I'm not sure which folder I'm meant to use for the Steam version. It's not made clear.
Looking at the .exe in a hex editor I found this ini command: SprintFoVAdjustment but this does not appear to be in any of your ini files. I figured adding it and toggling it off or with a zero value might disable the fov effect on sprinting but I don't know where to put it.
This is probably a dumb question, but i'm gonna ask it anyway. Will these files allow me to modify things to do with charecter progression? I'd very much like to increase the number of skillpoints gained per level, and the starting attribute points, since i'm A) not very good at the game, and B) would like to be able to experience more of the successful skillchecks without having to play through half a dozen times with different builds.
This is especially true with the release of Peril on Gorgon adding another 50 levels to each skill, and increasing the requirements of some skillchecks in the normal game to match the new values, (for example, a hacking check on monarch that previously was 100, is now 140), but only increasing the levelcap by three, meaning that it's only possible to cap out a very few skills. 330 total skillpoints is really very few compared to the number it would cost to cap out even HALF the available skills, even taking into consideration the spread gains below level 50, and the free points from attributes.
I've looked through the ini files provided, but i'm inexperienced with modding, and i'm not sure if i missed it because i wasnt sure what i'm looking for.
Any help or advice anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Hello, I apologize if I am dense but I am a little unsure of if I put these files in the correct location. I downloaded the packed file into the installation location of The Outer Worlds. I then extracted the zip file to a folder that the zip file created "The Outer Worlds - Default Game Folder Ini's-13-1-0-1572203064" once it extracted I opened up this folder and then I moved the contents of the "Engine" folder into the existing "Engine" folder that already existed in The Outer Worlds game install folder and did the same with the contents that were in the "Indiana" folder to the existing "Indiana" folder. Are these the correct locations for these various .ini files? If so then great if not where do I need to put them?
Also the reason I downloaded these files was to see if there was a way to edit an .ini file that would boost the default master audio setting to a higher value. I am playing this on my Dell Precision M6800 laptop, I am amazed that the game runs on this hardware because the GPU is an AMD FirePro M6100 that only has 2GBs of memory . Yes I am an older gamer and my hearing is not what it used to be and this particular games volume is a lot lower than all the other games I have installed and I have been having a difficult time hearing the various dialogues as well as the music. And yes I have the audio volume maxed out in the normal game setting as well as the laptops volume is also at 100%. I did find the following information in the "WindowsEngine.ini" that is located in this path The Outer Worlds\Engine\Config\Windows
[Audio] AudioDeviceModuleName=XAudio2 ; Uncomment below (and comment above) to use multi-platform mixer module by default ;AudioDeviceModuleName=AudioMixerXAudio2
; Defining below allows switching to audio mixer using -audiomixer commandline AudioMixerModuleName=AudioMixerXAudio2
; Defines a platform-specific volume headroom (in dB) for audio to provide better platform consistency with respect to volume levels. PlatformHeadroomDB=-3
Would this be the correct file to edit? If so what do I need to change? I am not a coder but I think this may be where I might accomplish what I want to do but do not know for sure. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Robert B.
Looking to change difficulty-Either tinker around with the damage values for Supernova difficulty or add permanent companion death to other difficulties, has anyone played around with the ini.s here yet?
I'm wondering the same thing. I looked through all the files for something that would change the damage values but didn't find anything. Hopefully somebody will chime in.
No such thing as a GameStop version. they sell it for consoles, but usually nobody gets a PC game on disc except as a collectors edition
GameStop has no Store Client, sure you didn't mean the Microsoft GamePass subscription service?
You either have the Epic Store Version, or the Microsoft Store (GamePass) version., and no, they don't go in the same folders Description explains the installation, for both, but I'll add a note that XBox GamePass, is just the Microsoft Store version.
I always use, and recommend going to PCGamingWiki, for all config settings, and known fixes for issues getting games running on PC. The Outer Worlds - PCGamingWiki - PCGW This game is a good example of what gets added, with a popular release. Though unless PCGW got a review key, which they often do, there will be very little on the Wiki, at release, but that can change very quickly, with the most popular games.
I'm really confused, so I won't be able to get these options if I have the Game Pass version on PC? Will I be able to get these options if I buy the game on the Microsoft Store for $60?
I don't own MS version, but as I understand it, it makes no difference, whether you get Game Pass, or full price version. If you get it through the MS Store you get the UWP version, which is basically a MS App, without the traditional Exe
If you're buying the game for $60 you're better off getting it through Epic, where you get an x64 exe, and a DRM free version. DRM free means you don't need the Store Client running while you playing, you only need it for Downloading the game, and updates.
If you are going through MS store, with Game Pass, you must keep paying the monthly subscription to access the game.
As for the Mod, it ultimately makes no difference, but UWP may involve some hoop jumping, you don't get with a normal game. Modding is best done outside the Windows folders, as it avoids the extra protections Windows, with the UAC (User Account Controls) being the main issue. UWP adds some additional restrictions, which may entail changing security settings to take ownership of the Programs Files folder. I can't say it will, because I avoid UWP at all costs.
Let me be clear, these Ini's are already part of the game, but hidden away, you can use the mod to change settings in the user Ini's, without adding the files to the game folder, but some may work differently, or not work as user settings. You will definitely be able to get them in the UWP Game folder, but I can''t say exactly what hoops you will need to jump through, if any, because I don't have that version of the game to find out.
Take Keybindings, though similar, they are not identical in user settings
Here's the Default Ini's Key Binding for Toggle Crouch found in <Path-To-Game>\Indiana\Config\DefaultInput.ini
Changing That in Game from "Left Ctrl" to "C" adds the changes to the one Ini all in game Settings use, GameUserSettings.ini Windows (Win64 Version) %LocalAppData%\Indiana\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini
Microsoft Store (UWP Version) %LocalAppData%\Packages\PrivateDivision.TheOuterWorldsWindows10_hv3d7yfbgr2rp\LocalCache\Local\Indiana\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini
SO in general terms, to change a keybinding given in the Default format +ActionMappings=
The new Keybind needs AddedActionKeyBinds= But you also need to remove the old one, with RemovedActionKeyBinds=
I've tested that it in game, and the Default settings, are not applied, if just added to the user folders Input.ini, Keybinds are a two step process at the user end, as you can see. If you change the default files in the game folder, it simplifies the process, but I've barely tested anything yet.
As it turns out - it is impossible to add files to the game folder in the UWP version, not surprised. There is no workaround as of yet, either. Even if you grant yourself ownership of the folder and its subs you will not be able to add files.
I spent an hour smashing my head in my keyboard for regretting my MS Store purchase and wish I would have gone for Epic Games..
MS Store has added framework to add mod-support to UWP but the devs still needs to utilize this and setup a package which points the game to a folder in Program Files\ModifiableWindowsApps which is set up to project files to the games folder once run..
Well if you've really taken ownership, you should be able to add them, but this is one of the many reasons why I will never use any UWP games. I don't want, to ever need the devs permission to mod any Win32/Win64 games, I just Take Control of my PC's content.
Indeed apart from the two essentials (Windows Settings, and the Taskbar Clock), I have removed every single Metro (UWP) App from my Windows 10. You have to look very closely to even notice that I'm not still on Windows 7.
Regardless, though it sucks that, you're unable to add files, you chose the UWP version, and have to live with the consequence. I don't mean to sound condescending by saying that, I'm just stating the basic facts. So on to living with those consequences.
What you can still change is the user config files, and do that by adding some of these settings there instead. I'm more confident that the Indiana Config settings, will work than the Engine ones. That's more because the Indiana settings, may actually override the engine defaults, than any other reason.
With the caveat that user settings may not use the same exact format (See Keybinds, for an example), and there's no guarantee that a specific setting has any in game effect. Just because the devs have the setting in their default Ini's.
It will take some trial and error, and we may end up finding out that some settings fail to work for UWP version, but do work for the Win64 version. So all is not lost, because you chose the UWP route, but also there's many valid reasons that cause experienced mod users to avoid UWP like the plague.
I know this will sound extremely dumb but i'm not too familiar with these sort of things. I'm looking for something that will help me increase the font size of the game given that because of my tv i can't see them very well and the text is extremely small. is any lines of configuration on these files allow me to do so? I tried the fix using the UI but that increases everything and some info on my hud gets covered because of that.
I wonder if these .ini files could help someone to create a mod that allows the Leap function to be bound to Dbl Clicking your standard movement Keys. Like in the Risen series (I think, or some other games).
WASD = standard movement Double Clicking any WASD = Leap in that direction.
Would be way easier and intuitive than holding a movement key then double clicking Jump key (space)
For now, using a Nostromo n52 I have macros created with a shift key at my left thumb and a movement key. (i.e. Shift + A runs Macro of A held Dbl click Space, Release A, with .01 delay between each) resulting in Leap Left

Nevermind, I should have tried my trusty F12 key first, which was set to take screenies through MSI Afterburner...
