  • Serana Dialogue Edit - Beyond 1.0

So yeah, it's been awhile since I updated. >.> I am getting as bad as JonTron when it comes to hiatuses. It got so bad that someone named waeq17 tried starting a coup in my comment thread on the Oldrim page.

    Anyways, the next update(s).

So the plan was to do some question expansions in the normal game as well as a few other surprises. That is still the plan. But those who followed my mod page knew that I was also going to expand into the Molag Bal and Boethiah questline. That was meant to be a major surprise as it would start the first push of the mod into the main game. It still is the plan.

Problem is that life happened and I had to sacrifice the mod for life. No regrets as I needed to get my personal matters done.

But now, I am here ...

  • ThatGuyYeah - My Official Stance On Paid Modding

While I made a quick blurb about my stance about paid modding a day or so ago, I figured I would expand a bit about this.

Before I go into it here is my full disclosure: I am a college graduate that is paying for grad school while up to my neck in student loan debt and other bills. I am doing a full time course load as well as doing 3 electronics certification classes on top of all that. Any money I do make goes into my studies. So something like being able to pay for something I enjoy would be a godsend for someone like me.

On that note, though, I STILL refuse go to the pay route as well as I STILL refuse to accept any donations.

My reasoning is simple: this is a hobby that I do enjoy and I refuse to let this end up becoming work to make a quick buck...

  • Serana Dialogue Edit - The Road to 1.0, Part 7 - Main Game Dialogues, Part 2

    Finally.

After a week of dealing Creation Kit issues and asking questions about certain things, I am finally ready to post the last parts of the Main Game Dialogues. The reason I didn't publish this on Monday, as said I would, is a reason why I give Apollodown great respect for what he has done with the Civil War Overhaul. I will explain more about this in this article. The other reason was that the Player-Serana Dialogue outlines was hitting 85 pages!!! The worst part is that I AM STILL NOT DONE!!! I can easily say that I hate the Civil War questline in vanilla for various reasons that will be explained here. Without further adieu:

    Daedric Quests Extended Quest Dialogue

Pretty much I had a lot of fun with the dialogues h...

  • Serana Dialogue Edit - The Road to 1.0, Part 6 - Main Game Dialogues, Part 1

Everything that I have been doing the past few months has come to this. Serana, in some shape or form, having interactions in the Main Game. I pretty much pushed the audio that was available to the limit through immense audio editing. I am sure some people will try other things, but I can safely say that is the best most people can do with the limited audio that Serana has.

And before people ask me for the 190381.5th time, yes I will be attempting to contact the actress for who played Serana after the release of 1.0 to see if I can try and get a bit more audio. Even 5 minutes worth of audio can expand this mod immensely. It's just I wanted to wait until this mod was in live to attempt that as that would probably be my best shot in getting a response (let alone a yes or no ...

  • Serana Dialogue Edit - The Road to 1.0, Part 5 - Hearthfire and Dragonborn Dialogues

Last time, I re-introduced the Dawnguard extended dialogues for Serana. While there were some minor changes, the dialogue pretty much remained the same. While Dragonborn has some changes, the bigger winner out of all three DLCs is, surprisingly, Hearthfire. To save time, I avoided adding flowcharts this time around.

    Hearthfire - Extended Dialogues

Originally, Hearthfire was only a few lines and nothing more. This will change a bit in Version 1.0. Essentially, Serana gives somewhat of an opinion of things and becomes snippy with the player, depending on the response. So, for those who have been using the Hearthfire edition, you will be getting more bang for your 'buck.'

Dragonborn remained a bit of the same, with some changes here and there.

  • Serana Dialogue Edit - The Road to 1.0, Part 4 - Dawnguard Extended Dialogue Redux

Over the course of the next week, I will be posting outlines for the new extended dialogues for Version 1.0, giving people plenty of opportunity to see what will be changed in the new dialogue as well as see what dialogue responses will affect the relationship mechanic. I will be doing this for Dragonborn, Hearthfire and the Main Questlines. I will be posting technical documentation and flow charts of the new dialogue. So, spoiler warning.

Also. the outlines are color coded (Cyan - EditGreen - Actual Dialogue AddingGrey - SRV ChangeYellow - Quest Name Highlight). It's a little more complicated to understand, but if you want to see what new dialogue has been added, read the green highlights. if you want to see what vanilla dialogue changes the Serana Relationship Value, rea...

  • Serana Dialogue Edit - The Road to 1.0, Part 3

As I am almost done with the hardest parts of the construction for this mod, I am approaching one of the messiest aspects of this mod (but far from the most difficult - that will be talked about in Part 4). I am talking about Serana's Clicked Hello and Goodbye Dialogues.

Now, to the regular observer, you would think "But doesn't she already have this already?" followed by "Why bother messing with it?" The answer is very simple: it's a giant mess that needs to be fixed.

But before I got into detail about why it is a mess, I want to touch on one aspect of Serana that made A LOT OF PEOPLE hate her (which correlates into why this aspect of her is a mess). I am talking about these five words:

    "Yes? What did you need?"

  • Serana Dialogue Edit - The Road to 1.0, Part 2

    What does "Live Phase" mean?

I have probably answered this question or similar questions when this mod was in its “Beta Phase.” Simply put, when I built this mod originally, I had three phases in mind:

-Phase One would be bug fixes and personal edits. Pretty much establish what this mod is going to do.
-Phase Two would be quest dialogue expansion. Push Serana into becoming a livelier version of what she used to be.
-Phase Three would be the risker and exciting features that I wanted to add into Serana. Essentially, completing the goal of this mod in making Serana the follower that Bethesda wanted (and possibly, even more).

But because of my OCD and my inner engineer, I decided to use a bastardized version of the software releas...

  • Serana Dialogue Edit - The Road to 1.0, Part 1

This has been a crazy month for this mod. Breaking 1k endorsements, in contention for one of the Files of the Month for September, and had an article written about me (thank you chrispz). I was hoping that I would at least get a few people to like this mod, but this goes beyond anything that I could ever had imagined. Thank you everyone for your support.

So, with the release of Version 0.8 and the poll resulting in Version 1.0 being built next (completely skipping Version 0.9), I figured that I would give people an idea of what to expect when the mod is released in December/January.

The big thing is a complete tear down of the mod and rebuilding it from scratch. Some things will be stay the same about the mod, but other things will change. Pretty much, 75% of the ...

  • Serana Dialogue Edit - The Future

Hard to imagine that this mod has made it this far. This newest version of the mod allows Serana to have some dialogue in Dragonborn. I, once again, do thank the people that helped test Version 0.75 last week as it helped with the release of the mod. With the release of this mod, I am hoping that I made Serana a more immersive follower than what vanilla has given us. Regardless of what the final judgment may be, I am happy with what has been produced so far.

So, what is exactly left with this mod?

The short answer is: A lot.

The long answer is: A hell of a lot.

As stated a few times in the past, Version 0.7-0.8 would have been the point where people could have downloaded the mod and get a sense of completeness with the mod. With the relea...

  • Serana Dialogue Edit - Version 0.75

Thank you everyone for your support for the mod and everything else.

You are not reading that title wrong. We are completely skipping Version 0.6 and 0.7 for Version 0.75. There is a reason why I am doing this and it will be explained here.

One of the major goals I had with this mod was to see if I can expand Serana's dialogue into Dragonborn and Hearthfire. This is no easy task as I am limited in her dialogue pool. You also have to consider that Serana has different 'moods' throughout Dawnguard. Serana during Bloodline is very different from Serana in Chasing Echoes and Kindred Judgment. Serana in Dragonborn has to reflect that.

Of course, I could just make the whole thing universal, not worry about what quest the player is doing and be d...

  • Serana Dialogue Edit - Version 0.5 Flowcharts

Hard to imagine the amount of support I have gotten for this. I want to thank everyone for your comments and suggestions.

Anyways, Version 0.5 is going to be released in 2-3 weeks and in the last article, I showed what I am planning through messing around the Creation Kit and began talking about future requirements. In Version 0.45, I officially added the requirements for the mod. But after talking with some people, I decided to make a non-Hearthfire edition of the mod for those who don't use Hearthfire in their playthroughs.

But the reason I am writing this article is to introduce the flowcharts that will be used for this mod. One of the big features of this mod is to introduce a custom dialogue tree to Serana in order to give her an immersive feel to her cha...

  • Serana Dialogue Edit - Serana's Beta Phase

I wanted to thank everyone who has been supportive and given advice with my mod up to this point. The point of the Alpha phase was to mostly 'fill in the holes' that Serana had with her dialogue as well as use other dialogue options that she had that weren't implemented in the main phase of the mod. There wasn't much risk involved with the mod during this phase as it just consisted of busy work as well as implementing and removing certain conditions.

The Beta phase of the mod will change all that.

Here, I am going to be taking risks with what this mod can do and how much I can re-utilize her dialogue to make her a well developed NPC. You can begin to see some of the things I am going to do with the release of Version 0.4 of the mod.

    On...
