Just a heads up. I did not forget about this mod, but have no time to fix the last few bugs at the moment. Baby + last years of PhD = madness.

Yes! There now is a SDO patch over at Grieche his mod page! The Skyrim Distance Overhaul LOD Improvement (SDO). The patch should overwrite his, works like a charm, very simple yet genius solution, why I never thought of it.... NOTE my OPTIONAL LOD files still are and remain incompatible with his mod, just install my main file, and install Grieche his mod, than install the patch he created!

Version 3.2. Just a small update.
Removed Dimfrost and Blackreach LOD files as some people had bugs with those. Will be included again when fixed.
The reupload is just for the BAIN installer, has nothing changed to mod!

- No longer in Beta.
- Replaced the which is present in vanilla Skyrim with as that is the one required but missing in vanilla.
- Created a BAIN installer (Credits to Surazal for creating the wizard.txt)
- Now used meshes from the ENB particle patch for the vanilla waterfalls.
- Bug in Wyrmstooth should now be fixed.
- forwarded some changes by USKP and Dawnguard/Dragonborn.esm in few ESPs I forgot.
- Thoroughly recommended to use the Static Mesh Improvement Mod (SMIM) on top of my mod to get nice new and improved windmill sails! Many thanks to Brumbek for creating those!

What is in the making/ known problems:
- The OPTIONAL New Skyrim LOD is NOT compatible with The Skyrim Distance Overhaul LOD Improvement by Grieche (The rest of my mod IS!!). Grieche now has a patch for this mod, but my optional LOD is still incompatible!!!! Please either install Grieche his mod with patch, or my optional LOD, not both!!
- The mod has been renamed; Names and load order have been submitted to the new BOSS master list, when it will sort properly is outside of my control! I suggest you use LOOT which does a much better job anyways.

- BAIN installer does not install the folder "Basic Core Files DG and DB only" when having both DG and DB installed. Please select this folder manually at the end of the install wizard.
- Two missing waterfall LODs. 1 in Skyrim and 1 near Fort Amol.

The next version will also have adjusted windmill rotors to reduce the number of concussions, brain hemorrhage and deaths among farmers ;)


For updating please use an interior save!

When updating from version 2.0 or earlier, I recommend you perform the following in an attempt to prevent old references from sticking in your save (Version 3.0beta and up is a completely different mod!):

1. Go to an interior that has no waterfalls.
2. Create a new save and quit the game
3. Remove my old version.
4. Load the new save.
5. Create a new save again and quit the game
6. Install my new version
7. Load the new save from 5 and enjoy the game.

=Mod description=

Ever wondered why distant waterfalls turn into ugly ice cubes? I did. I was disappointed to find no mods available that fixed this issue, only mods that changed the ugly ice cubes for slightly less ugly ones. They claimed waterfalls could not be distantly animated. So here it is, animated waterfalls at a distance! And I also distantly animated windmills and watermills along the way.

Note: Some people mention The Skyrim Distance Overhaul LOD Improvement (SDO) by Grieche. I use this mod in all my images and my video. It is a brilliant mod, recommended by me, but it does not render distant waterfalls animated, because simply ticking the "is full LOD" box on the old static waterfalls does not work!
The SDO mod compliments my mod real nice, also the optional waterfall effects file! (Makes things like the steam on bottom of waterfalls and the rapids fully animated in the distance)
Currently (Only) my optional New Skyrim LOD files are not compatible with SDO(The rest of the mod is!!), so you have to choose either of them (I recommend SDO if your PC can handle it). unless Grieche returns to modding and or releases his resource files, there will be no patch!

What I have done in version 3.0beta:
In essence I literally replaced all Waterfalls for 2 new ones. One low quality will be rendered as full LOD, and another full detail one for close by.

This mod does NOT contain scripts of any kind, and should therefore not cause save bloating.
I recommend running this mod, or just Skyrim in general really, in combination with ENBoost.

=DLC Support=

All DLC options are included in the FOMOD. DLC and new land support for Dawnguard, Dragonborn, Falskaar and Wyrmstooth are now available under the optional section. They are all merged into one esp in the Total Edition main file, which is, together with all other options included in the FOMOD/BAIN installer (Recommended).
Please report any bugs.

I suggest you download any version using either Nexus Mod Manager, Skyrim Mod Organizer or install using Wrye bash!

If you use The Static Mesh Improvement Mod (SMIM) from Brumbek (Recommended):
Please ensure you install SMIM AFTER my mod and YES to overwrite!!

If you use The Skyrim Distance Overhaul LOD Improvement by Grieche (recommended):
Simply do not install the optional New Skyrim LOD. The rest of the mod is perfectly compatible.

If you use WATER or Realistic Water Two:
When asked to overwrite 2 texture files, you can say yes or no. The textures are the EXACT same as those found in WATER and Realistic Water Two SO INSTALLATION ORDER DOESN’T MATTER AT ALL! You can overwrite either way (Load order does matter see Load order section). They are purely there for those people who do not use WATER or Realistic water two, but do want to use the recommended meshes. So if you are a vanilla, Pure Waters or other water mod user, you can simply install the WATER or RWT meshes without a problem!.

For Manual installation:

Simply unpack the archives in the Skyrim/Data folder and activate the esp files in the launcher.

The optional New Skyrim LOD should be extracted to the skyrim/data folder.
If you use The Skyrim Distance Overhaul LOD Improvement by Grieche, make sure you do NOT install my optional Skyrim LOD files.

All optionals should also be extracted to the Skyrim/data folder.

My mods are dependent on the Update.esm! Make sure you update your game

=Load Order=

BOSS does not recognise the mod immediately as I have renamed the ESPs!!
Yes it was necessary, your computer will not blow up, so please don't start nagging me about how it ruined your life ;)
This mod needs to be loaded BEFORE Realistic Water Two (RW2) and AFTER Wyrmstooth and the unofficial Skyrim patches (USKP).
Other than that, there are no rules. You can load it anywhere you like!!

=Performance impact=

The performance impact of this mod is minimal, but can cause stutter on very low end machines. With ENBoost I do not have a performance impact at all. (I have an AMD 6950 2GB, 2500K @4.5Ghz.)
Since version 3.0Beta, performance should have been improved!
For version 3.0Beta and up, Please turn the setting iMaxDesired= under [Particles] in your Skyrimprefs.ini back to 750.
Don't set higher than 900! it can cause flickering (Also see readme FAQ section). My previous versions might have required you to set this setting higher!
If you use Wet and Cold from Isoku, and the cold breath disappears, increase this setting with small increments of 50 until fixed.

- Better Mills Textures by Raphou112 (Simply install his SkyFalls and SkyMills version!)

This mod is NOT compatible with:

Any mod that changes the placement or shape of any waterfalls in game. (Not talking about the meshes or textures here, those don't affect my mod!)
This will likely be any landscape changing and or custom house mods that move, or delete waterfalls. If you find any incompatible mods, please let me know.

Waterfalls placed by other mods, will not have distant waterfalls, nor will they be animated!

This mod has a patch for Project Parallax Remastered. It comes with Unofficial Skyrim Patch (USKP) and Enhanced lights and FX (ELFX) compatibility included!
