    It's been far too long since the last release.  Thank you real life and work etc etc yadda yadda yadda.  I suspect things will just be slow going from here on out.  meh.. typical mod author almost has a life stuff.  You've heard it all 1000 times before I'm sure.  Anyhow.. 

    Fixed a couple issues with the quest and added a modest dialogue update I hope y'all will enjoy.  Though while uploading the update I noticed a potential issue that could block some of it.  Figures.  That will be fixed in the next update sometime down the road.  Still, I'm pretty happy with the dialogue that was added.  Also, redid all of the quest audio.  It sounds SO much better.  

    As always, I will continue to work on Bowen for a long time to come even if the updates will sometimes be slower than I'd like. 

    The below spoiler is staying until I have more dialogue.  It is the quick and dirty way to marry Bowen.  Or rather to elope with.  There is a lot of relationship stuff planned including a new wedding scene etc but that will probably be 1.1.0

    In order to marry Bowen during this release you need to get his relationship score up to at least 85.  You can check the score on his Stats page in the MCM.  

    To raise his relationship score you need to go through the conversations about Love and Religion.  You will also need to start learning the Dragon Language.  There is one topic in there that will initiate 'romance'.  Once you've done that, you will unlock 'About our future together' under 'Can we talk' where you'll be able to elope. 

    If you just don't want to wait you can use the following in the console.  set bb_relationship to ##  I use 70 to start unlocking dialogue but you can use anything really.

    • Fix: Bowen would react to the Kolbjorn word wall before it was uncovered.  This one will require a new game.
    • Fix: A temporary debug notification was firing.

    Anyway, thanks for checking this out.   As mentioned in the description Bowen is not in a finished state.. his current features have been tested and should work but please report anything that seems like a bug.  I especially want to know about mod conflicts.   Thanks.

    One of my greatest aspirations for Bowen is to do dialogue with other followers like Inigo and Lucien.  In fact, I'm game to work with pretty much anyone in this regard.

    Known Recent Issues & Fixes
    Resetting Bowen using the Uninstall option in the MCM seems to mess up his map tracker.  Unsure why.
    Promises to Keep: Bowen needs better behavior.
    When using a mortar & pestle Bowen seems to take awhile to break out of the animation (which he does).  
    Bowen seems to be leaving invisible alchemy stations everywhere.  Fix in testing.
    Bowen will teleport custom followers who don't use "WaitingForPlayer" Fixed?
    Progress learning spells can reset under certain conditions. - Under investigation.  Possible Last Seed issue?

     Greetings jaghar7,

    First and foremost, I would like to start by thanking you for creating Bowen,I enjoyed his personality and commentary especially his translation of the word walls , overall he is a fun addition to my adventuring crew, thank you! As such, I would to request permission to port him to xbox ,you would be fully credited and a link would be provided to the original mod. Furthermore,  I would like to request permission to upload separate 1k and original resolution versions to give potential user the choice between file space and quality. Thank you for taking the time to read my message and I hope to here back from you soon.

      Not yet.  I personally don't use horses all that much in my game so it hasn't been a high priority.  I do have an idea or two though.  I plan to get around to it eventually.  He won't start with one and there's a good story reason for that so getting him one will be its own story/quest.

    I'm having a minor issue with a notification I keep getting when Bowen is in my party. In the past I would occasionally get this notification "Dialogue stopped by talking or follower in scene" but it didn't happen that often and I mostly just ignored it. I figured it was something from Nether's Follower Framework.

    But after I reach the point in the College of Winterhold quest where I talk to mirabelle and she gives me the key to get into labyrinthian, the notification starts firing off constantly. Like every few seconds. If I tell Bowen to wait somewhere it stops. If I dismiss him it stops. But as soon as I bring him back into my party it starts up again. And if I load a save before that point it's not happening, only after I have that conversation.

    I thought maybe it's an NFF issue so I tried telling other followers to wait instead but it keeps happening unless I get rid of Bowen. I gave him an NFF ignore token a while ago to make sure it wouldn't interfere with him, but could this be some incompatibility with another mod I have? I like having him around for the word wall translations and how he stops followers from fighting. So I'm hoping this is something I can fix.

    Edit a few hours later: So I told him to wait in the College courtyard and went to go do the rest of the quest. Came back and tried to talk to him and I couldn't dismiss him or tell him to follow me. So I saved and quit, reloaded the game, told him to follow me, and now the notification is gone. ?????

      Let me just start off by saying, it's totally harmless.  Just a debug notification.  It SHOULD be disabled by default.  Basically, it's meant to keep Bowen from talking over other followers or NPCs during a scene.  

      Ok I see, the problem is where I put the notification.  Apparently, I failed to take it out, but the conditions are if the player or any of the followers are "talking" or involved in a scene.  Of course, if Bowen is waiting or dismissed, it's not checking.  If the notification is firing outside of those conditions, I can say with certainty that's on the game.  I will take it out next update. You don't need to see that.   Thanks.

      Okay, thanks for the update. It didn't seem to be doing anything to anyone, but it was annoying. And then for it to just randomly stop was also weird. I don't know about coding or programming though, so I figured maybe one of my mods was causing an issue. Either way, love the mod!

    man, finally got a breather to sit down with this mod and play a bit with it. only just downloaded it, but looking at the description, if everything said is true, this mod is a god sent miracle. i can't imagine the amount of time that went into coding this. you could have spent that time stuffing him full of meaningless quips and one-liners, but you didn't. you are a selfless author, and i greatly appreciate the effort put into this. can't wait to start my journey with bowen!

    Edit: Dialogue about Soldiers and their orders was great. Didn't expect that at all. Excellent work!

    Hi, so I just realized when going through the MCM menu that i forgot to reinstall to register the Scarlett mod as I had added it later when making my mod list.  Am I able to just switch it to true in the MCM?  Or do I have to reshuffle/restart my playthrough?  I just exited Helgen, so it's not too bad, it's just that it's my 10th try at a run today and nothing buggy has happened so far.

      It should auto detect on its own.  Even if it doesn't, the patch only allows Bowen to recognize the merchants.  So it shouldn't be a problem.

      Once your relationship score gets high enough you'll get a dialogue option to ask if you can help with anything.  It'll happen on its own if you spend enough time with him.  If you want, you can check the Relationship score in the MCM under Stats.

    Looked about in articles, and had a quick browse here in comments, never saw my issue, and an issue I does has.... 

    ....Bowen's quest became accessible. He just randomly walked in from the wild, to a custom house I have (Honeyside), which I had never even taken him to.... and once I did a double take and was like wait... er... that's Bowen? Damn.....   I walked over to talk to him, and got the option to ask if needed help with anything, or something like that, or comment that he looked like he did maybe.

    Groovy, his quest fired off, we went to the place the first thingy is at, found the item, took it to a person who might be able to make something of it... the one in the cold place, not the one in the stone place.....all fine. He tells us come back in a couple of days....  gravy.....I go take down some ruffians and put Mjoll in bikini armor because I am a perv, sue me... and then get the message to return to see the fella about the thingy...... and....

    ....no dialogue. Like, he has dialogue, I got some radiant quests for that faction off him.... but nothing to do with Bowen's quest, or the thingy we brought him. Just nothing at all. 

    Appreciate any help with any fix anyone might be able to offer up.

      You're going to have to be more specific if you want help with an issue.  This is going to be true pretty much anywhere you go.  

      What exactly, did you give to whom exactly?  "Thingy", "place" and "person" are not going to cut it.

      It was the Ancient Nord book about the Dragon sent in to the Sky or something... found in Labarynthia.... I took to the Orc who runs the Library in the College of Winterhold, and he said leave it with him. We did, went off, did some things, got a message saying the mission to allow him time to decode the book was complete, return to him.... I did, and then, as stated... nada. Nothing. 

      No option to get the translated book off him. Bowen did not talk to him (walked right past him, and traded with two other instructors though... effing AWESOME he does that).... there is just nothing happening on that count, and no way to progress, you know what I mean? Like no dialogue between he and I, and Bowen not doing anything in relation to that either. Just ... nothing.

      Ok so Urag isn't returning the translation.  Let me have a look at that. 

      The topic should be "What can you tell us about the book we found?"

      So what I would do at this point is open the console and.. 

      sqv BB_Quest01

      Make sure that ReturnToRef is pointing to Urag and that the quest stage is 300.  If it's stuck on 250 then you can try setting it to 300.

      So that SetStage worked to enable the dialogue, thanks heaps. 

      Urog gave me something, though I missed what it was he game me. I am not sure if there is meant to be a dialogue to give it to Bowen though. In my game there was none, but I am assuming I just keep rolling with Bowen a bit and then the option to find another book will come up?

      Oh yes... I saw that... he said a couple of people... I should have paid more attention.. BUT I am pretty sure one was a rare kind of Elf who avoided being.....betrayed.

      Sweet. I did not know where to go, I will grab him and head for that guy.

    So when I looked at the description, it says he can be dismissed to any home or Inn... does that include Mod homes? Also... how? I had him roll with me for a bit.... we got some basic chit chat out the way, told me his story kinda thing. I gave him a big ugly pack full of things.... because it is obvs perfect for a porter/logistician... and badass armour, silvery mail under a long open coat, plated gloves, shod boots... and big hat.. a hat! 

    I thought we were bros now. I mean, I gave him a big hat, right?  How are we not bros!!!!

    But when I had no option to set his dismissal locale, and when I dismissed him to 'home' hoping that would mean he could consider the place we were in the moment home... cos it's a nice home (Skyfall Estate)..... he sat down a moment.... then got up, and left the house.... and poofed. Showed up on the map at some inn over the mountains. 

    It is kinda important to be able to collect your followers in a small collection of dedicated locations... and I definitely do NOT want to have choose between running after him every time I want to have him tag along, or keeping him with me ALL the time...I run 15+ custom followers, they all need some 'screen time' you know? 

    So really wondering how I make him live in one place? Do I need to spend more time with him and get to know him better?

      I posted an article on how to assign him a home..

      If there aren't enough dialogue options that improve your relationship (it's probably still a bit slim) you can open the console and use

      set bb_relationship to 80

      Spend enough time with him and the relationship value will eventually top off at 70.  Some dialogue options will increase it further or you can try finishing his quest.  

      I'm currently in the (admittedly slow) process of working on more dialogue.  There will be more options then.  You can see the current relationship level in the MCM under Stats.

      Are OK... slow going it seems... he's been rolling with me for about five hours play time now, done some delving, offered to decode some dragon language, and research Mirak.... but he still has no chat options, even when relaxing some place, for any other dialogue than 'Heal me between fights' and Nevermind...   Nevermind used to be "Tell me about yourself' or something... I we first met... but I exhausted the get to know you chit chat after a few moments.... and he's had nothing since. 

      I am assuming I need to roll with him a fair while before he begins to open up, or give me options to do things he offers (he offered to read Dragon for me... but no option to came up yet)? 

      For now all I can do is tell him to heal me, go one ahead, show me his inventory, set some travel rules... and change his clothes... maybe.. I think. 

      I might have to console it eventually... I have too many follower mods to play forever with he, but I will plod on for now, thanks.

      Until recently I've been focused mainly on features.  Next updates will have a lot more dialogue.

      His dialogue is cool. After I sent him to do a resupply.. (a new option which appeared just a bit after I wrote my previous reply)... I also then unlocked some of his dialogue. He seems pretty cool.. a kindred spirit if you will... at least in so much as I can tell based on his ideas about religion and marriage, and his take on the best outcome for the Skyrim Civil War (he might be the reason I pick a side.. the Imperial one... for the first time ever, in every other playthrough, I NEVER do the Civil War part of the game.... so that is saying something). Just the fact that he is likely going to make me do something in game I never have before, despite being a WIP mod to some extent, makes him a fantastic addition to my game!!!!!!

      I guess now I have that simple conversation tree unlocked, I am getting closer to him, which rocks. I do not think I have come close to exhausting his dialogue, I was just faced with much of it being locked because I had not met the affinity prerequisite yet hehe. 

      Mind you, I am currently desperately waiting for that one Vilja level MALE follower....

      ..... because Lucien is cool and I love him, but his awkward 'teach me things because I live in books not the real world' thing feels like it disqualifies him from being like.. your 2IC on adventures with a group. Hoth could fill that role.... if he wanted to... but he evidently does not want to... he just wants to talk smack, and lay the pain on the bad guys, and rebuff any bromance with gruff half sentences... even though he is still awesome AF. Love Inigo too (though kinda really want his V.3 completion to be a thing), but his reserved nature and specific conditions for engagement feels tad limiting. Kaidan is great, though a little creepy when his romantic side comes my way, since I am middle aged hetero dude bwhaha, but he is all about Thug Life and laying down the kickass on one hand, and answering his questions about his mommy and daddy on the other, and his attempts to be cultured are endearing, but undone by his self deprecation. For an Argonian with a 'Servant' mentality as fitting his role a Telvani Lawman, Xelzaz is pretty damn awesome, but still has that element, even though I love him.... and more... he talks to everyone.. not an issue... but for his doing it with the women....

      ...and the women? Man.. rolling with any combination of SDA Serana, Auri, Remiel, Sofia and even someone as new a Daegon, or old as Vilja... the... girl talk ...as I am finding right now in this playthrough....reaches almost terminal levels of .... ewww... :P :P  Even taking one of those names out, and adding one of the Vanilla women, does not help most of the time. Strong women supporting each other.... YAY... I am all for that... but three way conversations about each other, and food, and love and whatever? HEY B*TCHES, I AM HERE YOU KNOW... you know.. they HERO of this story? :P (I know you can limit most of those named ladies, in how regularly they talk.. but who wants that... I just want them to talk to me, or about things a guy might want to listen too :P (I love all those followers of course, this is not ragging on them any more than the dudes ). 

      ....so any expansion of Bowen's dialogue and character, any feature additions, will be more than welcome from this users end, for sure, especially since when you bunch many of the present, established, top tier followers on here together in a party, one cannot help but feel one needs something of a buffer and back up, between they and we, lol. So yeah, I am all for that being Bowen... so far, from our engagement, he seems to be the closet thing I have found in male follower to that guy who is going to have  that perfect combination of the best of the vanilla followers; Mecurio's confidence and personability, Erik's open eagerness, pinch of Illia's mystery, Mjoll's sense of right and wrong, all things after talking to him, at least as much as I could, I was reminded of.....so look forwards to seeing where this fella goes between now and completion of the mod. 

      He is really great, well, tbh he needs a haircut.. :P.... but aside from that he has already made a seriously massive impression, just through his opinions and philosophy, and his usefulness. I think he could come to be pretty damn EPIC, and I cannot wait. What a great bloke to have around.

    This mod looks very interesting, I like the video clip, and having a merchant travelling with me would be extremely useful!  But... is there any way to make his translation of the dragon language optional?  It's just, it breaks immersion with other mods I'm playing.

      Just don't ask him to translate anything for you.  He doesn't do it unless you ask. 

      Technically he's not a merchant himself.  He interacts with merchants according to his needs.  So if you give him certain things he doesn't need he should sell it when it gets a chance.  Or buy things he needs if he has the coin etc..

    Not sure if it's not just me, but I can't seem to make Bowen wear anything at all even with the equipitem cmd, even his outfit management doesn't show up to give him any armor or clothes, all the dialog is there though just doesn't seem to pop up.

      Ok I know what's going on..  duh..   I probably forgot to include the scripts that are attached to the dialogue.  ARG!  I'll fix that today.  Thanks for bringing it up.

      Ok update is in.  Sorry about that folks.  I made so sure the main script was in, I completely forgot about the dialogue. lol  Hopefully nothing else got left out.  

      So, the reason you couldn't get Bowen to wear anything is because the main outfit script was equipping his default gear since no 'outfits' were assigned.  When you use the dialogue to assign an item, that items get added to a list.  No list, no outfit.
