Just to let you know: if you notice a glitched terrain texture in Eloni and in subsequent maps, check my bug report. One file seems to be invalid and removing it solves the issue. Thanks to the author for such an amazing mod, playing this old game with those textures is really refreshing.
I copied it into my main game directory, but it seems nothing has changed. GoG version. The options are set to Very High in every aspect, and can't change those, that is the only difference.
Especially when I just want to save the game it crashes. The error messages are inconsistent, but once I got "Out of video memory", which is ridiculous as I got twice as much video memory as the textures themselves are big altogether. RAM and CPU are either way too much for video gaming, but I also record, edit and convert 4K videos so that's the main reason for having such a stupidly overpowered rig. However, I am playing on 4K and used the x4 textures as recommended.
Switchting to the x2 textures fixed all issues and I guess the upload on Steam are either just the x2 textures.
It seems the x4 textures are simply too much for this old engine. Therefore I recommend to use the x2 textures.
I'm trying to install it, but it doesn't seem to change anything? I'm probably doing something wrong, maybe someone can give me a hint :) I unpacked the folders "textures" and "cursors" into the installation directory. Is it correct? Or do I have to do something else?
Yup, that should be enough :) On which resolution do you play the game? Which version of Spellforce do you use (1.54, 1.61; Steam, non-Steam)? If you have the Steam version try the beta and subscribe to my mod via workshop. Sometimes that solves the problems.
Thank you very much! Always nice to see one of of my all-time favourite games getting some love. <3
The mod works great (playing with the optional HD terrain textures), but it sure is heavy to handle for the system. I got 2 cores constantly pegged at 100 % (i9 10900K @ 5.00 GHz all-core) when playing The mod doesn't seem to impact the GPU at all though, but I'd be really surprised if a RTX 3080 struggled with SpellForce 1 anyway...
I haven't seen any flickering anywhere, that you mention in the description, but I have serious stuttering (definitely a CPU issue caused by the old game engine). But I have a question: I have tried HD resolution mods before (I think the current install is a clean one - GoG version), plus I have a modified config.lua to play at 1440p / 2560x1440.
Do I need to make any changes to the .lua to get the HP bars and text to display properly, or is that not relevant for the mod? I also play in windowed mode, else the left and right screen goes black, which I think is part of the problem.
EDIT: Playing on Windows 10 Pro, game version 1.54 (1.61 hasn't come to GoG yet). 64 GB RAM, 3200 MHz.
Glad that you like it :) And thanks for the information about the specs. I ran the game again and it looks like I overestimated the GPU load. I also didn't see any real CPU spikes and 4 threads were being used (Ryzen 5600X). Not sure if the problems are Intel related but I remember that newer GPUs and drivers sometimes cause problems. Maybe you'll find a solution in the Steam forums or on Discord. As far as I know, my mod does not intervene with the UI in a way that would mess it up. The HP bars and text are a bug in Spellforce before 1.61 if I recall correctly.
Nope. This mod works without additional tweaks. However, it needs decent hardware. To track this problem down: Do you use a clean install of Spellforce? Which version? Have you tried the Steam version? Do you use the x4 or x2 version of the mod?
Nevermind,I subscribed to your mod on Steam and it works withouth a hitch now.Thank you. Now if only we would get the script mods to work for the latest version, ugh.
Since I don't own an Nvidia card, I can't say for sure, but as mentioned in the readme, SMAA can be injected via InjectSMAA by Mr. Haandi. Multisampling should be possible via DSR - Factors in your driver control panel.

8xSSAA is enabled via driver or by the injector?
thx

Got a beefy new pc so it's definetly not that.
