I have a slight issue with objects moving slightly when I lock them, so I have to readjust it multiple times not sure if this is a common problem or not and if anyone has a solution I work around the problem but it is a bit annoying
That's a game bug related to specific items. Items you can pick up from the game world then drop somewhere else somehow have a "memory" about the position offset they had in their original spot.
Yes there's a great deal of overlap between what Jaxonz Position does and this mod, but all of the Jaxonz Positioner ports for Skyrim SE are flawed because they can't use the special DLL functions that came with the original version. The original Jaxonz Positioner implemented the item positioning portion of my old Storage Helpers mod and then added some additional improvements mostly powered by that DLL that Jazonz created. And there are still some things that even the ports of that mod can do that this one can't. This mod is a complete re-implementation of those same ideas without requiring SKSE (since it didn't even exist for Skyrim SE when I made this) so it has some limitations but it can also do a few things that the Positioner can't.
This mod can move mannequins, display cases, weapon plaques, and even display racks, but not book cases. But you can't copy them or move them to a new cell. All of those things are really collections of things and not a single object with the parts linked together in ways that can't be changed or set from a script so they have to be created in the Creation Kit. But I added special code to allow moving all of the pieces as long as they are set up in the standard way (but there may be a few mods that didn't set them up quite right).
I can't figure out how to pull up the menu. I activate the power, press z to select an option, then cast the spell with my right hand, but no menu comes up. I have to press z again to deselect the item. Left hand also doesn't bring up any menus. I also don't see any orange cubes?
If you have SKSE installed and you're targeting an item that can be picked up (or otherwise interacted with like chairs) the cube selector isn't needed so you go straight into the moving the item mode. The cube selector is only needed for picking static objects or if you don't have SKSE.
You only get a menu (and have virtually unlimited options for moving the object) if you are sneaking. I find that for simple placement I don't want a menu and want positions to be somewhat limited (i.e. no moving items below the floor). When sneaking you move slower which makes it easier to do more precise positioning so that seemed the natural way to implement the "advanced" mode which includes the menu.
First of all, cdcooley, thank you so much for your work on this mod. It appears to be exactly what I have been looking for.
I'm playing Skyrim VR for the very first time and have installed the latest MGO modlist. I'm out in the world trying to move some static items around my player homes ... trees, wagons, barrels, etc. Everything seems to work perfectly per the instructions ... I can select items (in crouch) and move them. Then I select 'Done' when I'm finished. I will save my game, quit to desktop, relaunch the game and load the save I'd just been working on ... and frustratingly, everything is back to where it was before I moved anything.
Like I said, it appears that I'm doing everything per the instructions ... so what can I try? What might I be doing wrong?
Another advantage of this mod over others that move objects is that it works pretty well in VR but I was wondering if there is a way to move items vertically up and down in VR? I can manipulate items in every other way but can’t find how to move them vertically, if it is not known because of lack of VR how is this done in the flat version Skyrim? Maybe I can figure it out from there
It's checking changes to the player's viewing angle (in the X dimension) which corresponds to the player looking up and down when using the mouse. So basically, while the move spell is being used, you just look up or down and the item moves to match. There's also a limit where items won't go lower than the player unless you're sneaking. If looking up and down in VR doesn't change the player's X angle ("player.getangle x" in the console) then that's why you aren't seeing changes in the item's height.
This is really rad, and works great in VR. Unfortunately, Sweeping Organizes Stuff undoes just about anything that you don't have to use sneak to reposition, like plates, sweetrolls, clothes, books. But sweeping organizes stuff doesn't touch beds, dressers, shelves, etc. A dilemma to be sure. I wish I didn't have to choose between mods. Testing some more to see if selecting exclude will make it so SOS doesn't undo your hard decorating work. Ultimately, if you lock something in place with this mod, it shouldn't fly anywhere, but locking every single item could be tedious.
No, for the original version of Skyrim/Legendary edition I created Storage Helpers using SKSE. When Special Edition came out (and before SKSE64 was available) I recreated what I considered the most important (and possible at the time) parts of Storage Helpers as a set of SE mods. This is one of those. The others are: Portable Containers, Basic Camp Gear, and Better Container Controls. When SKSE64 became available I enhanced some of these slightly with optional SKSE64 features and created Better Container Controls for SkyUI, but never did a full port of the old Storage Helpers.
Doesn't seem to be working. I have the spell, it equips ok, i can cast the spell and either the cube appears or the object that i am looking at gets selected (ok so far) but when i use the spell again to bring up the movement menu, the object deselects and the menu doesnt appear. Any ideas on what may cause this . Skyrim SE 1170.
There's no movement menu, and you'll only get a menu if you are sneaking. Normally you use the power and either the item you are looking at is automatically selected or you get the selection cube. If you get the cube you cast the spell in your right hand to be able to move the cube near the item you want to move then use the power again to switch control to the item. When the item is selected you use the spell in your right hand to move it, spell in your left hand to turn it, or both spells at the same time to change the size. Using the power one last time completes the process, but if you're sneaking you'll get a menu with some extra options.
FYI This mod certainly has some shortcomings, but it is a wonderful mod if you know how to use it.
If you drop and item from your inventory and place it, it will drop down, and continue to do so every time you enter the cell.
To work around that....
1 : Drop the item and crouch 2 : Open console ( ~ ) 3 : Select that item 4 : Type ---> player.placeatme base-id 1 <--- you can ignore the ZEROs to the left. 5 : Select newly placed item 5a : Type ---> setangle x 0 (item always spawns on some weird X angle (can be adjusted with the DecoHelper, but it's easier to start with xyz of zero 5b : You can also use -> setscale x <--- x of 1 is 100% .99 is slightly smaller. 1.01 is slightly larger. 6 : Close console ( ~ ) 7: Open "Decorator Helper" 8 : Move/orient Item 9 : Lock Item
It seems like a lot of steps, but really, they are everything verbatim that needs doing. A lot of it is muscle memory
MAKE SURE YOU ARE CROUCHED OR YOU WILL NOT GET THE MENU TO LOCK THE ITEM if the lock menu doesn't show up when crouched, the item doesn't need to be locked.
The newly placed item will not drop or move. it will remain where you place it.
All of these type of mods have issues. This one never fails if i follow these steps.
i seriously just wanna thank you so much for this information. i have been trying to figuire this mod out forever and you have given me the best instructions on how to use it to get things to stop dropping. thank you so so so so so much. this mod is great, i was just getting tired of things always dropping
Items you drop aren't properly attached to the cell until you leave the location and come back later. So if you're decorating your home, just drop the items and leave, then when you come back later put them where you want them to stay. If I'm in a hurry I just drop the items, go outside, type "PCB" in the console, then go back in and place everything. In the rare cases where some particular item won't stay in place, replacing it as described above is the only real fix though.

The only question is...will we be able to move and copy Mannequins and weapon plaques?

Maybe this should be locked
