This mod will not be updated anymore; I simply do not have the time to fix the female textures that are broken, and can't keep up with new releases.
Still, this release has a very wide assortment of hairstyles that look great, so hopefully most people will be happy with what I've done. I had a plan to make a separate, standalone download for a more curated hairstyles, but could not work out permissions with Khalilies.
Please do not contact him/her about this. It's purely up to him/her what possible shapes the mod should take, and I'm perfectly fine with that.
In the meantime, I have since day 1 supplied a download link to the hair sample I used for the 500+ hairstyles. With a little bit of photosohp/gimp knowledge (and I do mean very little) you can fix whatever shortcoming you see in this release
If it's not important enough for you to do it yourself, given the tools I have made available, it might not be all that important to you after all
Basically, be kind, do what you can on your own, and if you currently can't, there are many resources available online to learn how. Most of the textures in KS hairdos took me an average of 20 seconds to do, so it was never difficult; just tedious.
But if you still have questions particular to this task, and can't find the answers you seek, you can PM me with a detailed explanation of your current trouble, and I can try to help when I have time for it.
Cheers, and I hope you continue to enjoy this mod (and the original author's work)!
People have been asking for a vanilla replacement using this texture, so I made one.
Version 1.1 is just released, and includes a new matte look (with included normal map) and custom decoration in the form of leather strings and bands that show up on some hairstyles (braids and ponytails mainly)
If you want to use this with the HDT version of KS Hairdos:
1. Extract to a folder somewhere.
2. Inside the folder /Data/textures/KS Hairdo's/ make a new folder HDT. Make a new folder hairline inside this folder.
3. Copy the contents of .../KS Hairdo's/hairline/ into .../KS Hairdo's/HDT/hairline/.
4. Copy the textures for the hairs that exist in the HDT version into .../KS Hairdo's/HDT/. I believe there is a list on the mod's page, or you could open the HDT version's folder/zip file and see what textures are already in there. Make sure you copy both the .dds and _n.dds files from Salt and Wind. There's only one catch - the hairstyle 'Hime' in the non-HDT version was renamed to 'Himiko' in the HDT version for some reason.
Still looks just as good in HDT, even when HDT hair doesn't feel like cooperating. (Except Traveler. That hair in HDT is *hazardous*.)
Salt and Wind - Rough Hair for KS Hairdos SE includes all textures from this mod and the new textures from KS Hairdo's 1.4 and 1.5. Of course it's still compatible with LE. Just manually download it and add it to a mod manager.
Thank you for this!! These re-textures are amazing, and I can't imagine the time it took for you to do all of these.
I did encounter a small CTD issue trying to use this for SSE (someone said it worked fine so I gave it a shot). Every time I tried to select a female in Character Creation, it'd crash... However after a few hours of troubleshooting I isolated it to the 'Snow Gale' re-texture. Every single texture works flawlessly....except for that one. The default KS texture is fine, but the Salt&Wind re-texture causes a crash for some reason. Just thought I'd let you know in case you wanted to check it out!
Thanks so much for doing the legwork to figure out the problem texture, and then taking the time to actually post to help others. Much appreciated. I was really missing this retex too. :)
I tried to use the mod in Skyrim SE as it is, no luck. Crashed to desktop. I've used other mods directly to Skyrim SE successfully. Any idea what might had happened? I want to use salt and wind in my new playtrough, it makes KS Hairdos way better!
For anyone else with this problem:Salt & Wind isn't the problem. Its just texture files. You need to follow the instructions for SE KS hairdos so it doesn't crash to desktop. You need fnis and such.
I get CTD upon opening a new game or with showracemenu command too while using the retexture... which is weird since this is just textures, no meshes, plugins, or bsa's which often don't work with SSE. They're all DDS files which I've used a lot from Oldrim and none of them did anything like this.
You need either racemenu or showracemenuprecachekiller to use KS Hairdos. Otherwise the game will try to load everything at once and your vram is donezo. I don't know about SSE which option is the best there to do that.

My opinion is that it makes the hair more ugly
/love.
Just manually download it and add it to a mod manager.

Thank you again for this mod!!
I currently do not have time to spend on this project, so hopefully you can make it work on your own
There is also the option of using the hair texture I submitted as an optional download to fix whatever shortcomings you feel this version has.
For the moment, this mod should be considered "done". It's really just a replacer, so my ability to shape it to what I want it to be is very limited.
Any idea what might had happened?

Danke sir+End.
