Version 1.51
- Va'Ruun'kai add-on version 1.0. Will give this a lot of love as we will spend a lot of time here.
Desolate version - Found that some users were installing it as a patch after other versions, which would allow some extra precipitation. Forward files. In desolate version, removed tweaks to weather transition speeds so that Vanilla settings can be used. This should, if anything can, make the NAT in New Atlantis behave.
In short: Desolate is the version where you want better weather, but only a little bit with no fuss =)
- Va'Ruun'kai add-on version 1.0. Will give this a lot of love as we will spend a lot of time here.
-
Version 1.50
- Was holding out on big updates, but competition brings out the best in everyone.
New Version:
JUST ROYAL WEATHER:
Only touches weather. Sets sunrises to start at 5 AM. Tweaks weather acceleration, minimum and maximum duration. Nothing else.
Note: Creations versions was already pretty much this.
ROYAL WEATHERS CLASSIC:
Includes subtle improvements to vanilla encounters and proc gen. These are the best settings I have found for these values and have served as a healthy improvement over baseline, without taking up mod index slots, for countless users since launch. If swapping to "Just Royal Weather" you will probably appreciate for the first time the subtle changes in the full version.
ROYAL WEATHER FANTASY:
Includes weathers that aren't lore-friendly, but look beautiful.
ROYAL WEATHER DESOLATE:
Less precipitation, Vanilla Earth, etc.
Might not get it all posted tonight.
All versions include the Concept Art Akila RW enhancer as long as you load the mod after Concept Art Akila. No effect if Concept Art Akila not detected.
Let me know if there are other custm planets or biomes you want me to do weather for!
VERY OPEN TO FEEDBACK ON ALL VERSIONS. Now that I have 4 versions available, I can customize more to individual preferences without affecting the whole userbase.
- Was holding out on big updates, but competition brings out the best in everyone.
-
Version 1.43
- -Added more rare 1% weathers. We've all been playing the game long enough for some variation to be nice.
-Reduced precipitation chance in deserts and volcanic regions slightly.
-Made Paradiso more likely to be clear and sunny, closer to Vanilla.
-Earth more likely to play default desert weather.
-Tweaked weather acceleration. Super difficulty to test when all the planets act differently, so aiming for something that is an objective improvement without getting silly. You can override/tweak this to your own liking via config tweak, which most players probably have already done.
-Built in patch for Concept Art Akila. Has no effect unless you have Concept Art Akila loaded before Royal Weathers. Adds significantly increased weather variety and better lighting.
-I will probably update again relatively soon as I've found new techniques for making weather change more frequently. I will also be working on multiple flavors of Royal Weathers. Right now, the brainstorm is:
Royal Weathers - Fantasy (I'd like a more Starfield-esque name)
Includes non-lore friendly weathers that look super pretty. Basically, bundling the two optional plugins (rare icy moon and moon weathers). This is what I, personally, play.
Royal Weathers - Natural
Name for default current version.
Royal Weathers- Desolate
Vanilla Earth and other planets, less precipitation all around, more clear weathers. Not the version I will ever personally run, but I understand why someone might want it. I am thinking that this version may not be necesary as I make some reasonable tweaks to Royal Weathers - Natural (like those in the patch notes).
INVITING SUGGESTIONS:
It seems to be possible to assign custom weathers to specific locations, like PoI. This has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, all of the potential uses might require the "fantasy" version. For example, having Grav Anomalies have a chance to play ANY weather, regardless of where they are located. This sort of thing might be better suited as a separate mod, but Royal Weathers is tiny.
- -Added more rare 1% weathers. We've all been playing the game long enough for some variation to be nice.
-
Version 1.42
- Restored Londinium to an 90%+ chance to be heavily snowing, with only a very rare chance for other weathers.
-
Version 1.41
- Found one last sandstorm to remove from an inappropriate location. Oof. "Mountains" and "Frozen Mountains" do not have unique biomes in Vanilla.
In a later, more complicated weather mod, I will probably change this.
- Found one last sandstorm to remove from an inappropriate location. Oof. "Mountains" and "Frozen Mountains" do not have unique biomes in Vanilla.
-
Version 1.40
- Sandstorm update
-Removed potential for sandstorms from the "default climate" list. I've never been 100% clear when/where this plays, but it may have been a factor in sandstorms in snowy regions that some reported. Replaced with the clear weather list.
-Reduced chance to snow in New Atlantis to 1%. Added new rare sunny weathers.
-Removed sandstorms from Mountain and Hill regions, as some of these were snowy and it looked off. Added new weathers to fill the % chance.
-Tweaked very rare and unique weather chances to appear in various regions.
- Sandstorm update
-
Version 1.33
- Updated main plugin.
Minor, optional update.
Tweaks Vectera Space Encounters to be rarer.
This removes some settings, and pushes other settings closer to vanilla for increased compatibility.
- Updated main plugin.
-
Version 1.32
- Re-upload of textures with original name.
-
Version 1.31
- Re-upload of textures, optimized for better file size via xEdit.
Now includes an awesome Earth retexture to go with the other Earth improvements!
Thank you MoccasinBill for the awesome Nuclear Earth Retexture. I suspect this would have WAY more downloads but it never got a mod manager button. =)
https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/1041?tab=files
- Re-upload of textures, optimized for better file size via xEdit.
-
Version 1.21
- Reduced, from Vanilla, the chance for space encounters in the Narion system, where Vectera is located. Getting attacked by enemies as soon as you leave Vectera is a vanilla issue that doesn't personally bother me at all, but this tweak should help for the people that dislike it.
-
Version 1.20
- Restored enemies taking environmental damage, but now they must be human so that aliens don't die accidentally to hazards in caves etc.
Tweaked some settings for a better experience.
Resaved in latest version of xEdit.
- Restored enemies taking environmental damage, but now they must be human so that aliens don't die accidentally to hazards in caves etc.
-
Version 1.11
- Vanilla patch now removes the chance for vanilla Terrormorph events to play on planets where they wouldnt in Vanilla.
I truly didn't realize people might not want the planetary tweaks or that they were even that noticeable.
The Vanilla Patch has been updated to revert planetary settings (allowing Terrormorphs on additional planets, hostile encounters only on planets run by the Crimson Fleet, Ecliptic, or House Va'Ruun).
Sorry! Sometimes it's hard to understand differences in personal taste.
- Vanilla patch now removes the chance for vanilla Terrormorph events to play on planets where they wouldnt in Vanilla.
-
Version 1.5
- Was holding off on a big update until it was perfect-- but competition always forces the best out of everyone.
-
Version 1.3
- Re-upload of textures, optimized for better file size via xEdit.
-
Version 1.1
- Included all weather updates from Royal Galaxy. Updated load order advice (same as Royal Galaxy).
Changed most encounter setting to be identical to Venworks Open World Cave Overhaul.
https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/8050
That way, we are all balancing around the same encounter rates as we add new encounters. The values were already very close and this change should not be noticeable.
Updated Vanilla Encounters patch.
Added two optional "JaeDL cut" files that add very rare clouds and some snow to icy planets with no atmosphere. They look so beautiful and unique. Will be looking into finding lore-friendly locations for this sort of weather in the future.
Another adds rare venus weather and fog to rocky Moons. They look too good. In the future I'd love to figure out lore-friendly planets to do this for rather than just optional patches that affect all.
- Included all weather updates from Royal Galaxy. Updated load order advice (same as Royal Galaxy).
-
Version 1.01
- Added a warning NOT to change the Load Order of Concept Art Akila or GrindTerra in the middle of a save.
If you already play with these mods and are adding Royal Weather-- load Royal Weather after.
It does NOT matter where Royal Weather or its patches are in relation to these two mods-- but if you already have these two mods in your playlist, only adjust plugins that come after them. Leave them wherever they are during an existing playthrough.
- Added a warning NOT to change the Load Order of Concept Art Akila or GrindTerra in the middle of a save.
-
Version 1.0
- I'm happy with this mod and ready to call it Version 1.0. Future major updates will likely be optional files that add custom or extreme weathers that might not appeal to the Vanilla+ crowd (that I am a member of).
I believe this is bug free.
After asking lots of people and finding some that I trust not to make stuff up: inappropriate weathers, like thunderstorms on the Moon, are apparently a vanilla bug. I have never seen it, with or without Royal Weathers. This mod should not make that bug more likely to happen.
I was spending a lot of time and energy trying to figure out what I could have done to get those few bug reports of inappropriate weathers; I believe those are the super rare 0.01% of people who encounter the vanilla weather bug.
The encounter and proc gen tweaks are a very subtle upgrade over vanilla. I will push the further improvements I wanted to make to other mods.
Load Royal Weathers early in your load order so that future mods that make more ambitious changes to these settings can overwrite. These are very lightweight changes.
Removed one erroneously included setting. I wanted to ensure that hazardous weathers weren't accidentally killing NPCs-- but that wasn't how it works. Bethesda just spawns a ton of corpses that never had a chance of being alive either way.
- I'm happy with this mod and ready to call it Version 1.0. Future major updates will likely be optional files that add custom or extreme weathers that might not appeal to the Vanilla+ crowd (that I am a member of).
-
Version 0.98
- Improved performance of .ini tweaks. Updated mod description to include more.
-
Version 0.97
- New ULTRA config posted highlights:
-Stars visible in the sky through morning hours.
-Improved water reflections.
-Improved wind.
Extended dawn and dusk by one hour, similar to Skyrim weather mods. I will upload an optional to revert this change on request.
Removed Sandstorms from Akila and Concept Art Akila Enhancer. They looked weird clipping through the thick walls of Akila City compared to other buildings/PoI where they have generally looked fine.
Reduced rain chance for Savannas. (They rain in vanilla as well, putting chances back closer to vanilla).
Note for when Creation Kit comes out: I feel like the rain looks a little too blue in Savanna biomes. Could be fun to mix some more hues in.
- New ULTRA config posted highlights:
-
Version 0.96
- Reduced the chances of a specific encounter.
Removed the last encounter from the Vanilla patch. :(
- Reduced the chances of a specific encounter.
-
Version 0.95
- Removed some settings that weren't significantly improving the experience to enhance compatibility.
Reduced # of overland ship encounters by moving their spawn radius closer to the player. Testing Venpi's amazing mod has given me countless hours of planet loading to test these lol
Thinking out loud here, if anyone can help: I think what we really need, especially for ship landings, is a setting to delay things from happening the second a cell loads.
Pushed proc gen settings closer to vanilla.
Removed most space encounter increases.
I'll do an "Encounters and Worlds" mod eventually with lots of options for these things, but I want to ensure the values in Royal Weathers are an ideal upgrade from vanilla for all players.
Removed a setting that could potentially have contributed to a CTD on Unity (Thanks Venpi!)
- Removed some settings that weren't significantly improving the experience to enhance compatibility.
-
Version 0.94
- I strongly suggest installing Venpi's Open World Cave Overhaul if you don't mind that it is in beta. Between new weathers and new alien encounters, I'm having so much fun exploring.
https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/8050
Significantly increased weather variety for some locations by changing 10% chance weathers to 5% and adding another fitting weather. One location even has five 1% chance weathers.
Added custom weathers to all Kreet and Vectera locales. Working toward a goal of making all 'unique' planets worth slowly exploring. These planets already had unique weather that suggested a better atmosphere and more survivability than other, similar planets. These should now be some of the cooler locations in the game, as Bethesda seems to have intended.
Removed sandstorms from snowy regions. Replaced "default" clear weather in snowy regions with default "party cloudy" weather. The max brightness clear weather didn't look great with the snow in some settings.
If you ever see me patch out a weather you enjoyed, let me know ASAP before I forget which version had it. I'm happy to post an optional file like "Sandstorms on Snow" if there is demand, and it easier for me to make while the old version that removes it is still on my HD. =)
Restored some weather settings to vanilla values, as I could not definitively prove that the changes I made were beneficial (saved those values to tweak more when I feel more confident in how they work).
Pushed proc gen tweaks slightly closer to vanilla for a few settings.
Properly restored missing vanilla flags to a few systems to reduce space encounter chance or remove human settlements. I intended that to be there the whole time, I must have lost a revision at some point.
Added Optional "Weather on Pluto" for those who want to see weathers on a planet without atmosphere. (I did my best to make it look fitting and cool for when there is a lore-friendly planet I can do this to.)
- I strongly suggest installing Venpi's Open World Cave Overhaul if you don't mind that it is in beta. Between new weathers and new alien encounters, I'm having so much fun exploring.
-
Version 0.93
- Found and removed some weathers where they shouldn't be.
-
Version 0.92
- Tweaked volcanic biomes to slightly reduce vanilla rain chance; makes more room for new embers weathers.
Added Concept Art Akila Enhancer
Changed many biomes that were using one specific weather to instead use the "list" for that weather, which should enable significantly more diversity by letting the game pull from a list of all non-unique rains.
- Tweaked volcanic biomes to slightly reduce vanilla rain chance; makes more room for new embers weathers.
-
Version 0.91
- Removed a potential cloudy weather from planets without atmosphere. Reverted these planets back pretty much to vanilla while I test more.
If you want to see some sandstorms and clouds on moons for the novelty of it, use version 0.9 or go explore some moons before updating. That's the only change.
If anyone has any ideas on if there are any moons where it'd be immersive/lord-friendly to add fun weathers, let me know. I've been desperately looking for an excuse. =)
(I must have gotten lucky and had the cloud-free variants of weathers I put here spawn until now. I'll figure out which exact ones are cloud-free so I can get the subtle color and other variations I had wanted.)
- Removed a potential cloudy weather from planets without atmosphere. Reverted these planets back pretty much to vanilla while I test more.
-
Version 0.9
- Posted at version 0.9 because there might be some larger tweaks I make based on feedback, and features like a "lite" version are not yet implemented.
I sincerely try to make sure things are perfect on release, but this is a big mod and I could see myself just not posting it for weeks and weeks if I don't rip the bandaid at some point.
