About this mod

The Blue Palace stands on a rock on the South side of the Solitude bay, but to reach the same spot at ground level, while staying dry you have to go as far as Dragon Bridge and around the marsh... So here's a convenient fix - the city of Solitude itself now allows you cross the channel, just go up to the city on one side and down on the other.

Changelogs
If you play Skyrim with survival mods, such as Frostfall, or simply like to avoid swimming in those freezing waters for better roleplay, you probably find it annoying that you can't reach your Windstad Manor, for example, without taking the long road through Dragon Bridge. Even Morthal would be so close, if only you were able to climb down that rock that the Blue Palace stands on.

Now, you can, from a door in the palace courtyard to another door down by the beach. As simple as that, with minimal footprint, suitable to a heavily modded game.

I love Solitude Skyway, which also provides an excellent way to cross the channel - it's a much better mod than this, but it changes quite a number of cells and requires a lot of patching if you run other mods that affect the same area. I wanted to do something with minimal footprint, maximum compatibility.

Your comments, constructive criticism and endorsements are all welcome.

Compatibility notes:

  • Solitude Skyway: both mods add doors very close to one another, both in Solitude and in the main worldspace. While they will both work for the player, NPCs will only be able to use one path or the other - whichever you have loading last. I didn't make a patch because I think using both mods is redundant, but it wouldn't be hard to do if people want it.
  • Legacy of The Dragonborn: patch provided for combined navmesh, load the main file from this mod after Legacy and the patch after both. IMPORTANT NOTICE: the current patches for LOTD work with the current version of Legacy (5.x). You can still download patches for the previous version (4.1.6) in old files.
  • Imperial Mail: load this mod after Imperial Mail and use the patch provided. The patch also reverts the courtyard from Imperial Mail's changes to the original form, which keeps things more in balance IMHO.
  • Alternative Courtyard (Blue Palace) SE:  use patch provided. Load order not important as long as the patch is (necessarily) loaded after both mods. Note: the Alternative Courtyard plugin can be cleaned from 10 ITMs with xEdit. Some of those are navmesh ITMs that could break other mods loading earlier (not this one, as long as the patch is used).
  • Solitude Expansion: compatible with patch provided. Minor conflict along the border of two neighbouring cells. Thanks to ra2phoenix for pointing this out.
  • Solitude Public Bathhouse and any other mods that change the Blue Palace Courtyard: if they make navmesh changes, at the very least a patch will be needed to restore navmesh links to all mods. On request, I may add more patches in the future.
  • Drengin's Blue Palace Terrace and LOTD: patch that addresses navmesh conflicts only, and moves the back door in the courtyard that was clipping with a statue. Requires another patch that fixes other conflicts between LOTD and BPT - I use the one available here. Load my patch after the other one, it has to win navmesh conflicts.

Other notes:

Pathfinding - NPCs will likely use this very convenient shortcut when choosing their path from Solitude to Dawnstar or Morthal, and cross a good deal of wilderness where they can meet with beasts and bandits. If they're not flagged Protected or Essential, they can be killed! I've never had a problem, but use this at your own risk.

This mod will work great with Northern Marsh Bridges, making a perfect quick route to Windstad Manor and Dawnstar along the coast.
