About this mod

A simple Vanilla+ adjustment to most of the ice in the game (Excluding Solstheim because it's too annoying to change). I adjusted the multilayer parallax levels to help make them a bit more noticeable (This is the parallax in the base game, NOT the ENB parallax), as well as other small changes.

This mod adjusts almost every static ice mesh in the game. (Solstheim excluded). It is very much a Vanilla + adjustment and uses the base textures or your own textures, so results may vary. I only took some real creative liberty with one set of cave pillars, and the frozen chaurus/falmer (details below)

This started as a simple enhancement to the base games ice meshes to just enhance the games multilayer parallax (Not ENB parallax, that is something completely different). As I was going through all the meshes, I found a number of things I wanted to adjust and correct.

Vanilla Friendly adjustments include:
  • Most ice that utilized "multilayer parallax" has been adjusted to make the parallax effect more pronounced. This includes all the ice you see out in the world as well as the ice caves. Screenshots really cannot show this, so you'll have to check it out yourself in game. (Again, this is vanilla parallax, not ENB parallax)
  • Many meshes were flagged as "double sided" where appropriate. This may help reduce lighting seeping through on rare occasions.
  • All meshes now cast shadows (mostly icicles were missing this)
  • Collision was adjusted on all of the icicles (exterior and interior), and a couple of random bits of ice.
  • Vertex Colors were removed from a number of meshes. Mostly the ice and snow piles. In my opinion, it helps these meshes blend better with the landscape and removes the horrible and abrupt color changes that were visible.
  • Forgotten Vale icicles and ice wall meshes were adjusted to make them consistent. For some reason, Bethesda made some of these with multilayer parallax and different lighting. I adjusted them all to be the same.
  • Ver 1.1 Update, adjusted lighting effect on icicles to help reduce their glow at night and in certain lighting conditions.

Adjustments that slightly deviate from vanilla:
  • CaveIcicle meshes have had their lighting, color, and meshes adjusted. I always found that the "'backlight" option for these meshes never seemed to work properly resulting in the icicles looking almost muddy. These now utilize the "soft light" option. With my new adjustments, they look more white and more closely match the icey bases they are often attached to in caves.
  • CaveIPillar meshes have been adjusted to differentiate them a little. In the base game, Bethesda made 3 varieties of icey pillar. 1 set was the bluish variety of ice, while the other 2 sets were white ice and identical to each other. I adjusted one set of these white ice pillars (the lesser used set), and added some multilayer parallax and slight texture tweaks. The result is that they still look very close to the original pillars, just slightly unique.
  • FrozenChaurus and FrozenFalmer meshes are my biggest deviation from vanilla. I absolutely hated how these looked like silvery-blue statues in the base game and just didn't make any sense to me. So, I separated the icicles from the meshes and adjusted their coloring to more closely match all my other caveicicle adjustments. I changed the texture path so they now actually have some color and detail to look more like the actual things they are. And the biggest deviation from vanilla was splitting apart the Falmer meshes and make their lower half encased in Atronach ice, just like the Chaurus version already was. Now they all match!

For the most part, Solstheim ice was avoided because I wanted it to retain its unique look, and it was just beyond my knowledge trying to figure out how to make changes work for it.

The following have had their changes incorporated and are safe to overwrite:
-Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch
-Unofficial Material Fix
-Static Mesh Improvement Mod - SMIM
-Lux and Enhanced Lights and FX (these were just split meshes which I also split myself to match these)
