It looks like this is still in development, but does anyone know if maybe a usable version has been posted anywhere, like on a Discord or something? Or do we need to just keep checking the GitHub page? I'm so excited for this mod.
Hey folks. I'll try to keep this brief. First of all thank you to everyone for playing my mod and providing your feedback over these years.
The Bad I'm no longer working on Hunting in Skyrim (but keep reading, there's good news!). I started this mod in 2012 so you can imagine a lot has changed in the last 8 years. As it relates to modding, since starting my own side business I've become a much better programmer. With the scale of work needed to actually make a working hunting guild, plus the 8 years of mostly dodgy code buried in the mod, I feel it's time to hang up the hat. As of version 2.0Beta1.8, any remaining bugs can be considered mod features. Thanks to everyone for the support on this journey. How time flies ey?
The Good I've started a new project, based on the features in Hunting in Skyrim. I'm very proud of the things I managed to accomplish in my mod, considering I started with zero knowledge of coding or the Creation Kit. I started this project last summer as a little exercise and rediscovered how much I actually enjoy modding. Because of that I decided to work towards completing it and releasing it publicly. It's not finished yet though!
So What's Next? I'm starting off from what worked in Hunting in Skyrim (fishing, trapping, cool hunting abilities and challenges) but rebuilding and rewriting everything from scratch, using everything I've learned so far. There's no guild this time, just a set of cool and fun features. Designed primarily to give the player more things to do, as well as give them a deeper sense of place in the world. The mod will be available for both classic and special edition Skyrim, as well as releasing on Xbox One. It will also be released feature complete, not in beta/testing form as with Hunting in Skyrim, with the goal of creating a solid, quality experience, with room for me to expand in the future if I want to.
My new project is called Wildlander, and will release this summer (2020).
Well with everyone on "lockdown", we hope you find the time to complete this much anticipated final project!! Will you combine fishing into this as well and make it one outdoors mod kind of thing??
I cannot tell how much i am hyped for this! Great news! I also have some requests/ideas (if not already mentioned):
*skinning/fishing animations (first and foremost the fishing animations - maybe there is also a chance to create a small minigame like in RDR2?) * facegen data / patches for hair replacers if you should add new npcs (maybe in cooperation with the mod autors?) * MCM, so you can create shortcuts for the most important things (for example for preparing the fishing rods)
Like already said, just a few ideas (I am a big fan and absolutely love your work. Just can't wait for it :D).
Recently moved to SSE from Oldrim and wanted an alternative fishing mod to the one I was using. This eventually lead me here. I was really glad to have found this as, although I LOVE Hunterborn on Oldrim, the SSE version is lacking - mostly to do with having no MCM menu (personal preference I guess.) Watched the two videos on skinning and baiting and said, "I must have this" until I read that you were no longer working on it. Reading on and learning about Wildlander has given me something to look forward to! I love Skyrim but I find I spend a lot of my time wandering the land, hunting etc so this will be nothing but good for me. Wishing you the best of luck with your new mod and excited to see it.
Used this in oldrim and loved it. Got away from playing Skyrim mainly because I was tired of looking at computer screens all day at work and the again at home. Came back recently, but shifted to SE. Been slowly building my mod list back up.
I really like the trapping piece. The fishing piece is OK, but that mainly is because I hate fishing in real life. One thing I didn't like with the oldrim version was the hunting guild. Just never really wanted to use it. Awesome you've decided to create a new version of this without the guild.
Hey ! Wonderful but what about a mod just adding the skinning feature ? I'm quite sure you would end up in the most trending mods in just a few hours :)
As I'm sure everyone is aware things are a mess at the moment, and I'm now going to be facing some financial difficulty. I won't have time to put any effort into fun hobby projects for a while, so Wildlander will have to wait. I'm sorry for disappointing everyone, when I posted my update in February I had the best intentions.
So excited to hear about this new project! Take your time and do what you need to do to stay happy and healthy, we're all in the same boat here and understand the difficulties. Hopefully the world will sort itself out and give us some time for hobbies again soon :)
Good luck and best wishes, I love what Hunting in Skyrim did for my playthroughs and if Wildlander keeps the skinning, trapping and fishing systems it'll be a 100% staple alongside Hunterborn.
Hey Rich, not here to put handprints on your back, but to say I've loved this mod for a long time and am still really excited to try Wildlander someday. I'm glad you're taking your time to work on it at a sustainable pace with the cRaZy in the world rn so it comes out as good a mod as it can be. Keep truckin', we're all excited about what you're doing. :)
Newly released for Skyrim Special Edition, Hunting in Skyrim is currently in beta. As it is in beta please be weary of possible bugs and the fact that it is being actively developed.
The mod has been overhauled from the previous Skyrim version, most notably the quests will be completely new (but not currently available) and the location of the Hunters Guild is now in Falkreath Hold. A map marker will show up automatically with the location, look for Bearclaw Lodge in the north west area of Falkreath Hold.
Please feel free to comment, report bugs, and share your experiences. I look forward to you getting involved in the mod's development.
Several of my standalone mods have been built into Hunting in Skyrim with extra features:
The Hunting in Skyrim website is largely out of date due to the new updates, so use the information from this mod description page.
Happy hunting!
Current Version: 2.0 Beta 1.8
Last changelog (19th June 2018):
New guild location - Amberleaf Den, located near Riften (map marker automatically added).
New Ability/Feature: Arrow Crafting (Fletching) - A new Wildlander skill ability to craft arrows using a Portable Arrow Crafting Kit or at a Forge. Portable Arrow Crafting Kits deplete after so many uses.
New Ability/Feature: Field Alchemy - A new Wildlander skill ability for using Mortar & Pestles. Potions brewed in the wild are weaker by default, this ability improves them. Mortar & Pestles come in 4 qualities, each lasting longer.
New Ability/Feature: Bait Mixing - A new Trapping skill ability for creating animal baits using a Mortar & Pestle. Mixed baits give a higher chance the trap will be successful. 3 bait qualities.
New Feature: Fishing - Use the new Fishing Rod item crafted at a Forge or found in the wild to do some fishing. Video link.
5 new named NPC Guild Members found at Amberleaf Den. Trainers and merchants.
New animal: Pheasant. Now available through trapping.
It's not required but I recommend using a new clean save. Lots of old obsolete content removed. You may notice Papyrus script errors referencing objects not found if you continue with a save. These can be safely ignored as everything is working normally and remains 100% functional.
How do you start? Using the "shout" key, cast your Path of the Woodsman power (look in your Powers magic menu) to enable this mod's features. Once enabled you can cast the power again to view your stats, skills, and change the mod options.
Are there any quests? No quests yet. You can start the first set of hunting challenges though. When the mod's features are enabled, when you kill a fox the challenges will begin.
Does this work with Hunterborn? Yes. When Hunting in Skyrim's features are enabled you can select the mod option to turn off my skinning system. As an added bonus, in the MCM menu for Hunterborn you can enable my skinned animal textures when you skin an animal with Hunterborn. If you use the following mod/patch, Hunterborn will automatically take over the skinning from this mod and even supports my skinning skill system.
Is this mod compatible with... Try it out and see. Should be compatible with mods like Frostfall, RnD, any perk/skill changing mods.
Why focus on hunting mechanics when promising competitors appeared in this regard already in 2022? You had a wonderful hunter name, with a quest line and new social features, and you decided to cut it out!The legendary animals were also good. It really hurts me that you abandoned a good project for something that you didn’t even leave a description of anywhere. Your website is closed, and there is zero information on github. At least start a discord and get feedback from your fans.
For anyone else trying a no-health-regen modlist or settings: This mod adds a healthregen of ~+1hp/sec.
Posting this to make it searchable for other people who pull their hair out what's wrong with their settings. There's allready a Bug-Report on this site here.
Love the mod otherwise, but until that's fixed, i can't run it sadly
With the new Edler Scrolls V Skyrim Anniversary Edition this needs a landscape patch really bad like for the AE or anniversary Edition it makes the landscape at Goldenhills plantation look very odd with like clear holes in the landscape at Goldenhills plantation farm from Creation Club. I'm not knocking the mod at all and it does have a nice touch with the Hunterborn mods. just needs to be look at and find why it create a landscape problem with mods from the Creation club mods> Just from a gamer, sign Guntherwood.

Just an FYI would be good - as this was a great mod and a lot of us would like some sort of update.
I did go to GETHUB and everything is 2 years old.
Thanks - a BIG FAN!!
