Hey! Thanks for the tutorial... When I try to save, it saves it as a .xcf instead of .dds... how can I fix this?

This. I'm trying Gimp now, and when I attempt to export to a .dds there are a ton of options under "Compression" "Format" "Save" and "Mipmaps". Going with the default export in Photoshop, things are fine. Going with default export settings in Gimp I get an unusable .dds file. I've played around with format and generating mipmaps, nothing helps. Could you add more detail to #19 in your tutorial, "How to export your .dds"?

This might sound like a stupid question but is it possible to keep the original texture too? I wanna recolor a banner and put a new drawing on it for my castle but I don't want that banner to end up somewhere else in Skyrim because it replaced the original one. Thank you in advance.

    "Courtesy of Jahooba"

Weird! I sort of 'invented' this name about 10 years ago. So strange someone else is using it

David, I just wanted to say thank you for this tutorial. It is easy to follow and understand. I've come a long way since Skyrim came out. Your tutorial and the advice of fellow modders has really helped me to improve. I feel like I could retexture anything now!

This is an awesome tutorial by the way, very helpful!

I do however have a problem, I am attempting to recolor some armor, and I have succeeded with the gloves, boots, and helm, but I can't get the chest piece to work for the life of me. I'm doing the same thing I did on the other pieces, but no luck.. Advice anyone?
