About this mod

Adds a new datable NPC named Riley to Pelican Town. Complete with seasonal outfits, a custom house, festival locations, a spouse room, hundreds of lines of dialogue, and more.

Meet Riley! They're a genderfluid young person who has recently moved to Pelican Town from the big city. Friendly and upbeat, they'll be eager to befriend you right away, but if you're looking to date them, that may take a little more effort.

As I haven't been active in years now, anyone who wants to has my blanket permission to update Riley to current and future patches:

  • Don't add dialogue or events unless necessary. For small things, do your best to stay true to their character and try not to add wholly new stuff. If you really want to add something, message me on Discord for approval of ideas. (I don't want to publicly post my tag, but you can find me in the main SDV Discord or the East Scarpe Discord with the display 🌸 SG 🌺.) If anyone does that, I can add a list of creators who have been approved to this page.
  • You are free to add compatibility for other mods as long as they respect the character (i.e. don't remove their fluidity or change lines, etc) and they aren't dialogue heavy or you get more direct permission as above. Mods that include minimal lines as part of the function (i.e. a "Let's go!" for something like adventuring together) are fine.
  • You are free to add quality of life or cleaner coding things, such as truly randomizing their gender day by day.
  • Check if there's any current version before making one of your own, of course.
  • Translations are also always allowed.
  • Giving them a different house or putting their house in a new area is allowed as long as you make sure events still work or rescript the movement to work.
  • Additionally, custom portrait mods are always allowed for them, so long as they stick to their basic features and overall vibe. These can be included in updated versions of the mod as a whole or standalone.

🥺 A big thanks to everyone who has enjoyed and continues to enjoy them over the years! I know I fell out of playing SDV but I really am delighted every single time someone reaches out to me still to tell me they appreciate my silly little character.

Install


Compatibility
  • Works with Stardew Valley 1.4.5.
  • Should work in multiplayer but all players must have them installed, of course.
  • ✔ MissCoriel's Unique Courtship Responses is compatible and recommended, but not required!
  • ✔ Optional files are included for compatibility with Custom Kissing Mod and NPC Adventures. Both are recommended but not required!
  • ⚠ Not tested with other custom NPCs. If the schedules conflict with anyone, let me know!
  • ⚠ Now tentatively compatible with SVE! Potential schedule conflicts may exist; let me know if you find some. However, everything should properly load and not be in the way on the map.
  • ? Possibly incompatible with some maps that edits the area between JojaMart and the Blacksmith, since that's where their house is.
  • ✔ It IS, however, compatible with Karmylla's Immersive Map and Stardew Valley Reimagined 2, as it loads the patch after these map edits and the area isn't too different so it patches in fine. :3

Heart Event Guide
YOU MUST TRIGGER THEIR EVENTS IN ORDER, excluding their 6-heart event which isn't required for later events. Other requirements are listed below.

2-Heart Event - Enter the Saloon between 5pm and 10:30pm.

Riley will greet you, then ask if you're curious yet about their gender. If you correctly assume they're genderfluid, they're pleased; with any other option, they explain that they are and a little more about their general feelings toward gender. No matter what, they'll then ask what they are right now. You can answer or tease them that 'what they are' is slightly drunk. The conversation moves on, and the event trails off.


3-Heart Event - Enter Sam's house at any time; you must have seen Sam's 2-heart event.

You find Riley listening to Sam and Sebastian practice, saying you must have given the band good advice. As Riley is leaving, they stop to talk to you, but are distracted by an announcement about some singer named Alanna on the radio. They leave, and you follow them outside. They confess Alanna is their older sister and that they had wanted to be a famous singer too, but failed. You help them cheer up, though.


4-Heart Event - Enter Riley's house between 7pm and 10:50pm

It's just Netflix and chill, that's it that's the event lol. But in all seriousness, Riley invites you to watch a movie, and afterward makes a pass at you. If you don't immediately reject them, they'll invite you to stay the night, which you can do or turn down. As long as you don't reject the initial flirting, though, you can actually sleep in their bed from then on if you want.


6-Heart Event - Enter Town between 9am and 4pm on a Sunny day; you must NOT have completed the Community Center or Joja Membership!
[WARNING: This is a LONG event; it can take around 10 minutes to complete. If playing Multiplayer, either do it earlier in the day or have a mod that pauses time.]

You find Riley, Sam, and Abigail setting up for a LARP session, and are invited to join. Riley helps you make a character, giving you options for class, background, and personality. After that, you, Riley, and Abigail face off against 3 villain encounters played by Sam, and one of the traits you chose will give you a unique option each encounter. There are two chances to "fail" depending on what you chose, but no matter what everyone has fun.


8-Heart Event - Enter the Bus Stop between 7am and 2pm on a Sunny day

You find Riley walking through the Bus Stop when something alarms them. Soon, their sister Alanna approaches from the direction of the bus. You can either lie for them or encourage them to talk to her; while the latter annoys them, neither has an effect on friendship. Alanna and Riley wind up talking and learning some things about each other, and Alanna reveals she's come to ask Riley to do professional art for her. The player can encourage Riley in a few different ways. Riley accepts the offer and seems to make up with Alanna.


10-Heart Event - Part 1 - Exit the Farm House on a Sunny day that is NOT a Festival.
Riley will be there and ask you to come to the beach later.

10-Heart Event - Part 2 - Enter the Beach between 5pm and 11pm on a Sunny day that is NOT a Festival (can be the same day as part 1)

Riley has something they want to tell you, but can't seem to get it out. They sing you a song Alanna helped them write, but trail off at the end. You can react in one of a few ways to encourage or discourage their feelings.

Notes
  • For ease and consistency of coding, their gender is always male on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday; and always female on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday. I know this isn't realistic exactly but it gets the idea across while being able to keep the events consistent.
  • When talking about them in the comments, please use they/them pronouns to represent the flexibility of their gender. Thank you!
  • Their wearing a bikini and wedding dress even on days they identify as male is intentional. Riley is very comfortable with themself and generally prefers dresses to suits for formal attire.
