About this mod

A very lightweight and compatible collection of combat tweaks: Simple locational damage, No Level-Health-Scaling, PUBG-Style aim models

Permissions and credits

1. Intent

The plugin is intended to provide harsh, punishing combat balance by doing 3 things:

  • higher relevance of damage and chance to hit by body part (headshots matter, crippling matters)
  • less bulletsponginess
  • more mechanical player skill required for good aiming

It should result in combat being less favorable for the player and force a very tactical combat style. It is meant as a functional replacement of other popular combat overhauls that are too broad for specific load order requirements. Essentially, this is my take on "how can I replace Better Locational Damage with as few changes as possible but still capture a similar style of combat?".

2. What does it do specifically?

Locational Damage: A much simpler version of Better Locational Damage in that only Body Part Data (BPTDs) is covered for all common races of the wasteland. Each enemy has a weak spot and it's much easier to cripple limbs now. Damage to the player behaves the same as with any other human NPC so the player receives more damage on head or chest hits as well, his/her limbs will also cripple more easily. Does not result in headshot-only style Ghouls (though you can easily fix that yourself using FO4Edit).

Health Scaling: Basically, this is the same as Unbogos Health Scaling with some numbers changed. HP pools are static per race and can only be raised by Perks, Endurance and other bonuses (which work as normal). Each point of endurance adds 20 base HP.

Gunplay / Aiming: Overhauls weapon recoil across all vanilla aim models (AMDLs) - larger default caliber means higher recoil, weapons designed for automatic fire (Assault Rifle and Minigun mainly) are easier to control. Lasers have recoil (which is plausible with physics and I don't want to see the discussion in the comment section). Removed recoil springback, which results in gunplay similar to popular tactical shooters like PUBG or ARMA - you'll have to manually re-aim after firing, bursts of more than a few shots are tough to keep on target.

VATS: Player damage reduction during VATS is lowered to 20% from 90% (vanilla). Makes being forced to stand still while in VATS an actual drawback.

A fair warning:
I've been playing FPS games since Wolf3D back in '92 and the balance with this is just barely bearable for me personally. It might be really damn hard or just plain challenging for you. Be aware that not engaging in combat or coming back later with better gear might become a good idea. A lot of creatures (Deathclaws, high-level Legendaries...) have high potential of one-hitting the player.

3. Compatibility

Should be compatible with all mods that do not cover the things mentioned above. Explicitly does not touch any NPCs or Weapons. All changes are either global settings or things usually not covered by other mods (save for those you would expect to, like the mods linked above).

Nuka World and Far Harbor DLC required (to cover their new creatures and guns). No, I will not make non-DLC versions.

No asset files included, the entire plugin weighs in just above 100 edited records, thus the name "lightweight".

Will require patching for mods that:
  • include custom weaponry with custom Aim Models
  • include new NPCs with custom Races
  • edit Game Settings related to aiming while being crippled

NOT compatible with Damn Apocalypse 0.9.1+ - this mod is actually mostly or entirely the same as Damn Apocalypse's combat plugin included in 0.9.1+.

Works like a charm with Agony or Insult To Injury.
