DEFINITION

A Replica
is a craftable unenchanted copy, genuine or counterfeit, of a "unique" item—a Special Equipment—which is temper-able if the original is.

A Special Equipment
is a vanilla, enchanted, non-craftable item that is unique in appearance and in terms of its rarity. Examples includes the Daedric artefact Dawnbreaker and armour of the Thieves Guild.

METHOD OF ACQUIREMENT

The knowledge on how to craft the Replicas is dotted across the world, commonly found in the form of "crafting books" and near the genuine and/or original item. Some of them may only present themselves after a critical choice or commitment is made.

APPENDIX

Installing the Mod on an Existing Save/Mid-Game
Version 1.2.1 has "backward-compatible" checks. If you installed this mod mid-game and/or have already done actions or choices related to acquiring the Replicas prior to installing this mod, you are either given access to the recipes automatically (without the books) or you simply return to the site of the original artifact to get the recipe books. In some cases this may render a given recipe book wholly unnecessary.
