new places and SkyUI just fine, but I'd like to pump up the visuals a little bit, since my PC is old I would like to try Base Coat, it looks perfect since it's not a heavy mod and maintain the original art concept. Thank you in advance.
You can extract them if you want, but if you are going that way, you can also download them straight from the original authors if you want if that is easier.
And the game won't actually show it as a mod because there is no ESM files or anything like that, its just the BSA files named exactly like what Skyrim has in the directory. The game doesn't even know a mod is installed with this one. It just loads the BSA files like it does the normal ones and keeps going.
Don't use Vortex, so no clue how it will see this.
Yes, the current version is for the current version of Skyrim, the older release works for the version of Skyrim that was before the Anniversary Update.
Well. Knock me over with a feather. I recently returned to play Skyrim after a couple of years of not playing. Looking over my old load order, I booted it up to discover it still workes fine except for one thing. I discovered that I was using Skyrim HD for SE instead of this mod. I have always used Base Coat since it first came out and have no idea how Skyrim HD got into my load order. Now I have downloaded Base Coat for the SE version and went into the game to play. I discovered that somehow, (maybe it was me) that Skyrim HD, all 3 parts, is no longer in my load order. Instead I have all 11 of Basecoat Textures and Terrain LOD. I could see the difference right away and Base Coat makes the game look more "real" to me. How nice the trees pop out and the grass so green. Buildings and rocks are so defined and the water is so blue. Awesome!
Thank you so very much for taking the time to make this mod and sharing it. It will not leave my load order I can assure you that. As soon as I get back in the game I will see if I can post some pictures, if I remember how to. Even though my set up is capable of running enb and/or a reshade, I do not use them because I wanted to go without them this time.
Thank you again. I endorsed and I am extremely happy with the results.
No problem. But just a quick FYI, the version of Base Coat that included Terrain LOD built in was built around the older version, the Anniversary Update onward, will likely give issues.
The newer release didn't include the Terrain LOD because I wasn't sure how well it worked with newer version. So left it out. But if it still works fine, can always layer the official mod of it overtop of the newer release of basecoat and it should work just fine.
Hey , great work ! so i download the 13.7 gb file .And i am all good to go ? do i need any of all these bsa parts below ? or i am good with the main ? i am at aniversary edition with creation club .Thanks !
That is good to know Fuguss and thank you for letting me know. I downloaded the version for SE as I have not upgraded to AE yet. A lot of the mods I use are "older" ones from before AE came out. With all the problems that AE mods are causing I decided to stick with SE, especially since some mods are not being updated. So the ones I downloaded were those under the Miscellaneous section (Downloaded all 11 of them). I will stick with it as I manually downloaded them and then had MO2 install them. I carry a heavy load order and use only Verdant for a grass mod. Like I mentioned, no enb and no reshade. Going without them this time around.
Again, thank you very much for your work and especially for sharing.
i meant to ask about the creation club content support , but i dont think it effects performance a lot . I think your mod will be great for boosting perfornace , about to test it right now !
The files divided into parts are the same as the single download, I did that for people who have issues with the larger downloads interrupting or corrupting for them. If the main download works, you don't need the optional files.
For creation club support, they can be found here as loose files. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/58801

No problem. most I can say is to make sure to endorse the original authors for their works. All the cleaning and upscaling came from them. I just repackaged them to be as user friendly as possible.

But doesn't project clarity just overwrite cleaned textures and sseut? Why start with those? Aren't they totally overwritten?
