This mod replaces the drawing and sheathing sounds for 1 hand and 2 hand blades, doing away with the "grinding metal" vanilla Skyrim draw sound.

It works for VR & VRIK Player Avatar's Holsters feature (what it was made for) as well as SE and AE. No ESP, so it won't take up a mod slot in your load order.

I recorded my own katana (like, a skazillion times) into my digital audio workstation, and then manipulated the length of the sounds using the Tempo feature of Audacity, which alters the length (but not pitch) to match the timing of the action in-game, for both VR drawing ("by hand" with VRIK) AND using the button (which has a different timing than VRIK drawing).

In order to preserve the dramatic "click" at the end of sheathing the katana, I cut that part loose and only edited the tempo of the blade sliding inside the wood of the scabbard, and then pasted the 2 together, testing the timing in-game to make sure it lined up (repeating this process many many times, over the course of 2 days, lol) until I got it right.

While it's made for katana, it should be appropriate for just about all swords really, as the video up top would seem to suggest. They all sound "woody". They all "clack" when sheathed.
Now we know.

VRIK Player Avatar specific:

*This is the generic uneqip sound that VRIK uses for sheathing. If you're on SE/AE and don't want it, you can delete it from the archive itself before installing, or the mod's Vortex folder, or from Data\sound\fx\itm\generic\weapon\down to default back to the vanilla sound effect. No biggie. Don't know when the game ever uses it anyway.

I didn't do daggers, but if anyone would like me to try to manipulate the pitch/tempo to make one, LMK.

I also just added the original (good take) uncut/untempo'd recording of me sheathing and drawing a few times, in case anyone could use the raw sound for a project or something. It's in the Misc. Files section.

Issues:

Only one really, with VRIK/Skyrim VR only. After all those hours of tweaking and testing, when I went to actually go and use the mod, I discovered that when I holster my bow, it makes the sword sheathe sound too. *shakes fist*

Honestly, the *clink* sound VRIK uses when sheathing isn't bad at all, so if the issue above bugs you (I'm gonna live with it (Edit: That lasted about 2 days before I nuked it), unless I can fix it eventually, and then I'll update the mod) you can follow the steps above to get rid of itm_generic_weapon_down_01.wav. At least it worked out well for the SE/AE folks. The drawing sound was really the point anyway, but I figured I might as well go whole hog and do both. Plus that click, when you sheathe, is so damn cool...

Katana mod I use in game, in case you're curious:
Japanese weapons SSE

I use the Fudo Myoo katana as my regular sword (same as in the video), and the Fudo Myoo tachi on horseback (it's the same, but longer) as well as the Japanese weapons SSE - less powerful katanas v1.0 under Optional Files (so it's not crazy OP 1-hit kills). Probably the prettiest katana on Nexus.
