Status: - GOG has released an update fixing the version number problem, and SKSE64 is updated. Thanks to GOG for being extremely responsive on this compatibility issue, and thanks for everyone's patience. edit: MS Defender is currently false-positiving on it; I've reported the problem to Microsoft edit2: MS Defender has corrected their problem

Skyrim 1.6.117x Notes Skyrim was updated by Bethesda to version 1.6.1170 on January 17, 2024. A number of changes to key mods must be made to address the updates made by Bethesda for both the Steam and GOG editions:
SKSE must be updated to version 2.2.6 for the Steam edition of the game. GOG users must update to version 2.2.6 for the GOG edition of the game
Use the latest version of USSEP if you use this mod.
Update any dll-based SKSE plugins to 1.6.117x versions. Mods that have not been updated must be disabled.
If using Engine Fixes (or any other SKSE plugin that requires Address Library), Address Library must be updated to the 1.6.117x version. Also make sure you are using Engine Fixes Part 1 version 6.2.
Sometimes it takes 2,3,4 attempts before skse hooks the game and it launches, whether i run it from vortex or directly. Widows controlled folder access is off. Skyrim and all related folders are in AV exclusions already, AMD ingame overlay is disabled as are its hotkey access, Afterburner and Riva are both disabled, Discord not running while i game, gamebar is disabled. Both skse launcher and game are being run as admin. Steam game version 1170, Skse version 2.2.6, skse64_1_6_1170.dll in use. I ran process monitor and it shows that Steam’s own API (and therefore its overlay/input hooks) is grabbing SkyrimSE.exe before SKSE can inject, winning the race and so preventing the game from launching on occasion. Here is the log. Any ideas ?

Vortex decided to stop working with SKSE, the game won't launch using Vortex, only if I open the "skse64_loader.exe" directly. This happened after a Windows Update. I already reinstalled Vortex, SKSE and even Skyrim, the game won't launch from Vortex anymore.
Neeeever mind, found the issue. Apparently it was the "Controlled Folder Access" by Windows defender, windows activated that without my permission because of the update or something. Everything works perfectly fine now.
Ensure that access to your My Documents folder is not acting weirdly (check "controlled folder access") and that you aren't running the game as another user.
everytime i try to open skse it just launches the normal skyrim, i alredy tried to reinstall it at least 3 times, reinstalled skyrim, rechecked, tried to install via nexus, and nothing. idk why its refusing to open
ye it is, it used to work before, it just stopped out of nowhere, first it showed the skyui erro code 1, then i went to reinstall skse and it stopped working, alredy tried to reinstall skyrim at least 3 times. nothing.
1. Delete everything from Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\SKSE to clear out old log files. 2. Run the game exactly once. 3. Open Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\SKSE and paste the contents of skse64_loader.log here inside spoiler tags.
That looks like a successful launch of the game (with SKSE). Why do you think that only the vanilla game is running? If you are getting errors from SkyUI, you have managed to remove or overwrite the .pex files included with SKSE or are not running the game via the loader, or are having some mod manager problem.
i have no mods installed now, but when i enter the game and run the "getskseversion" no command is found, and there is no version of the skse in the options menu. also if i add any mod, nothing happens. yes i am lauching directly from the skse file itself
Requesting a different log file (please follow the instructions so we're getting fresh data).

It shouldn't be possible for the loader to open up the vanilla launcher. Make sure you haven't renamed any of the files or done something weird. Most likely you will need to look for other software you have installed on your computer that is interfering with the launch process. I can't give any great advice for that given some of the weird situations I've seen before, but generally it'll be something that tries to run all of the time and integrates with all programs on your computer.
nop, its a fresh install of skyrim, nothing different from when it used to run is running now afaik. only thing i havent tried was a fresh windows install... Before mo2 used to lock the ui when skyrim launches, now it starts and then nothing. its like skse starts, crashes and launches normal skyrim, idk
When you say skse64_loader opens the launcher instead of the game, it indicates that you in fact have not opened Steam first, then clicked on skse64_loader. Good luck, you’ll figure it out eventually.
I gave up trying to get this to work on gog, I've watched videos, I've read comments but nothing works ig i will need to buy this on steam and try it there
I play on steam, and I have had an issue where when I play through vortex, it crashes before the selection screen, but when I play through steam directly, it crashes during character creation (alternate start). I have tried redownloading skse and Skyrim and deleting everything in the plugins folder, but the problem still persists. A warning I got said that the version of skse I am using is version 0. Is there anything I can still try. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
skse64_steam_loader.dll is no longer needed in the current version of skse. ChatGPT is a notoriously bad Skyrim debugging tool. Your skse version must match your installed Skyrim version.
I commented about this earlier on SSE Engine Fixes, but I'm commenting here after being made aware that this is actually a SKSE issue.
I started receiving this error within the past week. I tried reinstalling SKSE and the address library not too long ago, but the issue is still occurring.

EDIT: Forgot to add, I also tried reinstalling the following plugins: Bug Fixes SSE, PapyrusUtil, Powerofthree Tweaks, Papyrus Extender, SPID, BOS, Keyword Item Distributor, FormList Manipulator, Actor Limit Fix, Payload Interpreter, and RaceMenu. The error has been occurring both before and after I reinstalled all of these plugins. I receive this error message every time I click on skse64_loader.exe, though there doesn't seem to be any impact on gameplay.
It’s not a 07e error. Reinstalling the same version of the mods isn’t going to address the issue. You need to install the plugin version that matches your game version number. Google the dll file names in the error to find out which mods they are from.
