Some clarifications about this list: it is mainly made by testing mods that I was using previously on Classic Version (1.32), to see what I should still include in Next Gen (4.00) and what I can discard from my personal modlist. So it is more like a "I'm doing this for myself, but maybe you can find it useful as well" rather than "I want to create a complete resource for every single mod out there".

Granted this preamble, please keep in mind that:

    • this list is not complete nor exhaustive, it just reflects more or less what was my previous setup.
    • I'm still working on testing mods that I was using, so this list is subject to change and possibly grow when I discover more (it is WIP right now)
    • there can be a lot of other mods, especially about bugfixes and graphical stuff, that may have been included but that I may have never used and I may not be interested in. I have no time or even desire to test every single mod on Nexus.
Said that, I also think that this kind of resource can be more useful if created by a community-driven effort (more people can better check and test more stuff), so I gladly accept every suggestion about mods to include, but please follow these simple guidelines about how to suggest mods for inclusion (nothing too strict, just following common sense and a bit of organization):

    • please use the Bugs section here on the "mod" page to report mods to include, I think this can help in better track statuses and discuss every one of them without having to search for things here in the comments section (it can become messy really soon)
    • please use a single "bug report" for every single mod that you want to include. Do not open a bug report and paste a list of multiple mods, it will defeat the purpose to keep things clear and organized.
    • test things yourself, do not just post a mod name and ask to me to test it. It is more likely that if you were using a mod on Classic and are familiar with it, you are the best person to assess if the vanilla Next Gen already has this fix/feature. And also, like I wrote before, do not expect that me (or some other people) can have the time and will to test every single mod out there. Just do your part ;-)
    • provide some sort of documentation for your suggestions, so we can reduce the guesswork at a minimum. If it is a graphical mod, or it has some sort of visual feedback, a couple of comparison before/after screenshots (taken from both 1.32/4.00) are the best option. If the official mod page says that the mod was included(maybe because the author checked the scripts), it is also a great source. For everything else, try to provide anyway some sort of valuable and checked information. Every mod is different, so judge yourself what can be the best way to test it.

And thank you everyone for your appreciative comments! :)

    Greeting everyone!
I am the new lead contributor of the "List of unneeded mods for Next-Gen Update". This resource is now associated with Next-Gen Patch Changelog 1.32 vs 4.04a_REDkit, but I will keep the mod page as stand-alone resource.
Everything was updated for 1.32 vs 4.04a_REDkit, based on various research and information we collect so far.

I want to thank Dyvalas for the initiative and the precious work he done before. He deserves Kudos <3.

If you wish to share more information or add new mod in the list. Please follow Dyvalas instruction in the Sticky Post above.

Hello, could you make a changelog adding the unneeded mods of each update please, I think it will be easier for the people who already checked all the description before

I'm reporting this here instead of directly updating the mod page:

Dyeable starting Kaer Morhen armor set
is no longer needed as the starting armor is  now dyeable without using mods.

There is still the scripted condition it must be "witcher" (green) quality, which the starting set is still in "common" (grey) quality.
Are you sure you have tested it in pure vanilla? You wrote the rule yourself, do you?

Ok right, I'm using a mod (my own, eheh) that gives starting gear Witcher quality.

I wasn't aware of this condition and I haven't tested in pure vanilla, but it makes sense what you say

hey thanks for the list, i have some questions thought.

i just got the witcher3 for pc 4.04 next gen version, do i dowload mods that only have the next gen on the title or will other mods work with something like this *mod bla bla 1.02 version for 4.04 version of the game* ?
some mods dont have next gen in the titles but they are recently made 23-2024 will they work ?
how do i check if they are compatible or even if they still work ??
    thanks
( there are also some collections will they work ? i only saw for version 4.0.1.37654 (11) )

Best you download the mod having {Next Gen Compatible} legend, from the little "Link" of course.
Some mods don't have "Next Gen" in their title yes, but sometimes the mention "4.04" are written in the description or mod files. Some are obvious given when they were updated since 19th July 2023 (date when 4.04 was released).

About the collection, I would avoid them. Not many of them are great or for 4.04. The only "good collection" in my eye is the most popular one.

This needs to be on the splash screen when that Red Prelauncher opens. I've wasted so much time fighting with outdated mods not realizing that they were holding things back.

Immersive Real-time Cutscenes is no longer Next Gen compatible.
Someone and then the author, found out it was implement once again by the 4.04 patch.

If the developers are going to CONSTANTLY update this 10 year old single player game, they need to include Enhanced Targeting for sure! This mod was created by MPStark and these are his comments:

"Witcher 3's automatic targeting fails to impress, especially in combination with the "softlock" mechanism -- targets can change wildly for seemingly no particular reason, during a dodge, for example, which can lead to violent (and frustrating!) deaths from being locked in an animation in a completely unintended direction."

I will add this, it's extremely irritating when fighting GROUPS of enemies. I don't know how this game didn't flop at launch in 2015 in it's vanilla state. The enemy targeting is unacceptable. Zelda has gotten it right since 1997, that's the blueprint. Do it or do better CD PROJECT RED. Or let the modders handle business if you don't know what you're doing. Stop messing around with the game.

This is not related or even tangentially useful to the scope of this list.

And to be honest, even reading gratuitous complaints (instead of maybe some useful suggestion) to the game developers, is a bit of a downer.
