There are male and female versions of the enemies/merchants at your disposal. The name of the male merchant is Za'rjo, a Khajiit. The female Dunmer Arvyn buys and sells your stuff. They can be summoned by equipping the Ring of Trading. If you need someone to fight with, just summon either a male Nord bandit or a female Imperial bandit using the Ring of Sparring. Both rings are craftable at the forge.

You don't like smithing? Mods like QUI or Simple Mod Item Spawner let you add the items to your inventory directly.

You can hotkey the rings for faster access. Just mark one of the rings as favorite in your inventory, switch to the quick/favorites menu, hover over the ring with your mouse and hit one of the numeric keys. Pressing the assigned key in the game, the hotkeyed item will be equipped/unequipped automatically. Alternatively, you can use for example Extended Hotkey System.

List of features:

  • buy/sell items and fight whenever you want
  • customizable merchant gold
  • when you re-enter the trading dialogue the gold will be refilled automatically
  • use the merchants as wastebin for unwanted items (how to: just set merchant restock setting to "On Initiate Trading" in the MCM or use the following console command: set SESMmerchantRestock to 2)
  • the spawned bandits and their gear will level with you
  • the enemies use equipment from mods if the mods alter the default equipment leveled lists for bandits
  • modify the health, damage resistance and magic resistance values of the enemies to adjust their difficulty individually
  • the merchants can be recruited as followers

The merchants as followers:

They are not counted as normal followers because they are running on their own custom follower framework. Arvyn and Za'rjo will not comment your actions, the surroundings, etc., and will only answer your commands. Enjoy the landscape in company undisturbed.

Adjustable settings:

Customize many settings like the merchant gold and the status values of the merchants and the enemies (health, stamina, etc.) via:
  • console commands (see in-game manual "SESM Global Variables Manual" which is also craftable at the forge)
  • MCM (mod configuration menu). The initialization of the MCM can be tricky sometimes. That's why I recommend reading the MCM section in the FAQ.
  • or quick config using the SESM.txt (separate download under Main Files). The instructions are inside this text file.

Which version of the mod should I use?

The "Delocalized" English version is for all users regardless of the game's language. If someone makes a translation of my mod, download the "Localized" English version instead (Main Files).

I've written an in-depth tutorial about creating translations of SESM using xTranslator ("SESM Localization Tutorial") which is available as a separate download as well (under Optional Files). Contains: Part 1: Voice files, Part 2: String files, Part 3: MCM, Part 4: Wrapping up

Possible bugs:

The user StarShowMaster reported that the enemies run out of breath quickly. If this happens, set their stamina higher via the MCM or quick config. Or summon them again.

According to new findings, the automatic merchant restock also happens with the default and the ring setting of SESM when you load the savegame in a new Skyrim session. You need to load the respective savegame twice in a row to get the state of the merchant inventory from the previous Skyrim session back.

Installation:
Copy all folders (and the bsa) and the "Spawn Enemy and Summon Merchant.esp" into your data folder and activate the esp. Activating the esp is possible e.g. in the main menu of the game (Start game -> Mods -> Load order -> check the box). Alternatively, you can use Vortex (beginner-friendly) and Wrye Bash (has some nice gimmicks like creating savegame profiles). Both tools are available at Nexusmods.com.
SkyUI and SKSE (Skyrim Script Extender) are additionally required, if you want to make use of the MCM of SESM. But these mods are not mandatory to play Spawn Enemy and Summon Merchant.

Please make sure that the correct version of the SKSE for your game is installed:
  • Skyrim version number 1.5.97 (Pre-AE): Current Special Edition build 2.0.20 or higher
  • Skyrim version number 1.6.353 or higher (AE): Current Aniversary Edition build 2.1.5 or higher
How to get the version number: load your savegame, press Esc to open the main menu and click on System; the version number is displayed in the lower left corner.
