About this mod

Edits an item set to replace the Timeworn Trenchcoat dropped by Placide with a retextured version of the Netrunner long coat seen on NPCS without affecting any of the other items using the original mesh.

Killing Placide in Cyberpunk 2077 is often cited as one of the most satisfying moments in the game. You get to send that twisted crotchety bastard straight to Hell, where he belongs. You get to take your revenge on every single one of those entitled sons of bitches that stabbed you in the back down in Pacifica. You also get a very nice Legendary quality leather coat (the Timeworn Trenchcoat). But while the female version of this item looks at least somewhat decent, the male version looks like something V went and stole off a back-alley prostitute that he could barely squeeze his arms through by the time he tried it on:

(Before)

There’s actually another item in the game’s archives that’s already fully meshed for a male character (but sadly, there’s no female version though). We already see this kind of item on NPCs. Going through the archives, I ended up using 010 Editor to make a new texture trying to match Placide’s coat. Neither the mod nor the original really look like Placide’s coat, but I think this is at least an improvement in most ways. And at least this way, this thing is good for something other than making V look 50 shades of stupid. But while I was playing around with this, I also ended up finding a whole new way to make these kinds of mods:

(AFTER)

SINGLE ITEM REPLACER METHOD

When I made this mod months back, it was just the texture + the normal model swap. But the problem with this method is that most of the items in this game are part of larger sets where every item uses the same mesh with different textures. Swapping the mesh meant EVERY ITEM that looks similar also gets changed instead of just the one I'm using. But after I finally got around to exploring the WolvenKit, I found a way to edit the files controlling the overall set so that ONLY THE ONE ITEM changes texture and mesh.

This mod ONLY CHANGES THE ONE ITEM while leaving all the other items in the set completely unchanged. If you install this into your game, ONLY THE TIMEWORN TRENCHCOAT WILL BE AFFECTED (and only the male variant).

DETAILS

To sum it all up, this mod contains a custom texture and edits files that govern the entire item set that contains the Timeworn Trenchcoat so that ONLY THE TIMEWORN TRENCHCOAT changes appearance. None of the other Toys R Us "trenchcoats" (the ones part of the set that the game titles "Coat_04") are affected.

And as stated, this mod is unfortunately Male V only. There is no female version of this model in the game.

DONATIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED

I just set this all up a minute ago. It all feels very awkward. If you like my content, donations would be greatly appreciated. If not, I understand. This is just a free-time hobby.

INSTRUCTIONS & USAGE

*UPDATE: IF THE BLACK TEXTURE IS SHOWING UP BROWN*
Some people have reported that the coat will appear brown instead of black because the black texture .mlsetup isn't loading in their game. This is a problem that's come up a bunch of times and it all has to do with Material and Texture Override. Despite what it may or may not say on that mod's Description page, it sometimes just stops working when you install it via REDmod.

There's no reason I can think of that Material and Texture Override has to be run via REDmod. Just copy the .archive for that mod into the traditional "archive/pc/mod" folder and save yourself the trouble in the future.

*INSTALLATION:
  • Copy the "archive" folder directly into your Cyberpunk 2077 directory

*Since this is a retexture of something already in the game, you obviously need to have the Timeworn Trenchcoat in your inventory.
  • You can find this item randomly in containers or at vendors
  • You get this item by defeating Placide if you end up attacking the Voodoo Boys OR siding with NetWatch at the end of Transmission
  • Another alternative is to spawn the item using cheats: Game.AddToInventory("Items.Coat_04_old_02",1)
***PATCH 1.6 has completely screwed up ALL VENDORS and changed loot tables. I don't know for sure whether you can still buy or find this item.***

***UPDATE: If you're having a hard time getting this item, you can use my Virtual Atelier mod to purchase it in-game: Jinguji Personal Shopping Service - Virtual Atelier***

BLACK VS. "NATURAL" VERSIONS

For anyone who wants black but more "natural" looking leather with a brown undertone, there's also a second version. I prefer the full black version, but both still resemble the leather coat we see Placide wearing in terms of texturing.

SHOWCASE VIDEO

If I'm being honest, this kind of mod doesn't really need a showcase video. But I finally had some free time and I felt like making a video (if you were confused by my bumbling write-up about "single item replacement", then watch the 2nd last segment of this video):
