The original website for the first Mass Effect contained a wealth of background material, including full dossiers on Wrex, Saren, Nihlus, and a particularly lengthy one on Ashley. It also contained additional facts about the Mako, more details about how humanity discovered the mass relays and built Arcturus Station, and other worldbuilding. The website is long gone, accessible only through the Wayback Machine, and these details were never preserved in-game -- until now.
ME1 Dossiers Restored re-adds all this worldbuilding to the in-game Codex, given to the player via email to keep everything immersive. All major details from ME1's website have been added as their own Codex entries, and the mod also restores a number of cut entries to boot -- including one describing who exactly Matriarch Dilinaga is (the woman whose writings you collect as part of UNC: Asari Writings) and why her philosophy is so important, context that was noticeably absent from the game and not fixed in Legendary Edition.
So as not to overwhelm you with information, the emails will be spaced out like so:
- Ashley and Nihlus' dossiers will be sent to you as soon as you take command of the Normandy
- Saren's dossier will be sent to you after completing your first plot planet (Therum, Feros, or Noveria)
- Wrex's dossier will be sent to you after completing your first plot planet if you recruited him
- Liara will send you info about Matriarch Dilinaga after you've collected at least one of her writings and you've spoken to Liara at least once (or just left Therum without talking to her)
- Several smaller entries will be sent to you after completing two plot planets by Alliance Command as part of a version update for the Codex
The only entry not restored is the one about Harvesters, as it's unclear if that info is still canon (it was mostly a nothingburger, anyway). How I determined which cut Codex entries to restore was by checking the N7HQ website (it's the ME3 multiplayer site; somehow, it's still up). Many articles cut from ME1 are present there (the Foundations, trans-relay assaults, Javelin missiles, etc.), which would seem to indicate they're considered part of the world, but the Harvester entry was noticeably absent.
This mod requires installing Private Message Terminal first.

Can I translate this mod into another language?
Absolutely! I'll gladly add translations to the mod. A few notes are below.
Translation Notes:
- Please leave an empty line with just a space at the end of all the emails; this is to prevent a small graphical error when viewing the emails while using a controller. You'll need to do this in the raw XML; the TLK Editor won't let you do it.
- Edward Crabb, the guy who sends Ashley's dossier, is a canon character, albeit a very obscure one. If you need to check what his name was translated as in your language, the email mentioning him is string 724250 in BIOGame_[your language code].tlk of LE3.
