About this mod

Through the power of bruteforce jank xEdit tampering you can now choose between using a paraglider, or *jazz hands* a.k.a the Levitation Gem.

Major props to CultCC, who is the true backbone of this mod. I just hacked their work apart in xEdit, renamed some folder and file names and got something functional out of the other end.

Forewarning: I am very much an amateur modder and have learned 90% of my skillset through trial and error. This is a personal mod I made for my game that I am sharing as-is. I will try to improve it but it may not be possible with my current skills.

Before you download: Understand this mod may never move out of this "1.0" state.

Installation:
  • Install the original mod and all dependencies it has, select "No Contrails" version during installation or you'll see them by your feet when using the Levitation Gem. (not gud enuff modr 2 figger dis one out, open to someone patching or teaching me how)
  • Install Open Animation Replacer and all dependencies it has.
  • Install AnimObject Swapper and all dependencies it has.
  • Install my mod, you do not need the original Levitation add-on by CultCC, but it would be AMAZING if you went and downloaded and endorsed it anyways, because my mod wouldn't exist without theirs.

Load order:
  • Paragliding.esp
  • ParaglidingLevitationAddon.esp

Acquisition:
  • Follow the same quest in the original mod; find Fred, read his journal, go to flight platform, etc.
  • Once you have the paraglider you can swap it to the Levitation Gem at a forge under miscellaneous. You can likewise swap the gem back to the glider if you want.

Compatability:

Known Issues/Other Thoughts:
  • There will be no green visuals, but the animations play appropriately for each item. Probably related to the contrails thing above. A few people (myself included) did not care for the huge glowing green squares effect in the replacer version, so this might be considered a feature. I would like to fix that as I also have a hands-glow-only version I never released, and this mod wipes out all of the effects.
  • Similarly to the above issue, the equip and unequip sounds are still glider, not the hum from the Levitation Gem.
  • Changing the glider to gem and gem to glider does seem to break the notifications "You can now paraglide/You can no longer paraglide", probably because those are based on picking it up off the ground. I did notice the REFID of the paraglider changes after going through the forge and back out (glider -> gem -> glider), so that is probably the culprit.
  • I do not understand scripting well enough to alter it, however permissions on the scripts from the original mod are wide open, so I would welcome anyone that can help fix this.
  • That being said, after a decent amount of testing it does not seem to break anything else, just the notifications. I've changed the glider to gem and gem to glider back a few dozen times and I'm still able to paraglide or levitate depending on which I have in my inventory. I consider the loss of notification box messages an extremely minor issue, but again would still love to fix properly.
  • I suspect most of these are caused by my jank implementation. They are minor enough for me to ignore for now (after spending a number of hours trying to figure it out last night) and use for my game.
  • I built this mod on an existing save so adding it mid-save should be fine. It should be noted I did not have the Levitation replacer by CultCC installed, so I am not 100% sure what will happen if you disable their mod and enable mine. Odds are you will have to spawn a paraglider for yourself but you might just be able to craft it using the levitation gem in your inventory.
  • When in doubt, save -> remove replacer mod -> load/save -> Fallrim Cleaner -> new save, then install. Or just start a new game.
  • Make sure you've completed "Unbound" if using alternate start mods, as one of my new character test runs did not and had issues with the paraglider and gem both not working. IIRC that was a problem with the original mod as well.
  • If none of what I've wrote in this section has scared you away, enjoy!

Future Plans:
  • Fix visual/sound issues and message box notifications.
  • This may never happen but I'd love to invert the Stamina Drain and Tarhiel's Magicka Cost patches when the levitation gem is equipped. So that gliding costs magicka and using Tarhiel's Gale impacts your stamina instead. I think that would be a nice bit of flavor and would really synergize with the build you're likely running if you want to be levitating (high magicka).
