If you want males to use a different skeleton than females, this is the way to go. For example you could use Skeletal Adjustments for CBBE - Knee Fix by SQr17 and ZaZ Extended Skeleton by mastercchris at the same time, but you can use any two skeletons you like.

Now compatible with Outcasts and Remnants

I made this very simple mod because it bothered me that you can't use the mod  Skeletal Adjustments for CBBE - Knee Fix by SQr17 for female characters only and the mod ZaZ-Extended-Skeleton(ZeX) by mastercchris for male characters only. Now you can. This mod makes the gender you are not playing as use another skeleton. This is a simple .esp , but it may not be compatible with mods which modify races, I haven't tested them all.

Installation (Version 2.1):
This new version uses a method Tri0xin (kudos to him) came up with. Now, the mod should be compatible with most other mods on Nexus. It works by redirecting a skeleton to a different file path rather than renaming it. To install please follow these steps (when updating from 1.3 please look below):
  • Pick the right .esp . Use either the FOMOD Installer (recommended) or download the right .esp from the Miscellaneous Files (not recommended). 
  • Directly install the skeleton you want your character to use and manually download the other one.
  • (Now, create a folder named NPCAssets in Data\Meshes\actors\character) <--- Already done by the Installer, but you still need to do this --->  and drop the skeleton you don't want your character to use and it's associated files * in there.
  • Done!
*(for ZeX: skeleton.nif , skeleton.hkx , skeleton_faceBones.nif and skeleton_female_faceBones.nif; for Knee Fix only skeleton.nif)

When Updating to from 1.3 to 2.1:
  • Download and install the updated .esp Recommended: Use the Installer (Main File, v2.1)
  • (Create a new folder named "NPCAssets" (without quotation marks) in Data\Meshes\actors\character.) Already done by the Installer
  • Take the files from the skeleton of the other gender (for ZeX: skeleton_.nif ; skeleton.hkx ; skeleton_faceBones.nif and skeleton_female_faceBones.nif; for Knee Fix it's only skeleton_.nif), rename skeleton_.nif back to skeleton.nif and move everything to the new folder.
  • Done!


Some very important notes:
  • If you choose the wrong gender's esp, your game will crash upon loading a save, and when installing manually, only choose one .esp in total!
  • If the esp is active when starting a new game, you will get a CTD. First activate it once you are out of the initial character creation!
  • I would suggest to load BodyTalk after The One Patch to Rule/Bang Them All. BodyTalk morphs didn't work properly for me otherwise.
  • Before you write anything like "It doesn't work", please take a moment to load all your plugins into FO4Edit and check if anything is overwriting the entry for the human and ghoul race.

To Uninstall:
Disable the .esp or uninstall the mod with the mod manager of your choice, or manually remove the .esp from the data folder. The NPCAssets folder will no longer be needed, but it doesn't harm if you let it stay where it is. 


If this way of uninstalling causes any trouble (which it shouldn't), you can let the esp active and edit it using FO4Edit. Scroll a bit and you will find ANAM Male Skeletal Model and ANAM Female Skeletal Model. One of the entries has been changed to actors\character\NPCassets\skeleton.nif.
Redirect it to actors\character\characterassets\skeleton.nif. If you are unhappy with the skeleton everybody uses in-game now, just install a different skeleton.
