    RTX 4090/4000 v0.6.1 changelog:
-Minor tuning to Ambient Occlusion intensity.
~Ambient occlusion now matches the Standard/3090ti preset but uses 4 times more rays for accuracy.
    -Minor tuning to grass distance/density.

    RTX 4090/4000
    v0.5.3 changelog:

-Reduced Ambient Occlusion intensity and added more to the grass.
-Reduced fire shadow resolution to prevent visual bugs.
-Improvements to Ray Traced water and reflections noise.
~[Experimental] Ray Traced water should now better match your sky mods. Specially visible at night. May also work with the Darker Nights mod.
~Ray Traced water now shows more small objects.
-Added a bit more intensity to sunlight.
    -Increased tree render distance.
-Added some experimental changes that should help with texture quality and overall stability.

The HD Tree LOD Billboards mod was tested with this version and is now a recommended mod. See the mod combination in action below.

The mod is just s config file, editing advanced rendering(graphics) settings, not present in the game's menu.
It was fine tuned on 4 different card
The 4090 version is very is demanding.
the standard version, looks almost at good, but is much less demanding.
I Looks up your AMD GPU card, and it seems to be equivalent to an Nvidia RTX 3070
Pick the "standard" non-4090 version of the mod, it says in description that it is tested om RTX 3080 and 3090ti

I am on a 1080p monitor with a 4090. Using the 4090 config tanks my FPS from about 200 to 110-130 with DLSS frame generation and to 70-80 fps without DLSS and also causes some input lag.

I changed the config to 3090ti and am at 145-150 fps stable with DLSS. Hopefully the visual quality is not worse than vanilla RT.

ok I believe the RayTracingAmbientOcclusionRayCount setting is what causes the fps to tank most.

it was set to 8 in the 4090 config. I reduced it back to 2 to get >144 frames.

Well, after experiencing the 4000 config on my 4090, I wouldn't lower the raycount again. I did some testing today and the visual difference between 2 and 8 is dramatic! I rather live with the much lower performance on my 4090. 4k DLSS Performance still runs around 70 - 100 fps with Framegen.

I am using 4k DSR on my 1080p monitor.

Try using DLSS auto instead of performance setting and I think you will notice good increase in fps while the image quality also improves.

@ozairshafiq you should force dlaa with dlss tweaker
@KobraKay69 wtf, have you a really old CPU ? i'm almost never below 60 with dlss quality and fg , never below 80 with balance and in the space with performance but performance aren't ok about fidelity.
      full of 4k texture mods.
i oc to 3Ghz but it's just 5 fps gain on quality dlss
      FE watercooled.

Not an expert in graphics, but does the RTX 4000s version of this mod disable DLSS? The visual I achieve with your mod and requirements (HD Tree LOD Billboard and Tweaks) installed is nice, just asking this out of curiosity, because my graphical setting says "DLSS is not supported" after the installation.

No, this mod cannot do any such thing. It must be something else:)

But TWEAK might well be able to; and our mod does NOT require/recommend TWEAK. Where did you read that?

Check: You are sure, you started the DirectX 12 version of the game? If you start the DirectX 11 version, DLSS with be grayed out.

      If it is not that,

      You can try
      - delete: Documents/witcher13/dx12user.settings
      - simply re-install the game,

The mod doesn't include anything that can disable DLSS. But I hope you get it to work :)

Tweaks is listed as requirement for HD Tree LOD Billboard. Yeah, I'm running a 4090 + i9 system and pretty sure I'm playing the dx12 version of the game. The current graphics looks fine without the DLSS, but seems weird that it's disabled. Do you use the Tree LOD Billboard mod without Tweaks? If so, I will try to delete that mod and see.

A question about deleting the dx12user.setting file: I have modify that file many times as required by other mods, what might happen if I delete it? Will the game self-generate a vanilla version of the file? or will the game simply not work?

Do you know changing what file can disable DLSS?

EDIT: Nvm, I fixed it by reacquiring some files after verifying file integrity via Steam. Still don't know what exactly was causing the problem, but it looks like all three mods work fine. Thank you.

Yes, we use the HD Billboards without TWEAK; we make the needed "tweaks" in the .ini file,

And sorry, we didn't know that HD Billboard "required" TWEAK, we should make a note, TWEAK is not needed, as we just need the textures from HD Billboards, and the settings needed are in the .ini:)

Wow. Removing Tweaks finally made this mod look glorious. Was having issues like ridiculous light pop-ins when I had Tweaks installed. There's still a little bit in a few locations when I really look for it, but when I'm not looking for it I don't even notice. Great job all around.

Why is Tweaks not recommended? It's just exposing settings, nothing else?

This is absolutely brutal on my 4090 but it does look fantastic.

I saw in the ini file that you're messing with cascadeshadows as well, aren't those not in use at all when RT Shadows is on?

Shouldn't you still keep "xinput9_1_0.dll" in order to load custom ini files (which is what your mod is)? I got confused by the description that says to remove it.

Thank you. Within this mod's settings I finally found a way to increase the exposure of things touched by sunlight. Something I always tried to fake via Reshade but was only moderately successful. Now my game looks glorious. Thank you!

Always thought the RT in the Witcher 3 looked kinda strange compared to other titles, this mod finally fixes that and makes the lighting in the game look much more natural.

Performance impact is brutal on 4090 though, played at 4K DLSS Quality before with around 100 - 110 fps with Framegen and with this mod I had to lower DLSS to Performance and get between 70 - 100 fps now. But the visual difference is night and day, so to me it's worth it!

Both version cause my game grass to flicker insanely making the whole game unplayabble. Ig 4.04 broke it bc before it worked absolutly fine. I reinstalled my whole game, only using this "mod" and the problem came out right after. 3090 4090 version both causing it. (i have no idea whats the problem. I have a 4090 and its worked perfectly when i played around march. ) Pls update the mod.

Im getting massive lag if I'm trying to use frame generation with new main version, each time I go from menu, into cutscene and sometimes just out of nowhere there's stutters. Also it looks... "odd", extra sharpened etc, went with the alternative version for 3090ti much better, and no lag with stable fps.

Also to note, in description it says " Your settings in "graphics" will show "low" for many setttings", but on 4090 version I only had shadow quality on low, and on 3090ti it's only texture quality is low. Is that correct, or are my settings somehow broke? :D

Hey we will look into the Frame Generation stutters and the settings menu difference. FG does stutter whenever you go into a menu and back out since it seems turn off when you're in any menu and turns back on afterwards. It also stutters when your base fps (before FG) is too low, normally anywhere at or below 30fps. It is recommended you update DLSS to 2.5.1.0 and DLSSG (Frame Generation) to 1.0.3.0 which is what the game was tested on. You can see the download links below. Drop into The Witcher 3\bin\x64_dx12 and replace the files nvngx_dlss.dll and nvngx_dlssg.dll.

      https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-dlss-dll/
      https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-dlss-3-frame-generation-dll/

If you can, please also let us know what CPU you have. I tested this file on a 4090 with a 13700k at 5160x2160 with DLSS balanced and FG on. Thanks

Edit: You can also reduce the sharpness by going into the .ini file from the mod and changing the following.
      [PostProcess]
      DLSSSharpness=0.20000

      to

      [PostProcess]
      DLSSSharpness=0.00000

About what settings are set to "low" or not, it doesn't matter, it just means that the Vanilla graphics menu doesn't have a preset that accurately describe the changes we made, it doesn't mean that it is actually "low". Making that menu recognize and display our extended settings require we write a large XML file, to reflect those settings. but it has no effect on the visuals. if you dial on the settings, it will no longer be the preset we made, that could both look good/bad/the same; Our preset will/should reload each time you re-start the game, until you uninstall the mod.

Thanks for the replies) It's definitely feels more smooth with the downloaded dlss and fg files, stutter is almost none when going from menus. My cpy is 5800x3d, video is 4080.

I was asking about graphical settings mostly due to the fact that only one of the settings is being set to "Low" using the mod, as I was expecting to see more of them as such. But if its all good, then all good :D

That's great to hear! We have a new update coming soon to the 4090 preset that should help performance further. I did check our files and confirmed that the change you saw to Low is correct. If you want to be completely sure it is working correctly, set all your settings to Ultra+ then close your game and open it again. This will make sure the game's highest settings are applied and then once you re-open the game, ours will apply on top of that. It will still show as "Low" but you will have the correct settings applied.

Right, if I change settings, and exit the game, on new launch they dont revert to anything. They just remain Ultra+

Same here, all my settings stay as ultra for some reason?

To add, I'm using the standard version on 4.04. Simply added the ini file to the instructed location.

Would be great if someone could confirm if all the tweaks are still being used even if the in game graphics menu still shows ultra+.

If you put the file in the right folder, it should work.

The game just shows the setting it that mostly closely matches the settings in the .ini, and for setting that is not in any vanilla presset, it will show "low".

There is a way to test that the file is actually loaded, edit the .ini file with a text editor, and add this:

      Find this section
      [Rendering/RT]
      And add this

      EnableLightingOnlyMode=true
      AmbientLightingOnlyMode=true

Then the game will render the world in a greyish way without textures, this is a lighting debugging mode.

Hey thanks for the response and suggestion.

I'm pretty sure some of it, like the RT settings, are working - my FPS is lower and I can tell the reflections are clearer.

What I'm unsure about is the rendering or foliage settings that are included as like you said, when they are set to a value which isn't a preset, it should display as 'Low' in the in game menu. For some reason, for me,  all the settings in game keep showing as Ultra+, which may indicate that these settings aren't taking effect.

What I've done for now is install the ini file as instructed, then copied some of the settings in your preset to the dx12user.ini file (mesh, LOD, grass, and foliage render distance plus a couple more); found in the documents/The Witcher 3 folder. Now some of the in game graphics settings are displaying as 'Low' as expected.
