Eremite: a recluse relying on natural resources and self-improvement through religion or meditation

a thematic Campfire add-on for players looking for one or more of the following:
 
  1. more tent features including follower undress, cloak handling, "shelter warming" for optional "Survival Mode" or "Frostfall"
  2. make permanent campsites more like home by crafting workstations with storage, oven, horse stable, and more
  3. a no-armor character build or druid-like mage
  4. complete wilderness living

New for v2.00:

  • more weapons made from natural sources (antlers, bone, wood, animal sinew)
  • more crafting at camp
  • meditation rug and musing rug - meditate to improve skills and earn perk points

Access perk tree at campfire to view descriptions and requirements. Earn perks by sleeping 7+ hours in a warm tent, fighting without armor (shield okay), or fighting unarmed. A warm tent requires a fire nearby. Look for "Shelter Warming" notification before sleeping. Inside caves or old forts, you may use a bed-roll only (no tent) for "Bed-roll warming" near fire.

Shelter Warming 

  • place tent or bed-roll near fire of medium size (“Flickering”) or larger
  • when entering tent or lie down on bed-roll wait for “Shelter warming” or “Bed-roll warming” notification
  • default base-game tents included for warming, but don’t count as owned for perk bonuses
  • (optional) Survival Mode: wait for sun icon and warm up as needed
  • remove armor before sleeping (see Campfire’s options to auto-remove gear)
  • sleep 7-12 hours uninterrupted

In "Survival Mode" the size of the fire determines how far your tent may be placed which for the largest fire can be quite far. In "Frostfall" the distance is determined by "Frostfall" and is the same distance for all fires.

Getting Started

The full version of "Eremite Camping"  includes all the features above with a built-in patch for "Survival Mode" (optional). The "lite" (patch) version only includes new features for Campfire, Campfire bug fixes, and the "Survival Mode" patch without perks, crafting, or tent warming feature. Remember to backup your save-game file in case you decide this isn't for you.

Eremite Camping and Combat (EremiteCamping.esp)

On startup if your character is level 19+ then a bonus perk in Craft 1 is given. If level 41+ a second perk may be placed at your choosing to help get you started. If you have "Frostfall" or "Survival Mode" then disabling either using in-game options will also disable the Eremite shelter-warming detection feature for your convenience. When you re-enable "Frostfall" or "Survival Mode" then after a few minutes the shelter-warming feature will start back up.

If you have "Frostfall" enabled then Eremite will take advantage of its fire-warmth detection and base-game-tent-detection system and use it to determine shelter warming. This saves your system from duplicated processes. Otherwise, Eremite includes a light-weight shelter and fire detection similar to how "Frostfall" works.

Eremite for Campfire Lite (EremiteCampfireLite.esp)

This "lite" version only includes the new tent features listed above (without asterisk) and "Survival Mode" patch. No perks, no crafting. If later switching to the full version, leave this plug-in activated.


How to hide / display Eremite items in craft menus


  1. Create Item to obtain the Eremite Crafting book
  2. sit on Campfire-compatible bed-roll
  3. read the book

The Eremite Crafting book lists all items and how to create. Read standing to avoid toggle the hide/display setting.




Meditation and Musing rugs




There are several rug styles with some hidden to avoid menu clutter in Campfire's Create Item - Misc. Have 8 mountain flowers of a color within inventory where each flower color represents a style. The default fur rug will be visible without items. For mages having at least one magic skill of adept (50+), may upgrade a meditation rug to a musing rug.

When placing, the rug will conform to terrain, but due to animation limitations works best on nearly level ground. Choose a combat style to improve by having the weapon ready, or none for brawl, and Campfire settings to place items. The weapon placed determines the improvement and how much improvement depends on the Survival Sleep and Meditation perk level. Wait for 6 or more seconds to receive no-armor, stamina rate, and weapon-style skill improvements. Perk points limited to once per day.

  • none = brawl
  • one-handed
  • two-handed
  • bow or crossbow
  • staff = magicka

The musing rug offers choice of combat or magic skill to meditate on. Choosing magic costs one Eremite Incense which may be crafted using Create Item - Misc. Depending on skill level, your character may receive limited-use nature-related spells or ability. Muse again to relearn.

Known Issues


  • Telekinesis spell readied in hand prevents no-armor and unarmed/brawl perks - before sleep ensure Telekinesis removed
  • Like Campfire tents, the Eremite Stable posts are intended to allow walking through
  • Eremite Ice Shell - loot corpse may not display name -- a game issue

  • Follower overhauls: if follower exiting tent dresses in wrong armor then disable Campfire options tent-follower setting

  • "Cloaks of Skyrim" - download the optional patch which also adds warmth for "Survival Mode" (optional)
