Would be nice if this also work for picpocketing

      That'd be an unbalanced mess.

Seriously, this should count for pickpocketing, i'm sick of having to drop my items just to use the "setownership" cheat on them. Does it work if I drop the item then pick it up?

Look for the swag bag mod, the bag removes stolen tag from the stolen/pickpoketed items.

One thing that can be considered a bug in this mod is that when you drop an item that was marked as stolen in your inventory and then you take it back while no one sees you, it removes the stolen flag, which can be easily exploited. Better Stealing doesn't seem to have this issue

      costThreshold = xxx

Not a bug at all. It is up to the player to deside the cost of item to add.
      Default is 500

The only mod with this purpose I could get to work, and it worked instantly. I suck at modding so having an easy to download/ widely compatible mod is very convenient, thanks.

I encountered a strange bug. When I picked up the arrow that fell on the ground, the steal in my game's statistics would increase.

I came here to report the same thing.
Any projectiles fired by my character or by followers were counting as stolen items for statistics when picked up.

It also counts the arrows (or crossbow bolts, if you're using a mod that distributes crossbows) that the Solitude guards use for archery practice, but the guards don't react if you take them.

Update: fought some bandits. Their arrows count, too.

Cool, I've been looking for this!
Neither Better Stealing nor Mum's the Word works with  AE 1.6.629.
    This one does!
    Thanks.

Will the MumsTheWord.json file from the original mod work with this mod, so we can remove the tag from more expensive items?

No, you have to use the toml file that comes with this mod for configuration.

Incompatible with Sure of Stealing? Cheap items still appear as stolen when using both mods.

It kinda sounds like it's doing the same thing. So probably not.

Fudgyduff made the Mum's the Word based on  Better Stealing , so this mod ( Mum's the Word NG ) will be kinda redundant if the Better Stealing works for you.

When you say "so long as no one notices" it's NO ONE, even the passing chicken near Riverwood smithy. On an early game I tried stealing some supplies near the forge and if the chicken is looking my way the fruit of my larceny gets tagged.
(even with the "sneak eye" closed).
It would be nice to filter out the npc tagged with doesn't alter stealth meter.
anyway, thanks for you work !

Does it work if you add it to an existing save? Like if you already have something in your inv flagged stolen? Also.. How do you know if it's working? I have pocketed a few things and still nothing..

It doesn't work retroactively. It only hooks into the function that adds the stolen flag and makes it not do that for certain items. You know if it's working by checking if the items you steal still get the icon for being stolen or not.
