Skyrim Special Edition

How does this mod work exactly?

This mod works in the same way that Shiva's Hair Replacer does, by replacing the vanilla hairstyle mesh paths with custom ones linked to chosen mesh replacements. The game engine currently limits actual mesh replacement of hairs like other mesh replacers - an esp editing the filepaths is necessary to make this mod work. This is the only workaround currently that can actually replace the vanilla hairs in the game.

Which hairs are edited?

  • Replaces ALL Nord/Imperial/Breton male hairstyles (Mimp01, Mnord01 to 20)
  • Replaces ALL Female Nord/Imperial/Breton Female hairstyles (FImp01, FNord01 to 21)
  • Replaces ALL Elder Male/Female hairs. Bald hairstyles now have more hair by default.
  • Replaces ALL Dremora Hairstyles, of which there are only two
  • Replaces ALL Snow Elf Hairstyles

Does this mod edit faces at all?

No. The only thing this mod does is replace vanilla hairstyles, and only makes patches to update any facegen with replacing the vanilla hair. The facegen of all mods should be intact. The purpose of this mod is to only replace some vanilla hairstyles.

Does this mod cause my player character and NPCs to be bald under helmets??

Yes, and this is the same caveat that exists with other vanilla hair replacers like Shiva's mod. I recommend using Helm Hair or Invisible Headgears or a similar mod to avoid this issue.

I have uninstalled the mod mid-playthrough and everyone still has the hair but it's purple now.

This is due to loose assets of hairs still being loaded somewhere in your load order. If you have NMM, this is incredibly likely, and you will need to delete the leftover files in your main SSE folder. You might also have a leftover BSA patch still installed in your load order and forgot to remove it. However, this is ultimately a symptom of bad modding practices and I would highly recommend to never uninstall anything on mid-playthrough - I would instead suggest you test your game on your own before you decide to save this mod in your game mid-save.

Some hairs have space between head, braids are slightly separate from head/male hairs are clipping, I'm zooming in to see all these!

With Vanilla hairs, this issue still persists. You can also see this with all custom hair mods as well, because these are the same meshes. it's incredibly hard to get models to line up exactly, even when everything is aligned to the same skeleton. If you're anal-retentive enough to see these issues and be bothered by them, I suggest playing a more modern game that is better at hiding these issues. There are also mods that edit or change the current skeleton, and may cause strange issues - I'd advise testing if it matters that much to you.

Your mod is too much effort ...

Then don't use it. It's that simple! :P
