I'm responding like a year too late, but just on the off-chance that you're still having this problem, a patch exists now: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/86808. :)
Thanks SO much! Spent hours with other dialog changing mods and they either had the NPC responding to something I did not select, already used text that you could barely see, or the text was all scrunched up so that it was unreadable. I used this in LE but for some reason had a hard time finding it for SE/AE. "Clean, Simple and it just works" is right!
I have been using better dialogue controls - that mod contains only one file which is being overriden by this mod here (dialoguemenu.swf (24.6 kB)). Does Your mod make BDC obsolete or do I have to choose one? Thank You!
One thing that BDC did that this doesn't is it fixed the issue where you sometimes click on a dialogue option but the wrong choice is selected. I really miss that fix. But I also like having the dialogue menu moved to the left. I wish I could have both.
Vicious, many thanks for the update. I swtiched to the DIR as well. Although I can't recall ever having gotten a wrong dialogue choice here. Might have repressed that though.
Oh good. Because I was thinking of getting this, but I really really hate Oblivion's NPC camera with the zoom in effect.... Thanks for letting me know, I appreciate it.
While in a conversation, pressing spacebar toggles the time element in the upper right. According the .cfg file, this should only happen when pressing "Insert". Any idea what's up or how to disable?

I did find this mod that does both, in case anyone's interested: Dialogue Interface ReShaped. So far it seems to be working well.
