Baldur's Gate 3

Whatever questions you have are probably already answered here.

You said to respec before updating but Withers won't let me!

  • Read the article here on how to respec. Respec spell is an extremely easy workaround that consistently works after major patches as the way it works is very simple. Appearance Edit Enhanced is also useable for this purpose, but it is complex and sometimes needs updates. Or you can use the patch to remove the Oathbreaker tag, if you're lame.

What is this tagged as?
  • Read the mod description.

What spell mods did you patch?
  • Full list is here.

Can you add a patch for [x]  mod/can I make a patch?
  • If I can do it through Script Extender as a one and done patch, sure, I probably can/will. If I have to maintain multiple files that override each other I probably won't because it's a hassle and takes up a lot of time. Please be reasonable when requesting patches and consider how much time goes into it.

If you want to make a patch or translation, or whatever, I don't care, my permissions are open. You don't have to ask, have fun. :) I only ask that you only pack the necessary files and set this one as a requirement, don't reupload the entire mod because I don't want to deal with the bug reports from an out of date version floating around. If the class needs an update after a patch (which is unlikely since it's a custom class but who knows), I will update it.
Can you make the spells available for other classes?
  • There have been a few requests for this so I plan to make them available as a separate mod in the future once I'm sure I have any bugs ironed out.

[x] isn't working properly.
  • Please make sure you have all the requirements and that your load order is correct. If you have checked all this and read the mod descriptions of all the mods you have installed and followed their instructions, please submit a bug report. Please do not submit bug reports for issues unrelated to the mod, or issues that are already listed in Known Issues

Your mod crashed my game!
  • Highly unlikely. This doesn't override any files from the game or other mods, and the scripts it does use are very simple. I try my best to avoid compatibility issues.

Likely culprits are load order issues, missing requirements, mod conflicts, or outdated mods. Always make sure UI mods in particular are up to date. Doing things like removing mods mid playthrough is generally inadvisable. Try not to do this if you don't fully know what you're doing. Any time a mod author tells you to respec before updating, do it

Most load order issues can be resolved by just reading mod descriptions, honestly. Use common sense, look at bug reports/comments before downloading, and use caution when installing ancient mods. I'm currently running 385 mods someone stop me with zero issues, it can be done.

The class isn't showing up in the class selection screen.
  • You are missing a requirement or your load order is incorrect. Make sure you read the documentation on all mods you're using and keep everything up to date.

Do I have to have Script Extender?
  • Yes. Profane Smite interrupts will not function correctly without it, and all spell list and optional patches are done through Script Extender because I don't like maintaining multiple files. I can confirm the mod will not crash your game if you don't have Script Extender as I have tested it myself. I tried to cut down requirements where I could so Compatibility Framework and Community Library are no longer requirements of this mod.

[x] ability seems unbalanced.
  • I've tried to keep this balanced (as far as Paladin can be balanced anyway, smite go brrr), so please let me know of any balance issues and I'll try to fix them. As of 3.0 I've overhauled the class and hopefully addressed most balance issues. Most spells are modified vanilla spells and I kept damage values the same as their counterparts, but balancing is a tricky thing and actual game devs don't always get it right.

You said this is balanced but level 20 isn't balanced!
  • Level 20 is typically played with difficulty mods. Here are some recommendations! I like to suffer but you can customize the difficulty to your liking, Combat Extender is great for that.

Mod fixer breaks the game!
  • No it doesn't and most of your mods probably have it built in anyway. Any mods that are not simple replacers of game files like a texture or a head mesh require Mod Fixer to work, otherwise the game gets real weird.

I'm using Vortex and--
  • Don't use Vortex. It does not handle PAK files well. It's a hot mess with this game. Use BG3MM. I personally recommend using Mod Organizer 2 with BG3MM to sort your load order because it uses symlinks and doesn't actually dump mods into your game directory. It's a little more setup but absolutely worth it.

Will you add regular Paladin spells to this?
  • No. If someone else wants to, I don't care, but I wanted this class to be more of a controller/debuffer. You're free to patch whatever spells you want in, of course. I don't really care.

This class doesn't match my exact vision for the class and you should change it so it does.
  • You're free to make your own mod. Constructive feedback is welcome but "I just don't like this" is not constructive. Don't advise me to delete half the class and the hours spent on it because you don't like multiclassing or whatever, that's just rude.

I don't want to use the Level 20 mod, can you make it 12 levels?
  • dbzmaster12 is maintaining a compressed level 12 conversion here. Optional patches all use Script Extender so they should all still be compatible with the level 12 version. The level 12 version compresses all the abilities and spell slots into 12 levels, so don't expect it to be balanced. If you want more balanced play, you can just use my version without the level 13+ features. I tried to design it to be a complete class at 12 while gaining new toys after 12.

Can you add double spell slots?
  • Mythalar patched this here.

Do I have to use the Level 20 mod?
  • Not technically, it won't crash your game or anything but obviously you won't get any features for level 13+. Level 12 progression should be identical to Paladin in terms of spell slots.

Will you add Oathbreaking mechanics?
  • I think my brain would explode if I tried. It's not wrinkled enough, sorry.

How do I get the Oathbreaker Knight in my camp?
  • Use Respec Spell, switch to Paladin, use the Break Oath spell, leave camp, and come back. He should be chilling. Use the Reclaim Oath spell and respec again. You can swap back to Blackguard and he'll still acknowledge you as an Oathbreaker and you can get the special Durge dialogues. No promises he'll stick around, though, he's picky like that. Easiest way is probably to just have a companion you don't use specced into level 1 Oathbreaker all the time.
