I have always loved the idea behind "Lantern Caretakers" (originally by MannyGT for original Skyrim, then ported to SE by ToosTruus). It added an element of realism and whimsy to my game. When Lanterns of Skyrim II was released, it went a step beyond the original by including its own lantern workers add-on. And it included a workshop near Solitude, where one of the workers lived and puttered about when not on the job!

For me, however, I wasn't happy with the workshops (LoS2's main page states more than just the Solitude workshop was planned). While a fantastic idea (especially for immersion!), I didn't like the addition to the worldspace. For something that is (for me) a fun and whimsical addition to my game, I didn't see the need. And should I later find another mod I liked that conflicted, I'd have to choose between them. :(

Hence, "Lantern Caretakers of Legend (for Lanterns of Skyrim II)"! They're all back: Lisa, Francesco, Gina, Aldo, and Cecilia! Ready to take up the burden of lighting Skyrim once again!

With generous permission from both MannyGT and ToosTruus, I have converted "Lantern Caretakers SE" for use with "Lanterns of Skyrim II" (which is a requirement for this mod). During the process, I was also able to fix a few problems I found.

The .esp file has been flagged as an .esl, so it won't count towards your mod limit.

A couple of things you may want to know:
  • When not actively working at lighting their lanterns, each caretaker spends his or her time in an inn in the city they work for.
  • If you play with "Enable lanterns along roads" disabled, the caretakers will not appear in the game.
  • If you play with lanterns "Always OFF", the caretakers will not attempt to do their jobs, they will just hang out in the inn.
  • Each caretaker is part of the guard faction of whichever city they work for. If guards attack you on sight, so will the caretaker.
  • After lighting her lantern, Cecilia makes her way to Riften via the north gate. If you have not yet had the guards unlock this gate, she can't get in. (Oddly, Aldo doesn't have this problem at Whiterun.)


Compatibility
I've tested this alongside my other LoS II mod, Lanterns of Skyrim II Insects Patch, and they appear to work together well. I prefer to have this mod after the Insects Patch in the load order (right pane for MO2 users), but it doesn't seem to matter either way.

Regarding v1.11
The only change in this version is that the Windhelm caretaker (Francesco) now wears armour with sleeves (it gets cold out near Windhelm!). This was done with Cutting Room Floor - SSE in mind (which I recommend). However, I have tried this version with nothing else installed (except SkyUI), and it seems to work just fine. At a minimum, I suggest using the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch, as it includes fixed meshes for the armour in question.

OVERVIEW
========
Many of the users of "Lanterns of Skyrim - All In One" mod asked me to make a "caretaker" about the lanterns.
Well, I did it. This mod add five new NPCs: Aldo, Francesco, Lisa, Gina and Cecilia. All NPCs are the Lantern Caretakers.


CONCEPT
=======
Firing up all the lanterns is quite expensive and impossible. For example, Gina, the caretaker of Markarth, would take some days to lit up all the lanterns!
So the concept is that you will watch the scene of the last lantern to lit up by the NPC and so he goes to the nearest inn.


AI PACKAGES
===========
All the NPCs have the same behavior:

1. Going near to the lantern to be lit
2. Firing up the lantern
3. Going to the nearest inn


HOW TO TRIGGER AND WHERE ARE THE SCENES
========================================
To trigger the scene you must pass near where the caretaker will light the lantern, between 7pm to 11pm of every day.




INSTALLATION
============
You need the Lanterns of Skyrim II mod first or you'll get Instant-CTD.
You can use NMM to install or you can do the manual installation by unpacking the files to the data folder of Skyrim SE.
NOTE: Make sure to enable the "Enable lanterns along roads" option in LoS2's MCM menu.
NOTE: If you have Provincial Courier Service installed, load Lantern Caretakers BEFORE Provincial Courier Service.

Loadorder should be:
Lantern CareTakers
Provincial Courier Service


UNINSTALLATION
==============
Open console and type:
stopquest mannyLTQuestWhiterun

So be inside an interior, like an inn, house or dungeon, wait for at least 6 hours.
Do a new savegame, exit Skyrim and remove the ESP and BSA files from your hard disk.
