I don't currently have to time to update the whole mode at once and probably won't for a little while. In the meantime  I'll do piecemeal update for the sake of time and modularity.

Update 1.6

  • Standalone Better AO (less dithering) mod for the latest MW5 version

-Sun lit cockpit with shadows
-Stronger atmospheric haze
-Stronger weather effect
-Volumetric fog (interact with light sources and create god rays)
-Better close range shadows and moving shadows for trees
-Better Ambient occlusion (less dithering)
-Variable night darkness based on biomes, cloud coverage and auroras
-Exposition based grain to simulate low light vision
-Dirt mask
-Motion blur, object & camera based (optional)

There is no longer one main file, you have to download the part of the mod that you are interested in.

Depending on your taste/PC you may want to tweek the following settings.

To reduce the dithering (at the cost of shadow quality as seen in the screenshot):
r.ContactShadows = 0

To disable the motion blur effect add :

If you have performance issue you can revert the AO and shadows quality back to vanilla with :
r.AmbientOcclusionLevels=1 (1 being equal to the low effects quality settings)

If you don't like the ghosting caused by the TAA you can reduce it at the cost a pixel jitter and aliasing. It will look better in motion (especially moving vegetation) but worse in static scene with lot of secular (menu, leopard). Add :
r.TemporalAACurrentFrameWeight = 0.2
r.TemporalAASamples = 4

Install Instructions:
1. Download the file of your choice
2. Unzip the file and place the entire folder in the Mods directory (default is C:\Program Files\Epic Games\MW5Mercs\MW5Mercs\Mods)
3. Launch the game and click Mods in the main menu.
4. Check the mod to enable it and hit Apply.

Compatibiles and conflicts:
 -Navid A1's 3D HUD will be overly glowy at night. You can fix this by reducing the alpha of the HUD in the option.
 The dirt mask is excessively strong in the advanced zoom.
 The 3D Hud will affect the god rays

-This mod isn't compatible with the Weather Improvement mod since they both do similar thing.
