Questions that are commonly asked or said in the discussions page
"The latest version of you mod is crashing on start-up!"
As of Version 0.33RBeta, the mod now requires the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch. That will be the reason why.

"Is this mod compatible with 'X' mod?"
Please read the first sticky above as they contain the mods that are compatible with this mod. If a mod is not listed there and before you post a question asking about it, ask yourself "Will this mod, that changes Whiterun's appearance (for example), really going to affect Serana's dialogue?" Don't be afraid to ask. But at the same time, don't be stupid.

"Hi, I obviously didn't read your sticky. Can you please make your mod compatible with a mod that is already compatible with your sticky."
    *facepalm*

"Why don't you add stuff for the Marriable Serana mod or Why don't you pick up the slack since the guy for the Marriable Serana mod is missing (or anything related to Marriable Serana)?"
Because Marriable Serana is NOT my mod. I just 'can't' pick up where someone left off just because their life got busy. It doesn't work like that (I have to ask for permission and all that). And since the last time I PMed the mod author and he never replied back, I have to assume that he is going to do his own thing and doesn't want to collaborate with anyone else.

Plus, if you haven't noticed by now, I am actually not a fan of Serana being married. I know that will shock some people, but Bethesda wanted Serana to care about the player but not actually be able to marry the person. Which is why I am implementing the relationship mechanic that was abandoned by Bethesda but I will not be going beyond what they wanted to do. This mod was meant to expand Serana's dialogue and fix some of her issues.

Therefore, I will only deal with Marriable Serana in terms of compatibility and nothing else.

"Why don't you use audio from other games for this mod?"
Because this violates Nexus' policy on using assets from other games. Porting is not allowed on here nor on most mod sites. There are some exceptions (in particular, assets from CD PROJEKT RED allows all assets to be used for non-commercial use), but that is in very rare cases.

"Why don't you use audio from TV shows/movies she has been in/voiced on for this mod?"
See above response and multiply the trouble I would get from those studios times a thousand.

"Why not ask Laura Bailey to do extra lines for this mod?"
Because I don't have her on speed dial? That and the chances of her actually doing it are silm to none.

"Why not e-mail her? You never know!"
Because I have a lot on my plate already and I want to at least have a full mod finished first before I even attempt going to this route. I will eventually go down this route, but not until I am happy with how for this mod is developed. But chances are that she will probably say no (for various reasons).

"Well, why not pay her to do the voice over work?"
Because of very complicated reasons, that is not an option (especially after the Skyrim Romance Mod incident). So, I am just putting my foot down on this option. All talk about the use of kickstarter or paying for her services will be ignored.

"When is the next version coming out?"
Check my schedule in the description page.

"Is it safe to upgrade the mod from the Old Version to the Redux Edition?"
Yes. There are some notes about the NULL error still existing if you do this. But again, that's on my (the programmer) end and not the user end.

But because I am re-building the mod as I go along, the Redux edition will have some features missing that is available in the Old Version. It will be available in the Redux Edition soon, it just takes time.

I would say Version 0.3R and above is when you can start using the Redux Edition of the mod if you are transitioning from the Old Version. At that point, most of the essential features will be added (minus the custom quest dialogue). Later versions of the Redux Edition will add the custom quest dialogue back.

"When is this coming out for SSE?"
    It's out now.

"When is it coming out for Xbox One?"
    It's out now.

    "This mod altered Serana's appearance!"
    No, it didn't.

    "But-"
This is a dialogue mod... nothing more. This mod does not alter her appearance in any way (unless you count allowing Serana to be cured on the Vampire side as one). I left her appearance alone so you can use the 12,904,113.5 Serana appearance mods that exist.

    "This mod broke Chasing Echoes!"
    No, it didn't.

"Now I KNOW you are lying!"
And I know that you don't understand the concept of testing this mod before releasing it. I have 1,000+ test saves and I know exactly what works and doesn't work with this mod. Dawnguard is a DLC that was very rushed, with a lot of concepts being scrapped for the sake of releasing the mod earlier. Serana, herself, is a modding nightmare with some modders refusing to not go beyond altering her appearance. This is why there are VERY FEW non-texture mods for Serana out there.

But I am also an experienced programmer and engineer so I wouldn't purposely break a questline nor would forget to test a mod before releasing. I do make mistakes from time to time, but I am not an idiot.

    "This crashed my game!"
    How? Also, no it didn't.

"When I removed your mod from my game, the crashes stopped!!!"
Correlation does not imply causation. Explain to me how a mod that ADDS dialogue managed to CTD your game? If that was the case then every follower mod would crashing constantly. Hate to break it to you, but you have bigger issues than some small dialogue mod.

"Will this mod work with Spouses Enhanced?"
After doing some testing, yes it works. As far as load order goes, you can pretty much have this mod come before or after SpousesEnhanced.esp/SpousesEnhanced_Serana.esp in the order.

The reason I didn't put this in the compatibility list is to avoid issues since Nexus and that naughty site isn't currently on speaking terms.

"I have an idea for this mod!"
Check the forums page for ideas.

"Why not have this mod merge with 'X' mod? I don't like that there are a lot of esps for this one person."
Not my responsibility. If you want to merge the mods, learn to do it yourself.

The mod crashes even with the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch.  It wants some FNIS or some such BS to run and I cannot find it to download.  There are a ton of the Mods with that in part of the name but no straight Mod.

This mod doesn't require FNIS (Fores New Idles in Skyrim). FNIS has to do with animations, which this mod doesn't deal with at all. Either you're commenting on the wrong mod, or you have other issues going on. Good luck!

No, this is the LE version for the original version of Skyrim. The SE port should be compatible as far as i know. I do not think it uses SKSE at all.

Although SDA is a good mod I think all the effort was better used instead in making a new companion. SDE though expands on Serana in a more respectful way (I still want marriage though both sides have valid points on the issue). Been following and using this mod for years I think this has the potential to rival SDA with a little more work even though it is almost 4 years old. Hope you come back and update the mod.

Hey, I got this mod while I was deeply in the middle of Serana's questlines, so I guess I couldn't get the relationship points high enough. Is there any way to edit these points via console commands? Or anything not including reloading a waaaay older save file? Sorry if it has already been asked, I didn't see an answer to my question.

It's a shame you have the Unofficial Patch as a requirement. I use several mods that are incompatible with it that are essential to my game.

It was either that or edit the scripts needed and that would have been compatibility patches galore. Can't win them all.

In case you didn't know, with Wrye Bash you can remove this absurd and annoying requirement. Nobody uses the stupid Skyrim Legendary Edition patch mod anymore.

I can tell you that I added this, and the dialogue add-on mod as well for that matter, to my first playthrough, long after the Dawnguard quests were done, and it appeared to work. I eventually lost that playthrough for totally unrelated reasons.

Actually going to ask this as a separate question from my reply to Target. I figure I'm more likely to get answers from you guys than I will in the drowning torrent of the SDA comments section.

So, who here has played with both SDE and SDA enabled? Recently? How do you find they compare with the 1.9+ updates? (i.e. once SDA added a romance system).

I have NOT played with SDA, but my impressions from watching some content videos of SDA are:

    - The original version of SDA had voice acting where Kerstyn was clearly trying to emulate Laura Bailey/Vanilla and did a pretty good job at it, but newer dialogue added by SDA seem to be much looser about the voice. Is this correct? Was there a clear turning point for this?

    - SDA seems like it has become much more of a "mass market Serana". I mean... sure we all mod Skyrim how we want, so fair enough, I won't judge. And I get that Martimius is not trying to make it "his" Serana necessarily, that instead he seems to run a lot of polls and he gets a lot of Patreon funding, so his choices seem to mostly reflect what the majority want and are literally paying for; and that's unsurprisingly a drinking buddy fucktoy cool-vampire-waifu. Oh, and with meme 4th wall jokes like Star Wars prequel gags (WTF).

It all seems kind of clueless. In the SDA FAQ, you can tell people complain that Serana starts to feel romantically attracted to the player too quickly and easily and Martimius cites a university psych paper to justify Serana suddenly getting the hots for the player after one (in-game) week. Who does that? IMO, that honestly sounds to me like the reaction of someone who has no clue about actual people or actual relationships. Okay, maybe I am judging a bit.

I mean, maybe I'm wrong? I hope? But besides the improbably easy romance and chronic drunkenness, there's also apparently a thing in SDA now where Serana really badly wants to f*** you when you go to the ancestor grove?! WTF?!

    ========

When SDA came out, it seemed very deferential to SDE, trying very much to be faithful to it. It was more filling in the gaps of what TGY hadn't gotten to yet. And I liked that, because I like SDE.

SDE features a relationship between adults, who may not be normal, but aren't cartoons either. Trust isn't just some named miniquest (no, really, that's a named subquest in SDA), it's something that affects the whole of the character interaction. Trust is earned through positive reinforcement, reflected in most of the dialogue. It's consistent and very gradual. Like Inigo, it meant Serana had a lot more depth, even if she didn't have a huge quantity of added dialogue, and while commentary about more things and interactions with more characters is great, and obviously helps bring characters to life, I prefer quality to quantity. Romance makes for an interesting and slightly-controversial character option, sure, but even there TGY was careful to be very conservative and (to me anyway), seemingly less-rigidly defined. Yes, Skyrim's engine does restrict modders when it comes to relationships, but TGY generally used more open-ended dialogue and a graded system which allowed for middle grounds and interpretation (e.g. vanilla's "I'm glad I'm here with you"), rather than relying on a clear status like "Officially Friends" or "Officially Lovers" the way SDA does, with the latter being hard underlined by Serana constantly telling the player she loves them, etc. Or as Martimius refers to it "All lovey-dovey".

Is that wrong? Am I not giving SDA enough credit? Is there more to that mod than I'm giving it credit for? Or is it really just "Fanboy Serana"? And if it is, is there an earlier version to use that's still just a small compliment to SDE rather than overwhelming it?

A dollar menu offering. Not exactly but I think I know what you mean. Yes. A completely different character. A well done mod, worth checking out but, not the Serana I thought I knew. Meh, not a huge deal but, also not in my load list any more. It is what it is.

I wonder if it's still worth running *just* the original, older version of SDA, which I guess would be anything predating the 1.81 "Romance" release.

But I can't seem to find that listed in his old files - were earlier versions ever actually released? If so, does anyone have them?

EDIT: Oh, it seems like 1.81 was the first version Marty uploaded to the Nexus? I wonder if there's a way to edit out all of SDA's romance additions so that SDE's relationship mechanic remains the only one, either from SDA 1.81, or maybe the 1.96 version that was the last stable iteration before 2.0's big expansion and change of direction for SDA.

I have an older version when they  were still compatible, an LE version he had back ported. It is from when I was considering the mod but the voices were noticeably different to my ear. I will look to make sure that it was kept. I have since been attempting to get comfortable with SSE and SDA became less enjoyable to me so I am not sure it was saved.

Were there actually pre-1.81 versions of SDA? It seems like the date of SDA's first upload matches the date of the 1.81 release. Did he have a separate page earlier or was he sharing earlier versions on Discord or someplace like that before uploading 1.81 to Nexus?

About SDA's relationship mechanic, like or hate it, the "fastness" of it can be attributed to simply how short and fast the actual Dawnguard questline is, personally if it was me i'd a seen straight away how short the questline was and simply used that as a "get to know" phase and the most you could progress your relationship come the end would be she trusted you and not much else.

Alot of the questlines can be complete in mere days of in game time, much like RP'ing though your supposed to suspend disbelief since in all probability they'd take weeks if not months.

As for the protrayal of Serana, im personally going/went of it, it's just simply someone's interpretation of the character and how they think of them that, while enjoyable at first because it expanded her dialogue in situations, progressed simply into a character i no longer recognised, personally, as Serana.

The VA is good though and i actually think i'd enjoyed it more if it was a standalone custom follower.

I only use SDE now along with a mod that works to allow Serana to stay in your home (because fook dumping her at the fort or castle) simply because all i want or need is a good vanilla female character with expanded dialogue to the other questlines, surroundings etc etc, Sofia comes to mind without her type of dialogue, and having the 2nd drawback of modding on console, there aint much at all

First of all, thank you for this great mod. I have a question tho. When are we going to have 2.0?
