  • VHR FAQ

How does this mod work exactly?

This mod works in the same way that Shiva's Hair Replacer does, by replacing the vanilla hairstyle mesh paths with custom ones linked to chosen mesh replacements. The game engine currently limits actual mesh replacement of hairs like other mesh replacers - an esp editing the filepaths is necessary to make this mod work. This is the only workaround currently that can actually replace the vanilla hairs in the game.

    Which hairs are edited?

    Replaces ALL Nord/Imperial/Breton male hairstyles (Mimp01, Mnord01 to 20)
Replaces ALL Female Nord/Imperial/Breton Female hairstyles (FImp01, FNord01 to 21)
Replaces ALL Elder Male/Female hairs. Bald hairstyles now have more hair by default.
    Replaces ALL Dremora Hairstyle...

  • VHR Facegen Generation Tutorial (Manual)

THIS METHOD IS NOW DEPRECATED. I HIGHLY SUGGEST USING FACE DISCOLORATION FIX AND EASYNPC TO SOLVE ALL YOUR FACEGEN ISSUES WITH NPCS.

    VHR FACEGEN GENERATION TUTORIAL (MANUAL)

Here's a generic guide to making your own facegen for VHR.  This guide is for those who like to make facegen manually without using a mod manager. Firstly, you'll need to install these:

  • VHR SSEedit Patching Patch-less Tutorial

THIS METHOD IS NOW DEPRECATED. I HIGHLY SUGGEST USING FACE DISCOLORATION FIX AND EASYNPC TO SOLVE ALL YOUR FACEGEN ISSUES WITH NPCS.

This tutorial and idea was conceived by talking with neuroliquidity who asked for an easier way to patch NPCs and avoid downloading hundreds of patches. I did some research into creating an xedit script or even creating a skyproc patch for java, but realized that regardless of what methods I used, there would be no way that I know of to create a blacklist of custom-haired NPC replacers like Bijin without having them getting overwritten by VHR heads and causing issues, so this was the simplest solution I could think up to come close to automating NPC facegen for VHR. Be aware that some NPC overhauls will still need a patch from this site regardless...

  • Editing and Removing Specific Hairstyles

Q: How do I change a hairstyle back to vanilla (or potentially a hairstyle from another vanilla hair replacer)?

A: You will need SSEedit, which you should have anyway.

    1. Open the VHR esp file up in SSEedit
    2. Click the + symbol in the left pane window so that the records appear, and in the Headparts section, delete any and all records with the name of the hair you want removed. For example, if you want to remove General Tullius' new hair (MaleHairImperial01), just look for all hair records titled 'imperial' and remove the records from the esp so they can be reverted to vanilla. If you want to remove MaleHairNord02, etc, rinse and repeat the same steps.
