14 November 2021 -- Today I tried a new physics plugin called Faster HDT-SMP. While some people have reported bugs/crashes, it is working for me. I have been testing the AVX2 version. It appears to be 2 to 4 times faster than the older plugin.
This mod uses SKSE. If you allow the update to happen, it will break SKSE until such time that SKSE can be updated. There is nothing I can do except to suggest to everyone to avoid allowing the update to happen on your computer until after SKSE is updated.
My understanding is RaceMenu also uses SKSE. RaceMenu determines wig color.
Since you seem to be away, I took on me to post an update to your mod with a few patches and conversion to ESL. Feel free to look at it and include the changes (or not) in your next update. I will remove after the original mod is updated.
All Concerned. I'm kind of new at this SSE modding so please don't be to harsh. So I had an issue with hair color, all being black, especially with Bijin's Mods (Lydia to be precise). I used SSEedit to change her hair color. 1. open SSEedit 2. load all mods. 3. Find the mod (in this case BijinAOI.esp). 4. select that file and apply filters displaying "conflicts" (or something to that effect). 5. look for NPC's, hit the expand option, 6 find the NPC, scroll down to the face info. Look for hair color, double click on the block, a warning will come up, hit yes, look for the desired hair color, in the mod. and select. If you dont like the change, you can go back and change it. It will only affect the character you change the hair color to. I hope this helps some of you! Cheers!
Yes, it appears you correctly changed the wig color for the NPC.
Please be aware that wig color is determined by Racemenu. A problem arises if 2 NPC's are in the same cell with the same wig but with different colors. Both wigs change to the same color. I can't fix this because it is over in the Racemenu mod. I don't know if it can be fixed in the Racemenu mod either.
I tried this with Serana on SSEedit, changed the value to TrueBlack on a mod I had to replace her appearance. Saved and exited but it made no change in game the wigs were still blonde? Any suggestions I know im a little late to this thread lmao
Wodo. Thank you for your efforts in creating this mod. I have had serious issues with KS wigs, KS hairdo's, and the Bijin hair physics. Im not talented enough yet to use bodyslide, or Racemenu for NPC's in game. (I will learn eventually). I have a concern, It doesnt seem like I can choose colors? Can this be edited in SSEedit? Thank you for putting a picture of the hair. Seems the other mod porters got lazy. :) Thanks again for the mod! Cheers!
I works great to change hair for npcs that already have smp hairdos, but I'm having an issue for other npcs. Whenever I select a hairstyle it will appear for a second or two and then the original hairstyle will replace it.
I noticed that, too. For example with the mod "Slave Girls by hydragorgon SE 1.0" over at LL. Does this have anything to do with the load order or is it a specific mod mechanism?
I don't know what the Slave Girls mod does. But it is related to a sex mod, which suggests the removal of clothing. Wigs are technically helmets. Therefore, my guess is you have a mod that is trying to protect against the removal of whatever wig that mod added and it is that mod that is forcing the original hairstyle to return.
If my guess is correct, there isn't much I can do about it. That mod's author might be willing to change the behavior of the mod. (All I could do is the same thing, force the wig back on and that would create a "war" between mods where everyone loses. Sorry I don't have a better answer. I suggest finding that mod's author if possible.)
Thanks for the explanation. Sound reasonable. Here's another one where the wig is immediately removed again: I use Bijin - Your Bodyslide Mesh and Texture and Immersive Amazing Follower Tweaks and whenever I try to place the wig on follower Lydia, it's immediately removed again. Maybe because of iAFT's outfit management?
On other non-follower Bijin NPCs, I can place the wigs and they stay for a certain time. But not forever it seems. When I get back into a town with supposedly changed Bijin NPCs, they are back to their default hair. What could be possible triggers?
@Terenzz, by default hair do you mean hair supplied by the Bijin mod or Bethesda's vanilla default? If you mean supplied by the Bijin mod, then I suspect that mod has a script that ensures the NPC keeps her hair/wig to prevent her from having the vanilla default.
If it's just what I (finally) worked out, AFT can be set to hide helmets out of combat, the wigs are headgear, so this also hides the wig. Set helmets to always show, and so does the wig.
(Don't ask me how many mods I added and removed and tools I ran before working this out!)
I can't figure out how to get NPCs to keep their wigs permanently--everything works great until I leave the cell and come back. Is this happening to anyone else?
I've only seen it happening to with Arivanya of Windhelm but I haven't played the game "for real" for several months because I'm been working on NPC replacers. (Lately, I've only been playing the game to test.) But that doesn't mean that you aren't having difficulty.
First, I tried to reproduce the problem. I went from Whiterun into the Guard Barracks near the Front Gate. Found a female guard with vanilla hair and chose a Cambrian wig for her (short wigs menu). That worked. Then I went out into Whiterun and then back into the Barracks. She still had the wig. If that works for you, then can you tell me what doesn't work for you. If, in your game, she loses her wig, it is probably one of your mods.
If the guard keeps her wig but a different NPC loses her wig, it would be helpful to know which NPC. (I realize it is many but if you could name one, hopefully an NPC that is easy to find such as one in a major city, that would help.)
So far I've tried it on random girls in Whiterun (Olfina Gray-Mane, Saadia, Ria from the Companions). The wig will stay on if I leave and come right back, but if I go do something else for a bit, it's unequipped when I come back. I can still see it sitting in their inventory, but they're not wearing it. Since no one else is having this issue, it's most likely a mod conflict but I have no idea which would be causing it. I don't have any mods that touch Olfina for example (as far as I know).
Before downloading the wig outfitter, I tried your Saadia mod and ended up with the blackface bug, even when I moved it to the bottom of my load order (that's actually what prompted me to get this outfitter, so that I could put it on her myself ). I think I might be in too deep with too many mods to diagnose the conflict, so maybe I'll just work around the unequipping issue with AFT's follower outfit management lol.
A few ideas. First is to download More Informative Console and use it to determine the last mod that touched Saadia. You might be surprised. It could have been touched via modder error.
Another idea, since you expressed a desire to do the work yourself is to download the Creation Kit from Steam. A simple thing you can try, after installing the Creation Kit, is to fire it up and use my Saadia mod as the active file. Then click on the 2nd Actor word and then enter Saadia as the search filter. Then click once of the Saadia record followed by CTRL/F4 and save her facegen data. If you still have a black face after that, you have a mod causing the problem. Note: I had problems with Nura Snow-Shod long ago. Before I started publishing NPC's, I modified my own with static hair (back in L.E. / Oldrim). I did that again in S.E. but I couldn't find a way to change Nura. (Something was overwriting my changes.) I don't know what happened but later, she had my changes. Might have been me starting a new game or it might have been me getting rid of the conflicting mod.
Finally, on my Ysolda page, I wrote an article that gives a draft quality guide for what I did to make NPC's with physics wigs. You could read that, use the Creation Kit and make what you want.
Can confirm I'm also having this issue with wigs not permanently staying, however I am using High poly NPC overhaul (all vanilla NPCs) an that mod assigns every NPC a wig in game, so its probably a conflict with that. I was fixing Delphine and the Bannered Mare Inn-keeper in white run's Karen-looking-ass hair, and I later returned and found the hair back to how the High Poly NPC overhaul made it, I may be able to use xedit to alter the overhaul mod if I could ever figure that out. One thing I have noted though is that if the person is a follower, their hair doesn't change back as long as they are following you, I've tested this on Lydia. This mod is below the overhaul in my load order.
I've been doing some testing using Wodo's Automatic KS Physics Wigs for Guards to try to find a solution for this issue. Slow going because of real life and other projects (which is also helping me to learn more about scripting and the Skyrim Papyrus engine).
Mod works as intended- if you're looking to take photographs that is, otherwise leaving the same cell as the NPC in question will reset their inventory and leave you puzzled when you return to see them again- quite annoying unfortunately.
Hello, thank you for the mod! It works great until I leave the cellar where the npcs with the wigs are. The wigs disappear after a while. Also, when I go for a sexlab scene, the wigs stay on during all the scene, but disappear after the scene end
Hey thanks for the reply. I already tried that thing and also different patches, but nothing seems to work. The wig stay on until the npc leave a cellar or after a sexlab scene :(
Curious, would there be any way to make this available for men as well? There are several patches which turn the hair unisex, and I would love to be able to style the men's hair as well!
I tried one of the "unisex" mods a while back but I though almost all the wigs looked silly on men. But I agree that it would be nice if there were hairstyles with physics enabled ponytails for men. Learning how to make physics wigs is a skill I would like to have but by the time I have enough time to learn enough, Elder Scrolls VIII will be out...(or it feels that way).

You could try one of my NPC replacer mods to see what effect that has in your game. A couple tests (so you might want 2 mods).
There's a partial list of my NPC's mods at the bottom of the description of my Ysolda ?replacer mod.
Note: I listed 2 tests and I suggest you do both because the results will tell us 2 different things.

Wodo's Automatic KS Physics Wigs for Guards
It only works for guards. But that approach works for guards then it could be used for other problematic NPC's.
