High Res Textures
This mod is basically what the title describes. I really love Spellforce so I tried to max out the engine as a personal project. Therefore, I did a x2 and x4 AI upscale of almost every ingame texture. However, x2 is pretty much the highest resolution that the game engine supports while keeping the relative resolutions. Most of the results look decent but sometimes the colors get slightly changed. If you find major visual issues, please leave a comment and Ill look into it.
Feel free to delete any textures you dont like. It wont cause any damage.
Requirements
Youll need a mediocre graphics card (e.g., AMD RX 580 or Nvidia 1060) to get 30-45 fps.
The minimum recommended resolution for the x2 version is WQHD (2560x1440), for the x4 version it's 4K (3840x2160).
Installation
Just unzip the folder to your Spellforce directory. Enforce 4x SSAA (for 4k) or 8x SSAA (for WQHD) via your drivers to avoid heavy texture flickering.
Optional
- Install the vanilla figure textures or the landscape textures by Koharan from the 'optional' folder.
- Use SMAA and via InjectSMAA by Mr. Haandi combined with 2xSSAA for low end graphics cards. However, the visual quality is noticably worse than with SSAA as there are visible jaggies on some edges. 8xSSAA and no SMAA still provides the best visual quality.
- Enabling NTFS compression (rightclick-->properties-->advanced-->compress contents) for the texture folder saves almost 25 % of disc space without significantly longer loading times or performance impacts.
Compatibility
This mod should be compatible with every game version (though its only tested on 1.54 and 1.61) and every mod that does not interfere with textures.

Known Issues
-
Changelog
0.1
- initial release
0.2
- Please remember to reinstall any texture mods after this update.
- Re-Upscaled several ui_bgr textures as they had a coloring issue. Now they look slightly oversharpened but IMO overall better. Still searching for an ideal solution.
- Removed a lot of background images as they had unfixable color issues after the upscaling. Also they didn't profit from upscaling as they were behind menus.
- Deleted several 'textures' (mostly alpha channel reference files) where upscaling didn't provide any benefit.
- Managed to properly upscale the landscape textures and included them. Don't forget to install HD textures terrain after this update again if you want to keep it.
- Re-Upscaled a lot of textures which should fix several issues.
- Fixed a bug regarding the minimap.
- Upscaled cursor. Not sure if it makes a big difference though.
0.2.1
- Hokan Ashir had a weird face. Fixed it by re-upscaling the hero faces.
1.0
- Added missing textures.
- Changed landscape textures in x2 version to x4 as this provides a noticable improvement without significantly impacting performance and file size.
- Provided a x4 upscaled version for most textures (except UI and several building and some building/figure textures that would've been too large). The visual improvement is small and most notable on 4k resolution. However, this comes with a significant increase in file size (x3).
- Added optional x2 upscaled landscape textures from the 'HD Textures - Terrain' mod by Korahan. They look very nice but sometimes use significantly different colors.
- Added x2 and x4 upscaled textures (many player and player unit textures) from the 'Spellforce Re-Texturing Project' by Goldfinch. His textures are now used by default as they look better than the vanilla ones. Vanilla textures are still available in the 'optional' folder.
1.0.1
- Fixed a transparency bug only occuring in the x4 version.
