    • [ 08 nov 2023 ] - UPDATE: Version 1.4.4 available. (See changelogs on the main page for details)
In this release, the ARRI LOG-C3 tone mapper and the agX color space are set by default. This results in a more vivid look with better color reproduction. With more detail in the bright areas of the image. If you do not like this look, play with the tone mapper settings (Luma/Chroma) in enb editor in the ENBEFFECT.FX window. Or select a different tone mapper and/or color space. To restore the legacy look of version 1.4.3, select tone mapper [1] UNCHARTED II and color space [2] ACES in the Setup.ini file.

    • [ 18 june 2022 ] - UPDATE: Version 1.3.3 available. Okay folks, this update is a bit experimental. With a little headache, I still decided to add the Vanilla Auto Exposure (VAE) feature as I call it, to the enbeffect.fx. This feature also still uses the two previously unused Image Space Constants to control the adaptation using lighting and weather mod parameters. The biggest advantage of this is that Adaptation no longer needs to be adjusted (I hate that). It also provides more mod compatibility, I think. If someone still wants to adjust the global brightness, they should use "TM: Pre Exposure" in enbeffect.fx under TONE MAPPING to do so. (See changelogs on the main page for details)

TIP: Before you open the ENB menu you should call the console to pause the game.
TIP: After you have made settings, do not forget to save these with ---SAVE CONFIGURATION---.

    KEY MAPPING

    • END = open/close ENB menu
    • SCROLL LOCK = turn ENB on/off
    • HOME = switch FPS limitation on/off
    • NUM * = show/hide FPS counter
    • F12 = create a screenshot as a JPG file in your [Fallout 4] folder.
    • F7 = turn Depth of Field on/off

Q: I have / want black bars at the top and bottom of the screen?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: Open the ENB menu, go to enbeffectpostpass.fx in the shader window and disable / enable Letterbox.
You can also turn on / off other post-processing effects such as grain, vignette and CA, etc.

Q: My image is too dark / bright at interiors / exteriors / night etc...?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: Open the ENB menu, go to enbeffect.fx in the shader window and increase / decrease the values of TM: Exposure Bias (Day, Night, Interior).

Q: What is that dirt or reflection like effect on my screen.
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: That would be the lens effect. Open the ENB menu, go to enblens.fx in the shader window and increase / decrease the values of Reflection: Intensity (Day, Night, Interior).

    OR:

Open the ENB menu, go to EFFECT in the enbseries.ini window and disable EnableLens.

Q: What is that colored tint to my screen?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: That's the LUT. It's like an instagram filter. Open the ENB menu, go to enbeffectpostpass.fx in the shader window. Under LOOK UP TABLE you can customize the filter to your preferences.

Q: I want to use additional LUT files?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: No problem. Copy up to 8 custom LUT files to the [Fallout 4]\enbseries\CustomLUTs folder. Open the file _CustomLUTs.fxh with a text editor and enter the filenames of your LUT files. How to do this is explained in the file. Then open the file [Fallout 4] \enbseries\Setup.ini also with a text editor and activate the option E_CUSTOM_LUTS.

Q: The Depth of Field is too strong / too weak?

    Spoiler:
    Show

A: Open the ENB menu, go to enbdepthoffield.fx in the shader window and increase / decrease the values of Far blur curve (Day, Night, Interior) and Near blur curve.

Q: How can I disable the raindrop on camera lens effect?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: Open the ENB menu, go to enbdepthoffield.fx in the shader window and change the Technique from REACTOR DOF + RAIN to REACTOR DOF.

Q: How can I disable adaptation without making the image look too dark?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: First you have to set the ADAPTATION mode in the Setup.ini file from 3 = VANILLA AUTO EXPOSURE to 1 = ENB. Then open the ENB menu, go to enbadaptation.fx in the shader window and use Manual Overwrite. This allows you to set a fixed brightness level.

Q: My underwater is entirely clear?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: At my request Boris implemented a feature in ENB v0.489 ( MUCH THANKS! ) that allows to disable the Game DOF, leaving the Blur Shader used by underwater effect active. The option is called "DisableGameDepthOfField" and can be found in the ENB menu. Since the ENB PATCH of NAC.X disables the complete Game DOF, it should not be used anymore. Therefore the deactivated effects have to be deactivated manually. Among other things, this has the advantage of not using the Institute patch, which is not needed for REACTOR because it causes the brightness in the Institute to be too dark. And the best part is, the underwater is finally not completely clear.

    Here are the steps:

    • Make sure that the option DisableGameDepthOfFiled in the ENB menu is enabled.
    • Open the menu of NAC.X and make sure that the Patch for ENB is disabled.
    • In the same menu, under CAMERA SETTINGS disable the NOISE, VIGNETTE and Lens Distortion effects. Leave DEPTH OF FIELD at the default settings.
    That's it.

INFO: Before you do the three steps, I would recommend to reset NAC.X in the menu once completely. After that, make sure to disable Interior Override and Fake Interior Darkening.

    Q: Plugin load order?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: Place these plugins at the bottom of your list in that order:

    • NAC.esp
    • NAC-NW.esp
    • NAC-FH.esp
    • SunLightAlignment.esp
    • TerrainUndersides.esp
    • ENBLightsHDRPatch.esp
    • UltraInteriorLighting.esp
    • EnhancedLightsandFX.esp
    • ELFX_ENBLight_Patch.esp
    • AnimatedCandles.esp
    • wet.esp
    • Vivid Waters.esp

Q: I have black dots on human skin?
    Spoiler:
    Show

    A: Set bBlurEnable=1 in Fallout4Prefs.ini under NVHBAO.

Q: Any plan to add a patch for vivid weathers please?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: Not from my side but I can recommend you the modding guide MOFAM from my friend Masterlix. He offers on the modpage ini files to run REACTOR ENB with VIVID WEATHERS, ULTRA INTERIOR LIGHTING, ENB LIGHTS OVERHAUL and CLARITY - A VISUAL OVERHAUL. In the guide under PART 14 you can find information about the installation of the mods and under PART 50 about the ini files of REACTOR ENB.

The hardcore modders among you will surely manage to work through the whole guide. And even if you just want to spice up your game with cool mods, you're in good hands here. Sorry for the promotional text but this man deserves it! Be so kind and give him support with kudos and endorsements ;) For more support, join his Discord server.

Q: Why the night vision does not work?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: If even with a correctly installed patch, night vision does not work as expected, it is probably because you have a specific NAC.X preset enabled.

Q: Very strong image noise occurs in some situations. Disabling Film Grain in enbpostpass.fx is unfortunately ineffective?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: This effect is not generated by REACTOR. Its Film Grain is very subtle and only perceptible in very dark image areas. The very harsh and unattractive noise is generated by NAC.X. To disable it, navigate in the NAC.X menu on the Pip-Boy to NAC SETTINGS -> NAC OPTIONS -> Disable RadiationFX.

Q: I have an RTX GPU and frequently CTD?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: Fallout 4 (not ENB) has an issue with Weapon Debris effect on NVIDIA RTX GPU's. Install this MOD and you should be fine. It is a lifesaver. Thanks to Antonix35!!!

Q: I have a strange “glitter effect” around light sources?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: It is caused by the ENB-SSAO and partly also by subsurface scattering in conjunction with reflective material.  However, this is not related to REACTOR. If it bothers you a lot, you can deactivate "SelfIntersecting" under SSAO. It won't disappear completely, but it will be a little more bearable. In my opinion, disabling SSAO completely is not an option. The ENB author has confirmed that this bug cannot be easily fixed.

Q: I get error messages at game start when ENB compiles shaders like (enbbloom.fx (47,1) Error x3000: unrecognized identifier UI_whitespace)?
    Spoiler:
    Show

A: This problem usually indicates a corrupt ENB+Preset installation. Either you have not copied the files in the correct structure or you still have outdated files of another ENB preset in your game folder. If necessary, delete all files/folders beginning with “enb...”. Then copy ENB+REACTOR again into the Fallout 4 main directory as shown in the screenshot.

Some of the occurring image errors are not caused by this mod. To speed up troubleshooting, it is very helpful to disable/enable the entire ENB with the [ SCROLL LOCK ] key on your keyboard. If the problem still persists with ENB disabled, this can be ruled out as the cause and you can check other things like your mods, loading order, etc.

any idea what is causing this? must be the ENB, because that's all i have installed right now, but this constantly happened during my previous playthrough aswell. essentially the lighting changes for no reason mid gameplay with this enb enabled like it's switching filters or something.

here's a clip to show what i mean. i am in character creation with ENB effects enabled, i hit "enter" and after a few seconds the entire color of my screen changes. i back out, and it goes back to normal. doesn't happen with ENB effects disabled as you can see in the video.

not gamebreaking, but annoying as hell and especially so during normal gameplay.

The short version is that it is an ENB-specific problem where the interior/exterior factor is detected incorrectly. This is probably not fixable on the ENB side, neither by me nor by the ENB author. In my experience, however, it only occurs very rarely except in this scene.

First off thank you for what I can only describe as the most visually stunning I have tried in the Fallout series, kudos + endorsed right off the first 5 mins of playing, amazing work by yourself & everyone involved, you are a huge credit to the modding community.

My question is in relation to my personal rigs performance limits, what would you advise as a good starting point in terms of the enb settings & their impact on visual/performance in order to gain better FPS. I have made no changes since the first time setup following the guide 100% & have had no issues I have noticed, this is purely me just wanting to get the best out of the experience you have provided.

    I am running a Ryzen 7 5800X3D @ 4.20Ghz, 32GB RAM @ 3600Mhz & RTX 3060 12G.

In most areas I have explored (minus the usual busy culprits aka Boston etc) I average around 46 - 52 fps with some stutters & drops during fights to about 42- 48.

I only ask directly because as the mod author you have a far better understanding of the tools involved, any help at all would great greatly appreciated.

Once again thank you & keep up the amazing work!!

Hey, wow, thank you so much! I'm speechless...

There are an infinite number of screws you can turn. Ultimately, it's up to you what compromise you're willing to make. I would start with the inis (use BethINI) and try to reduce the level of detail. Things like LOD, grass density etc.. IMO It's better to have fewer objects but in high quality and lots of detail. You can also halve the resolution of shadows to gain a few FPS. However, I would only deactivate HBAO+ if you absolutely need to.

Then there are a lot of quality settings for shaders in the ENB menu that can be reduced (don't forget to save first and then apply).

Decreasing the quality by one level in enbbloom.fx should also improve performance.

I would also highly recommend mods that improve performance, for example Boston FPS Fix, Shadow Boost FO4 and optional Long Loading Times Fix, High FPS Physics Fix and Sprint Stuttering Fix.

It's also worth getting to deal with Godrays. Quality or Ultra Quality God Rays Performance Fix.

You can also try to use an upscaler if technically possible on your end -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm1cgHySMy4. Details in video description.

Only if all this does not lead to the desired performance would I start to deactivate effects such as SSAO, DOF, Antialiasing etc.

Btw, with your specs and fps, I'm guessing you're playing on WQHD?

This setting is not available with the ARRI Log Tonemapper. If the image is too dark, you should first check the settings of your monitor. The gamma calibration in the enbeffectpostpass.fx window should also be helpful. ISC: Brightness Multiplier in the enbeffect.fx window is also an option, but should be used carefully.

I just found another way to solve this problem:
Set the night brightness in NACX to the darkest level and the Adaptation somehow will give you a brighter image.

Sry to interupt , After installing the reactor and the latest enb, I find that the rain drop effect didn't show up when the rain weather did happened in the game. I have tested every mod in my MO2 that might affect the effect and read the guideline about the reactor installing but in vain eventually. BTW I have switched the DOF+RAIN option but still useless, Is there something i missed?

Have you installed ENB-Helper correctly? The effect does not work without it. There are a few weather situations in which the effect does not work. Have you forced rainy weather via NAC.X to be on the safe side?

Hey guys. Enjoying the ENB! Question. Whenever I enter/exit an open interior such as the red rocket gas station, the ground will either illuminate or dim. For instance, when I leave the interior of the gas station the ground outside will increase in brightness, creating an unnatural looking image. Is there a way to prevent this? Thanks!

Hi! Can you please update your mod to 0,496 enb? ENB window refuses to open with this mod installed (tried reinstalling ENB without this mod and window is opening), and there has been several updates after your mod came out

Ok i was partially wrong. your mod is still working, but enb window isn't opening.

No problems with 0.496. ENB Helper is absolutely necessary for Reactor and should not be uninstalled. The ENB editor is opened with the END key in this preset and not by default with Shift+Enter.

Have you checked the gamma of your monitor and the calibration in the enbeffectpostpass.fx window?
Take a look here: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php. From which number do you see the rectangles? In my experience, it is best for gaming when the fields become visible from about 7.
