    Version 1.37 is now up!

Please note - I am moving house and won't have time to respond to queries/bug fixes during Oct 2018!

A couple of bug fixes in this one. Firstly for those of you having trouble with Nat getting all surly and uncooperative when her affinity threshold is reached, I have fixed a problem with how the thresholds were handled. She will stand around a bit until you go up to her and then she should greet you as uncle/aunt Blue. After that she should go back to normal running around and doing your bidding. The second fix removes the female player 1st person hands I inadvertently added to the BA2 file last time. Enjoy!

I've been overwhelmed by the reaction to this mod, thanks to everyone for the support :) With a mod of this complexity there were bound to be bugs and I am working on fixes for all those that have been reported. Could I ask a favour? If you find an issue, can you log a bug report? It only takes a couple of minutes and it really helps to keep track of problems and issues rather than them getting lost in the comments section.

Please give a description of what steps you took before the issue occurred and then a brief overview of the problem. Please also add a list of other mods you have loaded.

For those of you having problems recruiting Nat, as a last resort you can enter the following console command: SetStage COMPiperNat 20
This will force the quest to start up, recruit Nat and skip the dialogue leading up to the recruitment phase.

    Cheers!

    Status Update

Sorry to abandon this mod which apparently still has a few bugs here and there which need to be ironed out. Not really surprising as it was hellishly complex to put together! I don't know when and if I will have time to look at the bugs as my life is pretty hectic at the moment. If you want to try out the mod anyway I would advise you to save the game so you can go back to before you installed it just in case there are problems. To avoid any potential issues please ensure you have talked to Piper about the interview she wants to do before loading the mod. Once the Mod Quest starts, try to complete the Recruit Nat Quest in a linear fashion and if using AFT, don't dismiss Piper until Nat has found and entered her Power Armor. Once this is done, the Quest should complete and you shouldn't have any further issues.

Ok. The mod has several issues.

I fixed most of them with the Creation Kit, but I don't know how to upload it like a mod.
Moreover, mod's author abandoned the mod, so I can't explain him how to fix it.
The main problem is that Nat is not properly coded as a companion.
    Most of that means:

    1. Companion magazines have no effect on her. Neither has the Inspirational perk.
    2. She doesn't scale with the player character.
    3. She has 0 SPECIAL in her stats.
    4. She isn´t properly coded to attack in combat and may use to run off and say the famous "leave me alone"
    5. Also, she has no default gun.

I managed to fix the first four points, and I assume that the fifth one is because of her child condition (I can be wrong with this).

If anyone wants to fix the mod for personal use, answer this message (I mean, I won't explain all the steps if the mod is dead).

IF MOD'S AUTHOR EVER COME BACK, I WILL BE PLEASURE TO HELP HIM. JUST SEND ME A MESSAGE.

(Sorry for the capital letters, but is to call author's attention if he returns).

      Or even better.
I can share with you my fixed archive. I used it in Vortex and works fine.

If anyone wants it, I may be able to send you the mod. Maybe through an E-mail.
Of course, I would totally prefer to give the fixed version to the author, so everyone can have the mod properly updated. He made an incredible work with the mod that I wouldn´t be able to do myself at the moment, and deserves all the credit. I only solved a few issues. But, sadly, the idea of talking to him seems impossible, as he is inactive.

I am interested in the steps you took to fix it if you don't mind explaining. I was about to install this mod and follow all of @sdu2018's advice on getting this mod to work. I am curious if you also followed their advice to making the mod work. Thanks

      @hardslaps

What that man says has nothing to do with this. He is talking about how to make the mod work, and it always worked fine for me. I'm talking about the lack of companion's code that Nat has. The lack of normal fuctions that she has.If the mod didn't worked before, it won't work now.And yeah, I mind explaining, cause I'm not in home right now.

I now that sharing a file through Internet has it's own risk, so I understand your point and lack of confidence.

Maybe I should upload it to Nexus? I don't know if it has a secure system, so there will be no problem if you download it then. Of course, again, giving the proper credit to the original author.

If you want to try yourself, I'll give you a little but useful tip:
Just compare Nat's code with Piper's one.
With that and a few videos in mind, you will see the problems that this mod has.
      Again:
I didn't fixed the "My mod doesn't work" issues. My Fallout 4 runs perfectly fine with this mod. I only give it those companion basic features that it lacks off.

No worries, thank you for taking the time to reply anyway. I have used this mod previously a couple years ago and it was working alright for me then, too. If you could upload it to Nexus, that would be great, but of course on your own time. I would absolutely appreciate it, though. The mod author did state he abandoned the project and it's not uncommon for community fixes to take over. Like you said, just credit the author and maybe state that you can take it down if JonnyDotNet ever requested it

I turned down the mod cause I felt totally unable to improve her dialogue.
I´m a 18 years old guy with no knowledge on computers (studying to be neurosurgeon) and who speaks Spanish as main language.

If you want the archive, give me your mail and I´ll share it.

Here is a short list of what I did:

      1. She now has a default 10mm pistol with unlimited ammo (so no more "box fights") and a clean teddy bear (Why? Because she is still a kid).
      2. She won´t run anymore from combat.
      3. She will have player´s level instead of her original level 6 (which used to let her get killed as fast as you enter in combat).
      4. She will gain effect from Live and Love magazines (those companion magazines).
      5. She will gain the effect of Inspirational perk (as normal companions).
      6. I think I even gave her 10 Special. To know this, I would have to start a new playthrough, but I´m unable to do that because of many other mods. If you want to help me, install the mod and write this in your game:

      Prid 00002f21

      Getav Luck

If it says 10, then I finally did it well.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I just opened FO4edit and made some of the changes you said plus some others that were usefull after testing. The remaining jankiness in the mod I think comes from the quest scripts that are created by the mod, but nothing that I can really do about it with the tools I have.

Ideally, Nat should have been made a companion the same way Llama made Heather - independent but parallel to the existing companion framework. That way you don't have to also run a multi-follower mod to get everything to work properly; you could have her and Piper as is.
Those multi-follower mods tend to break a LOT of stuff. Its why I refuse to use them - they conflict with so many other mods.
Unfortunately, the ONLY person I know that has the chops to fix this the right way is Llama (and maybe Thuggy), and I am sure they have no interest in picking-up someone else's headache and running with it (despite the whole concept being super-cool).
I may at some point look at it and see if I could apply the fixes (the things about Nat's stats, etc., are in my wheelhouse) and upload a fixed esp/esl for it, but don't hold your breath. I barely finish anything I actually use, and the way this is setup, I won't use it because of the multi-follower aspect. To fix it correctly is way above my pay-grade (would require guru-level companion scripting skills, with her own affinity system). I'd likely just make her a custom race to get all the kid-stuff 'un-stuck' from her, which is likely screwing up the game AI (something similar was done with Kat, in The Machine and Her). Just swap-out child Nat for companion Nat after you complete Reunions (the game already does this with other NPCs, like the Cabot family).
A fairly simple 'quick & dirty' fix could possibly be to just use the Children of Fallout mod, which not only revises the AI of every kid in the game so they fight, it gives them all stats and combat packages (and also makes them killable) and gives most of them the settler packages they need to be commanded. Without looking at both in FO4edit (to see conflicts), I would hazard to guess you could probably just load that mod second (in case this mod carries-over her vanilla stats). The chances of that one messing with this one is far less than vice-versa (so try loading it after this one and that might solve most of the AI issues).

Oh, and one last thing - changes to Nat won't 'stick' in a save game. She's already baked-in. You'd have to make changes to her and start a new game. I've had this problem, trying to turn a useless vendor from another mod into an actual vendor (the Keywords wouldn't get applied).
This is why i suggested above that the actor be disabled via scripts at some point, and be replaced with a clone - one with all the correct follower/settlement keywords and packages. Such a method would work on an existing game, and because its not the 'real' Nat, the game won't get confused with any vanilla scripting it applies to her (like when she tells Piper about hitting that other kid), so its optimal. Never try to overwrite vanilla stuff - build parallel to it, to avoid conflicts, always.

Just like the Author I used ATF and used the settings there to assign points for her SPECIAL and I used its Combat AI to make here aggressive and foolhardy and she actually runs into the fight saying sarcastic things.  I also downloaded that mod by the Russian? author who said she sounds more like a teen so he made a mod to turn her into one.  It works really well with this mod.  I don't know what magic was used to turn her into a teen but she looks great and she has no problem being a companion.  I always bring her and Piper together because it is cool to have a whole "family" running around together in Power Armors!

Ok. I uploaded a fixed companion features version of the mod.

I must give JonnyDotNet all the credit, as he deserves it for his almost perfect mod.

If he ever returns, I will be glad to give him the new files and let him upload them here.

I am in complete awe of your ability to get a child to wear power armor without them turning into an eldritch abomination.

I ended up customizing a radiation suit and adding armor slots to it for the kid who travels with me, but power armor would be so much more practical for excursions into the Glowing Sea.

This mod is still functional (for Fallout 4 old-gen 163, I don't know if it works in the updated game).

I'll show you the route I took to make it work.

Thanks to the tips in the comments below, please read on, the more information the better.

I've found that most of the time the problem isn't the mod, it's a mixture of everything (Bugthesda mod/game and personal configuration).

So it's necessary to adapt and create solutions when problems arise.

This mod works perfectly, but you have to have a bit of patience and follow a few steps:

    - 1- Before installing this mod take Piper as a companion, do missions with her and increase your affinity, 250 is enough. (For the impatient like me, you can use the console without mercy)

    * Addendum: Take Piper as your companion and do the interview; then wait at least 24 hours and talk to NAT in Diamond City to complete the subquest and get the newspaper; Do this before installing the recruitment mod.

    - 2 - Make a clean save, exit the game and install the mod.
Enter the game and go to Nat (you have to be with Piper).

*addendum: It is recommended to use a mod that allows you to have more than one companion by your side at the same time, there are several here on Nexus, but I only use the League, the others I don't like, the author recommends one, but I can't get it to work, so choose the one you like best but don't blame me if it goes wrong, because I don't use the others and it worked with this one.* Mod: Liga of My Companions

    - 3 - The quest is bugged:
When trying to talk to NAT the quest doesn't start.
There are several tips in the comments below, but the one that works for me is the console command "setstage COMPiperNat 5" (without quotes).
If this doesn't work, there are other options below, try them all until one works.
When you start the quest, if your charisma is high, just choose the right options and it will become your companion.

    - 4 - If all goes well, the Power Armor quest will appear. Go to Sturges and talk to him, asking him to build some armor for NAT.

    - 5 - Then leave the sanctuary with Piper and NAT and go to a nearby settlement or any other settlement you like, except Red Rocket, and don't build anything there.
    Dismiss Piper and keep NAT.
(If you're using the Liga mod, when you recruit NAT, don't use this mod to recruit her, as she won't have a dialog, you'll have to use the NAT mod to recruit her, and when that happens, the Liga mod will display a dialog box saying that there are NAT quests and you should give her priority in the dialogs, see how to do this on the Liga mod page)

    - 6 - Wait a few days, you don't have to do any missions with NAT, just sleep or do something in a settlement until you get the message that Sturges has built the armor. Then go to the shrine and talk to him.

    - 7 - Go to Red Rocket and the armor will be there.
Send NAT in, she'll start a dialog, as soon as she enters the quest is complete and NAT becomes a permanent companion.

    ==================================================================================

Some people report that when using the Power Armor, NAT's body deforms or disappears.
This bug didn't happen to me, so it's probably not a bug in this mod. What I do know is that this is a bug in the base game, and it also happens with Danse.
If it happens to you, it must be a conflict with another mod or a missing requirement.
I use the following mods that affect body textures and children:
    Orphans
    Orphans Vanila Plus
Diverse Children (uso as adições de texturas e rosto em miscelânea)

    ==================================================================================

    An extra:
For those of you who want to change NAT's appearance to adult, use this mod: YA_npbc Nat
But only install it last, when NAT is already a companion and has no mission. If you install it first, she'll be in the middle of the city of Daimond completely naked. If you install it last, she will have the same clothes but her body will grow and she will look young.

    ==================================================================================

Below I'll show you screenshots of the whole process. Unfortunately, I don't know where the prints from the beginning ended up, MO2 must have punched me in the ass (I'm still investigating what happened to them).

    -
The mod works so well that she and Piper have become a non-vanilla settlement.
    -
I hope I can be of help to those who try to use this mod and run into problems.-

      Important - Loading order

Below is a printout of my loading order for the three NAT-related mods.

If you use another companion mod, I suggest leaving the NAT mod below it, and the body texture mod below the Nat mod.

Try to place them as low as possible.

If you're going to use LooksMenu to change her appearance, leave the LooksMenu mod below all of them, otherwise it could give you bugs or even crash, because for the base game, she's still a child, and without mods, messing with her in LooksMenu could give you bugs and crash the game.

Thanks for sharing this comment, it is very helpful. The only problem I am having is that the quest never actually completes after Nat gets into her power armor. The quest is simply stuck on "Collect Junior Power Armor," any ideas?

edit: figured out how to identify the quest stages so I was able to fix it with console command "setstage COMPiperNat 40"

The quest will not be completed if you ask Nat to get into the power armor with different clothes.

It may or may not work with author's special designs, but any other clothes different to Nat's dress will not allow you to complete the mission.

To fix this, just make Nat wear her default dress and ask her to get into the power armor. The quest will be completed and you will be free to change her clothes now.

Adding a comment in case anyone finds/knows of a fix.

When completing the quest to get Nat her Junior Power Armor her head disappears and her limbs get all stretched.
It is as though she is wearing 'adult sized' power armor. The same error occurs if I try to make her get into a normal suit of power armor.
I have tried to use the AFT settings to set her scale as well as console commands to do the same thing, I just end up with bigger/smaller versions of her weird stretched torso stomping around.

I appreciate this mod is dead and abandoned but if anyone knows of a fix please let me know.

I had a different issue but with the same base problem: the power armor.
Her scale (the game reffers to it in that way) changes to a taler or shorter size whenever she is in power armor and I switch location.

      Current solution?
No idea, so I personally did´t asked her anymore to enter a power armor.

You know what your issue reminds me? There are commands that allow Paladin Danse to get out of the power armor. If you use them, he will have a similar problem with his limbs.
I installed a mod to make him properly have an option to exit the frame, but when I first tried with the commands and got the issue, what I did was close the game after quicksaving and then load the save again.
He was like a normal NPC after that.

It´s a great mod. With little problems but a great mod.
