About this mod

This mod simplifies the in-game economy by giving you only a few viable and overhauled consumables and marking everything else as sell-able trash. It also adds new crafting recipes to buy viable consumables from the respective crafting station.

Permissions and credits
Fallout 4 throws a lot of stuff at you. Junk, MISC, Consumables. Unfortunately a lot of this stuff is just useless or only useful in one particular situation. This took (at least for me) a lot of fun out of the looting. Too many stuff I can pick up but never use.
To fix this issue my idea was to simplify the in-game economy. Keep a few useful items and mark the rest as sell-able trash. The result is this mod, that I want to share for people who feel the same way like I do.

Changes:
  • Consumables now have prefixes like (Chem), (Trash), etc. This shows their use. If something is (Trash) just sell it for better stuff. Additional mods like DEF_UI will make icons out of these prefixes.
  • The few useful consumables are now really useful. I made them stronger and gave them new effects. Examples:
  • Nuka-Cherry now heals 1% of your maximum HP every second. Even during fights. Percentage-based healing is something that I always missed in Fallout 4. (Except for Stimpaks.)
  • Mentats will highlight enemies (Targeting HUD effect from Power Armor) and when you aim at an enemy they are marked with a red diamond (Recon Scope effect).
  • Nuka-Quantum increases your movement and reload speed by 100%. Be aware, some obstacles deal damage when you crush into them at that speed. (Try out the car at the bridge in Sanctuary.)
  • And more. The Nuka Edition of this mod is a rework of all Nuka Colas. You will find a lot of them handy. Like Nuka-Lixier which is now a
Refreshing Beverage on steroids. For all the people out there who want to be a good and a healthy person: Nuka-Lixier now heals the Mole Rat disease. ;)
  • Other items have the prefix (Trash) and have the only purpose to be sold for caps. I added a few other items to the (Trash)-club. Burned books and magazines were always out there just to waste your precious carry weight. Now they can be sold... for almost nothing... but they are not useless anymore.
  • I added new crafting recipes for all the viable consumables. They are really new and in the respective S_f_C categories. I did not change or touch vanilla recipes, so you can still use the old ones. Additionally to crafting all those items can be bought. It is essentially crafting but with bottle caps. You can find the S_f_C categories in the Chemistry station, Cooking station and the Nuka-mixer station.
With all these changes you may think this makes the game easier. Yes, hence the name "Simplified for Casuals". In case you found Fallout 4 easy enough (which it is) you may want to use some difficulty or enemy overhaul mods. (I do, too.)

*Updates*

15.08.2022  Update 1.2:Ammunition & Explosives
Added a new Optional File "Ammunition and Explosives" with following features:
  • added 2 new Crafting Categories to the Chemistry Station: "SfC Ammunition", "SfC Explosives"
  • within this categories are Recipes for buying (crafting for bottle caps) Ammunition and Explosives
Fixed a small bug in Nuka Edition.

29.05.2022  Update 1.1.1:Quickfix for Nuka Edition
  • removed Oil from the ingredients for Nuka Cola

27.05.2022  Update 1.1: Grow your own food
With this update the aim is to simplify food & drink crafting further. It shall allow the player to craft food & drinks earlier. (Especially useful in survival mode.)

  • Added new category to Chemistry station "(Raw) S_f_C Cultivate Plants" with 8 new recipes which allow the cultivation of wild plants to settlement plants.
    E.g.: 3 Wild mutfruits  =craft=>  1 Mutfruit
  • Rework of food & drink crafting recipes. They require now less looting and use more settlement-grown ingredients.
  • Most food & drink items require less ingredients overall.
  • Added recipes with Purified water for food & drink that originally required solely dirty water. Now the player has the choice whether to craft with dirty or purified water.
(With settlements the player will soon have more purified water than dirty water, which would hinder the crafting.)

Installation:
If you don't know how to install Fallout 4 Mods, then you best use the Nexus Mod Manager Vortex.
Main Files:
  • Base Edition - requires only Fallout 4, no DLCs. Contains my overhaul of consumables with prefixes and crafting recipes.
  • Nuka Edition - requires Fallout 4, Nuka-World DLC and Far Harbor DLC. Contains my overhaul of consumables with prefixes and crafting recipes. This is the version I recommend, if you have the required DLCs.
Optional Files:
  • Mini Edition - requires only Fallout 4, no DLCs. Use this instead of one of the main files. Contains only my overhaul of the viable consumables with crafting recipes. No prefixes or other additional stuff, in case you want consumables with strong effects but nothing else. If you are unsure whether to use my mod or not, you can try this as a demo.
  • Resources - requires only Fallout 4, no DLCs. This file can be used additionally to a main file or stand-alone. It adds a new category to the Chemistry station under which you find recipes to buy basic crafting materials like acid, nuclear material, steel and so on.
  • Ammunition and Explosives - requires Fallout 4, Nuka-World DLC and Far Harbor DLC. This file can be used additionally to a main file or stand-alone. It adds two new categories to the Chemistry station under which you find recipes to buy ammunition, grenades and mines.
  • Weightless Ammunition and Junk - requires Fallout 4 and ALL DLCs. This file can be used additionally to a main file or stand-alone. It sets the weight of Ammunition and Junk items to 0. It adds prefixes for sorting to Ammunition and Junk items. Can be used with other sorting mods, but needs to be loaded after other sorting mods.

Compatibility:
This mod applies mainly changes to the consumables and uses some effects (called Magic Effects in the Creation Engine) from the vanilla game. Everything else is added based on the vanilla game.
In other words, if you use a mod that changes consumables or in-game effects like the Recon Scope effect, then there will be a mod conflict. Everything else should be fine.
If you use a sorting mod, there is no problem. The prefixes from this mod should blend in with your sorting mod. You just have to make sure to use the right load order: First your sorting mod, then Simplified for Casuals.

Recommended other Mods:
I recommend to use Simplified for Casuals together with Rich Merchants. Otherwise you have too much stuff to sell and no one willing to buy.
