Version 2.0 (ESPFE) available! I've decided to convert all my mods to ESPFE (ESL-flagged ESP) versions wherever possible. This means these mods will no longer take up a slot in your load order. Please follow the instructions below if you wish to update during a running game. If you're starting a new game, just install and enjoy.
I've also decided to only offer BSA versions from now on. If you need or want a version with loose files, download the Bethesda Archive Extractor and just extract the files from the BSA.
To update during a running game:
While in the game, create a Full Save (Not a Quick Save).
Quit your game to desktop.
Disable the old version of the Vala Amatius Makeover in your mod manager.
Restart your game.
The game will tell you that the OPs Brotherhood of Old - Vala Amatius Makeover.esp is missing and ask if you wish to continue. Just hit Enter (should automatically be on Yes).
Create another Full Save (NOT a Quick Save).
Quit the game to desktop.
Enable the new version of the Vala Amatius Makeover.
Thanks for this! It looks great, and I'm happy that you kept to her design instead of making her a supermodel like a lot of other makeovers, IMO it looks a lot like the drawing of her on the main mods page and I love it! Question though, would it be possible to put up a version with her original hair?
Sorry, Solora, for the late response. But thanks, I'm glad you like the mod. And you convinced me. I was going to describe how you could change her hair yourself, but it took me about as long to do it and upload it to the Nexus. So it's there in the Optional Files section, and it's flagged as ESL, but it requires the non-ESL flagged Main File to work. Enjoy!
The fur is from the Silent Mist armor from the Apachii Divine Elegance store. I used the black narrow fur. The armor is the one she's wearing in all the pictures (most just without the fur). It's the Dark Brotherhood shrouded armor, but one of the Book of UUNP versions, and I'm using the black version of the Dark Brotherhood HD Armor Retexture (Oldrim mod). You can also see the fur in the 7th image. Here are all the links:
This looks really good, but why did you remove the NPC from a bunch of factions and change her confidence level, among other things? I wish you had kept the changes strictly to appearance, or at least mentioned the additional changes in the description. Kind of annoying when appearance mods try to do more than that.
Okay, so I just checked in SSEEdit, and I didn't change any factions or the confidence level. In the original Brotherhood of Old mod, she has confidence level Brave, which I left alone, and she's in the following four factions:
DarkBrotherhoodFaction "The Dark Brotherhood" [FACT:0001BDB3] WEPlayerFriend [FACT:0001DD09] TBOPotentialMarriageFaction [FACT:040DA369] TBOMarriageCourtingFaction [FACT:040DA36A]
None of these values were changed through my mod. If they are changed in your build, it must be from a different mod.
It must be that we're using different versions of TBOO. The version I have, which is the latest version, has her as a follower in various follower factions, with a confidence level of Foolhardy. Sorry for accusing you of changing that stuff. I didn't consider the possibility that you were simply basing it on an older version of the mod.
Whoa! So sorry, guys. The least I could have done was check if I had the latest version of the mod. It's true, I was basing her off of the 1.0.4 version. But it seems TomTesoro just released a new version a couple of weeks ago. I'll make the changes and put a new version up asap. And thanks for the heads-up!
Youre welcome, its a huge update he made! He recommends on a sticky in the comments to starting a new game, if you are already begun the old version of the quest :-) and thanks for this NPC update!
If you ever consider updating her, would you consider a High poly Head with Expressive Facegen Morphs? She has a lot of dialogue, would work well I think :-)
Okay, so my Vala 1.1 has been uploaded and coincides with TomTesoro's 1.1.0 mod version. Thank you again both, mastehamper and ryanmar, for letting me know.
masterhamper, I'll definitely take a look at the High Poly Head, but it will take time since I don't know it. And thanks for pointing me in that direction! It looks very promising.
Version 1.1 Available I realized TomTesoro released version 1.1.0 of the mod a couple of weeks ago. My Vala 1.0 was built from the 1.0.4 version of The Brotherhood of Old. Vala 1.1 requires version 1.1.0 of TomTesoro's mod. I will leave the old Vala version up under the Old Files section for those who are still using the older version of the TBO mod.
I don't know why you think that the first file cannot be flagged. Compacting the formIDs won't break the characters appearance, and that's all I did to make it work. Certainly looks a lot better than the original, though.
You're right, and I apologize. When I run the script to list all the ESPs that can be flagged as ESL, I've trained myself to automatically ignore any ESPs where the Form IDs need to be compacted. At some point, I'll probably get around to learning how that's done...
Hmmm...okay, I read Obscene911's ESLify Guide again, and he clearly states that ESPs that contain generated facegendata should NOT be compacted. Since this is an overhaul that relies extensively on generated facegendata, I'd rather not do it. But if you got it to work for your build, Kudos!
Here's the link to the ESLify Guide for anyone who is interested:
That advice only applies to mods that add new NPCs, since compacting would change their formIDs and therefore require regenerating or renaming the facegen files. But since you modify an existing NPC, its ID won't change even if you compact the mod, so it requires no additional work.
Okay, let me take a look and see what I can do. I'd certainly like to offer a single ESLisfied version instead of the two I have now. I'll upload an updated version if I'm successful.
I was looking for something like this just the other day, I haven't played the mod yet but I read in some review that Vala looked awful and I was like, hmm, maybe there's a retex. And now there is! Thanks.
Version 1.0 There are two files available in version 1.0. The one requires KS Hairdos SSE (Female version) but is flagged as an ESL so it won't take up any space in your load order. Use that file if you already have KS Hairdos installed. The second file can't be flagged as ESL but doesn't require KS Hairdos because the hairstyle is included. Use that file if you don't have KS Hairdos installed and don't want to download it (it's fairly hefty in regard to size).
I've also included a voice patch for Flower Girls SE and VR. If you use Flower Girls, you've probably seen custom-voiced followers constantly moving their lips without a sound all the while you're kissing (or the other things you can do with Flower Girls). The voice patch gets rid of this problem.
EDIT: I uploaded a few more images of Vala's original appearance, just so no one can say I'm being unfair. Some might like her original appearance better. Me? I'll stick with my new one.

To update during a running game:
Is this compatible with body model replacers? I'm currently using CBBE.
Apachii Divine Elegance Store
Book of UUNP (CBBE 3BBB conversion)
Dark Brotherhood HD armor retexture
Hope that helps!
