SUMMARY

Ever wanted to know what modern battles would look like if they took place in Skyrim? Or what it is like being a lieutenant of a platoon leading your men into battle? Or what is it like to be in command of a tank? Well you've come to right place.

This mod modernizes the Civil War. Soldiers are now armed with guns, grenades, rocket launchers, etc. and wear modern army uniforms.

Both sides now have access to tanks, fighter planes, and artillery.

Hundreds of military squads and platoons will roam the map searching for their enemies, engaging in exciting battles with one another.

Upon joining the civil war, you will become an officer and will now be able to give commands to every allied soldier, and will be able to use special abilities such as airstrikes or artillery barrages to help you win battles. New squads of soldiers or vehicles can be built at forts to build up your army or replace losses. Now you can leverage your tactical prowess to win battles.

Tanks can be operated by the player allowing you to partake in epic tank-on-tank battles throughout Skyrim.

When you walk throughout Skyrim it will literally be like watching an epic war film. The new voice lines, visual effects, sound effects, overhauled AI, and soundtrack all work together create the most immersive and cinematic war experience.

Fight as soldier, lead your troops to victory as a commander, or become a tank ace - the choice is yours.

MODERN WEAPONS

This mod adds a variety of bolt-action rifles, semi-automatic rifles, light machine guns, submachine guns, assault rifles, rocket launchers, antitank rifles to the game. Each gun is unique and provides their own advantages and disadvantages. They will vary in their damage, critical damage, rate of fire, magazine size, reload rate, mobility, projectile speeds, and so forth.

Submachine guns for example are excellent in close quarters due to their high mobility and high rate of fire. At longer ranges however, they will deal less damage and be less accurate due to their slower projectile speeds compared to rifles. Machine guns have the highest damage per second, but suffer from massive mobility penalties, making them better suited for defensive roles.

In VR, you will be able to aim down the sights of each weapon to allow you to be more accurate in your aim. In order for these iron sights to be aligned, you need to have VRIK installed with hand scale set to 1.0 (for accurate weapon sizes), and in your SkyrimVR.ini set (fGunRotation = 65) and (fCrossbowTranslateZ = 0). You can also turn off auto-aim to make your shots more consistent (fAutoAimScreenPercentageVROverride  = 0, fAutoAimScreenPercentageVR = 0). If you have trouble with the .ini settings, try using the Skyrim VR Configuration Tool.

To manually reload your weapons, simply un-equip and re-equip your weapon.

I also recommend using "Locational Damage SKSE VR" so that headshots will deal more damage (I prefer to turn off decapitation and headshot FX for this mod, and setting headshot damage multiplier to 2).

In addition to guns, you now have access to three new types of grenades: antipersonnel grenades, antitank grenades, and Molotov cocktails. To throw grenades in VR, you will need to have Weapon Throw VR installed. I recommend setting gravity to 0.975 and Grenade Speed to 1000.

TANKS

This mod adds a variety of real functioning tanks to the game. Tanks can be seen following and supporting infantry squads throughout the map, and can be operated by the player.

Like with guns, no tank is one the same. Some tanks are better suited for anti-infantry roles while others are better suited for pure anti-tank roles. Some tanks have very strong armor all round while others may only have thick armor in the front but paper thin armor on the sides and rear, making them vulnerable to flanking attacks.

The armor mechanics for tanks are accurate to real life. They are bullet proof and will require weapons such as tank cannons, rocket launchers, anti-tank grenades, or anti-tank rifles to be dealt with. Rounds that fail to penetrate the armor will deal almost no damage. Being closer to the target and firing at the weak points of the armor, such as the sides and the rear, will drastically increase the chances of penetration and destruction of the enemy tank.

TANK OPERATION IN VR

Tank operation in VR requires Steeds of Ultima - VR Mounted Combat.

To aim the tank cannon, make sure that your tank is facing the target, which can be done by moving your controllers until the gun is lined up with the target.

Then look towards your target to mark the elevation of how high/low your tank will be firing, then finally activate your "Fire Main Gun" power to fire the cannon.

If activating the power doesn't fire the cannon right away, it means that you were looking at the sky, and a marker will appear at the direction you are facing which you will have to align with your target and activate the power again to fire.

FIGHTER PLANES

Fighter planes have also been added to provide close air support to infantry sections. They will strafe enemy infantry with machine guns and commence bombing runs on enemy tanks. Fighter planes are typically stationed near forts and may be dispatched by other officers who are in need of air support. Allied fighter planes can also be dispatched by the player upon joining the civil war.

ARMY OFFICER EXPERIENCE

Now you will know what it is like to lead men into combat. Upon joining a side in the civil war, you will become an officer and can give orders to EVERY ALLIED SOLDIER in Skyrim and instruct them to do the following:

  • Follow Me
  • Move to the Destination Point
  • Hold Position
  • Rest Here
  • Retreat
  • Trade Items
You can issue these orders simply by talking to them or by using the new Command Powers which are given upon joining the civil war. You will be given a shout-like power for each of the commands listed above which will allow you to quickly give orders to groups of soldiers in the heat of battle. The choice is yours whether you want to throw waves of your men at the enemy as you watch from afar or will you lead by example by fighting from the front.

As an officer, you are granted new special abilities such as:

  • Call in Air Support (Dispatch 3 allied fighter planes to your position)
  • Call in Light Artillery Barrage
  • Call in Medium Artillery Barrage
  • Call in Heavy Artillery Barrage
  • Heroic Charge (Grant temporary speed and combat bonuses to nearby allied infantry)
If you wish to build up your army further or want to replace your losses, you can build more squads of infantry of vehicles at nearby allied forts. Each fort has their own pool of resources which changes every few hours. These are: manpower, munitions, and fuel. Manpower is used to build infantry squads, munitions is used to upgrade the weapons of your infantry, and fuel is used for building vehicles.

VETERANCY

Veteran soldiers who have proved themselves in battle, surviving while racking up a number of kills will now perform better in combat compared to fresh soldiers with little to no combat experience.

Once a soldier or vehicle scores a kill, they will gain XP, which is a metric used to determine a soldier's level of veterancy. Below are the five levels of veterancy:

  • Recruit
  • Veteran
  • Crack
  • Elite
  • Ace
For infantry, each level of veterancy will improve their damage resistance and attack damage. For tanks, they will gain increased health, faster reload time, higher penetration ability, higher splash damage, and a higher chance of scoring critical damage against enemy tanks for each level of veterancy reached.

The amount of XP a soldier gains when scoring a kill depends on how tough their opponent was compared to themselves. For example, a soldier who was able to kill an enemy high ranking officer will gain more XP than if he killed a regular soldier.

Once a soldier reaches Level 4 Elite Veterancy, you will see them wearing a medal on their chest / around their neck.

SQUADS AND PLATOONS

The function and organization of squads and platoons are very realistic and close to real life.

Infantry squads vary in size, equipment, fighting capabilities, experience, uniform, etc. Some squads may be made entirely of veteran troops while others may primarily consist of inexperienced troops. Some squads may not have any armored support and lack anti-tank capabilities entirely while others may have multiple tanks attached to them and may be armed with a variety of anti-tank weapons.

Squads usually consist of several soldiers and will be led by a NCO such as a sergeant or corporal. Usually a machine gunner will be attached to the squad to provide extra firepower. You will be able to tell a soldier's rank based on their uniform and the stripes they have on their shoulder marks.

Platoons are made up of multiple squads and are led by an officer such as a Lieutenant or a Captain. Officers will provide a damage boost to nearby soldiers and are able to call in artillery, airstrikes, or deploy additional troops or vehicles at forts.

COMPATABILITY AND LOAD ORDER

I recommend you start this on a new game. This is a huge mod, so put it at the end of your mod list. It is compatible with Open Civil War, but not Civil War Overhaul.
