About this mod
Segments the health bar, and introduces healing thresholds for a more resource based healing system.

The core goal of this mod is to reinforce the resource usage gameplay loop instead of the respawn one. We do this by increasing player max health, so that combat and healing is more a war of attrition, where you are slowly worn down over time instead of constantly dying and respawning. Horizon players should be familiar with this idea. At the same time, it also introduces caps on the max health you can get back from food, to reintroduce the tense feeling combat has with a more limited health pool, and introduce an element of choice around when to use a stimpak, and when to risk a fight at less than full health. It does all this without introducing any new items, or complex new systems.
This mod does the following
- Buffs player health by 100
- The players health is now divided into 3 sections (UI segmentation requires setting up FallUI HUD). Food now only heals you to the top of a section. In order to get lost sections back, you will need to either use a Stimpak or a blood pack, or see a doctor.
- Stimpaks weigh 0.5, and heal 30% over 5 seconds, and are worth 75 caps. They heal quickly (even in survival), and restore a missing segment
- Blood packs are now "Medpaks" , weigh 0.5, and heal 50 hp over 5 seconds (50 seconds in survival), and restore a missing segment
- Glowing Blood packs are now "Glowing Medpaks", weight .5, and heal 100 hp, and restore 2 missing segments, but also give 250 radiation
- The medic perk has been reworked, it now increases stimpak and blood pack healing while the player has less that 50% health, and allows stimpaks to restore more than one missing segment
- Sleeping, and Levelling will only heal to the top of the current health segment (actually it heals to full, then drains down, but the end result is the same).
How to Use
Download and install the main file (older versions of the mod had a patcher, but that is no longer required).
How to setup FallUI HUD to show health bar slices
The mod does not include any UI changes, in order to get those you need to install FallUI HUD, and either download and install the LitR Hud from the downloads sections here, or modify your own in the MCM for FallUI edit layout -> click on health bar -> advanced options -> 3 slices, with 95% width.
Compatibility
- Load this after mods that edit the stimpack record, the medic perk. or doctor dialogue.
- Mods that add new medical items will need patches if they don't use the vanilla stimpak effect.
- UFO4P edits to the DialogueGenericDoctor script are included in the modified script.
- Mods that heavily increase universal damage modifiers can cause an issue where the damage effect this mod uses to keep the player under the threshold can end up killing the player. If you experience this, then you need to reduce the strength of the damage effect this mod uses in FO4edit to be compatible with your chosen damage level.
While not required, I highly recommend a death alternative mod. The one I use is Knockout Framework, but anything that makes player death not just respawning fits the general goals of this mod.
How it works under the hood...
This mod adds a perk to the player that sets a healing cap of 33% or 66%, health when the players health drops below those thresholds. If the player tries to heal over the cap (e.g. eats food, or has their health filled by levelling up or sleeping), a spell damages their health, until they're back under the threshold. Using a stimpak or blood pack increses the healing cap by a step (25% -> 50% -> 100%), or by multiple steps with medic ranks 2 and 4. Seeing a doctor sets the healing cap to 100%.
