    v1.0.0 is released! I've removed the patcher so it installs totally normally now, just choose the right version for you. I added Apothecary compatibility too. Lastly, the books now need to be bought from apothecaries. If you update from an older version mid-playthrough the books won't appear for sale, but you can still add them to yourself via the console.

    Please post below any thoughts, questions or concerns. I try to maintain an active (and friendly) presence in the comments :-)

    So Im having some issue with this mod and Alchemical Loot Boxes - More Alchemy Ingredients as Loot: every once in a while the loot satchel will give me every single book in the series?


    The books are fantastic! Just a weird inter-mod issue. I let them know about it as well.

      Thanks. This stems from how the books are added to leveled lists as a set. Alchemical Loot Boxes must be pulling from the same lists as vendors and so occasionally gets a set too. At the next update I'll switch from leveled lists to just using SPID, that should resolve things.

    Hi!

    I want to use it with Powerful Potions and Poisons - Alchemy Overhaul 
    If I understood it correctly:

    - I don't need to touch the first 8 volumes, since they don't mention effects;
    - volumes 9-13 I'll need to edit DESC - Book Text and adjust it to PPP-AO.

    Is that correct?

      Yes, that'll do it. Hopefully won't take too long seeing as only a few effects are replaced.

      I'll post it in a few hours.
      Powerful Potions and Poisons - Alchemy Overhaul needs Pick Your Poison more than any other.
      Weakness poisons don't wear off until you drink potions of cure poison, sometimes you need a lot of them to nullify the effects.
      So... eating stuff is a reaaaaaally bad idea.

    Thanks so much for the fabulous mod.

    Quick question: If I wanted to randomize which of these showed up at different merchants (e.g. each book has 25% chance of being in their inventory), is there an easy way for me to do that ? Requiring purchasing was great for their integration into the world--I just was looking to make some of the volumes seem rarer than others.

      It can be done, but its a little bit of work. You just need to make some new leveled lists for common/moderate/rare books then add different numbers of each list to merchants. You can do the adding via SPID now, which helps compatibility. I did something similar in my other mod sightseer so you could take a look at that to see hows its done.

      Thanks, man. I've had a look and think I'm 90% of the way there. I think my SPID syntax is very errant. I'm just trying to drop into the Whiterun apothecary to test, but it's not working. I'm way out of my depth here !
      Item = 019D12~pick_your_poison.esp|MerchantWhiterunArcadiasCauldronChest|NONE|NONE|NONE|5
       (where 019D12 is the leveled list with books in it that I added)

      Instead of "019D12~pick_your_poison.esp" just put the editor id of the leveled list. I don't think SPID can add to chests, only actors, so give the book to Arcadia instead of her chest.

      Nice. Totally works. Digging the mod and now I've got an obscure new ability to distribute items, lulz. Thank you !

      Edit: one thing I wonder about is if this method of distribution will refresh / re-roll with merchant chest...

      Great, glad you got it working.

      I also wonder about what happens when their inventory resets - I am not sure. I'm pretty sure their personal inventory resets much less often that their chest though.

    This mod is fantastic! This should have been in the original game. Thank you so much for this gem! I use predator vision too tho, I've read in the comment below but all it will do is add the books so i can wait for the predator vision patch. This is def needed in my game for being an assassin! Thank you! Endorsed. :)

    Oh, is it safe if I compact the formIDs in Seedit and mark the mod as esl?

    The books are not showing on the  Apothecaries  stores went to whiterun and solitude, theres no books. Is their incompatibily with this and other mods?

      Incompatibility shouldn't be an issue, but there is a chance that an apothecary has no copies. Try visiting some more or waiting a few days for their inventory to restock.

    So, a very commonly used mod which is often overlooked by this and similar mods is Predator Vision. It adds/changes some ingredients to give night and predator vision potion effects. Any chance of a patch for your vanilla version and/or patches for combined options like Apothecary + Predator Vision?

    Hiya,

    I installed the mod mid game on AE and a message appeared saying "Pick Your Poison Intalized" but the books didn't appear in my inventory. I used console commands to try "Help PyP" "Help Pick Your Poison" and it doesn't list any books or serials other than one for "pyp_quest" but that doesn't do anything as far as I can tell, and I never knew there to be a quest associated with this mod. It's been a tick since I last used it (ran into problems on SE where only some of the books spawned, so I uninstalled it), so maybe some things have changed. I'm using the vanilla version and it's up to date. Is there a command I'm missing? Does this only work on new saves?

      Hey, the books are now bought from apothecaries and don't just appear in your inventory. This was a very common request, and as you noted sometimes the auto-spawning didn't fully work, so I switched to this approach. Apothecaries will usually have a set or two for sale, though sometimes they won't have any and you'll need to wait a few days for their inventories to restock.

      You still should be able to add them to yourself via the console though, and `help "pick your"` should bring them up. Let me know if this continues not to work and I can double check the commands on my end.

    How do I make a patch for Apothecary - An Alchemy Overhaul?

      You basically need to list:

      • All the new effects created by apothecary
      • All the changes to ingredients made by apothecary
      • Any new ingredients apothecary adds, and what their effects are (though I don't think there are any)
      With this information you can update the patcher - look insider index.js to see how it handles CACO and APFA. This is on my to do list anyway, so if you can wait a few weeks I'll get it done, but you are welcome to do it yourself if you want it sooner.

    Has anyone tried this with the Synthesis patcher? I'm curious to know how it works since I'd imagine it doesn't fulfill the requirement to provide text for the book.

      The zEdit patcher contains all the information necessary to rewrite the book. Assuming the synthesis one is an accurate port then it will too.

      Oh, interesting, even to rewrite the ingredient description? I figured that was too unique to be automated via scripting. I'm not sure if the Synthesis patcher is an accurate port but I will give it a shot anyway. Thanks!

      The patcher includes a list of all ingredients descriptions. These don't need rewriting according to the patcher mode, so it's not that complicated. Only the effects change and thats pretty easy to automate. If you download the zEdit patcher, you can open it up and look inside index.js to see how it all works.

    My Alchemy is my least leveled skill. It seemed tedious and not worth that much, as opposed to other skills, even non-combat ones, like Smithing or Enchantment. Now, this might spark my interest with Alchemy. Thanks

      No worries. I agree than vanilla alchemy is one of the weaker aspects of the game and, above all, just not fun - potions are mostly useless, and foraging is really mindless. This mod helps with the latter and, with a few other mods, I've had a couple of fun alchemy based runs now.
