Hey all, I hope this guide proves helpful. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for improvements. I can try to answer technical questions, but I'm not really a tech guy, so I might not be the best person to ask. Good places to ask technical questions include TES Reloaded's page and the forum for Bevilex's guide (the latter of which I've found especially helpful, so special thanks to those guys!).
This guide was made with OR 6 in mind. My understanding is that OR 9 changed quite a few things, including perhaps the location and/or name of the ini file. I haven’t checked the new version out, so I can’t tell you where to look.
If you are using OR 9, this guide may or may not still be helpful, but I’m pretty sure at least some things will be quite different from what I describe here. I can’t guarantee that what I recommend is still good advice for the latest versions of OR.
Hi, thanks for the guide. I've been trying to get an enb working for a while and the configuring of the d3d9-43 etc in wineskin solved all issues. No one anywhere was able to provide that simple solution online so thanks again. Thought I'd also mention some additional info regarding oblivion on mac for those having trouble with HD mode (required for enb). I was getting a black screen when starting the game/loading a save after turning on HD. Looked online and discovered a fix on youtube. I changed the name of shader 002 to 019 and vice versa as instructed in the video and it worked. So if anyone has this prob, that worked for me. The shader folder is obviously in the data folder of the oblivion folder inside the wineskin.
Thanks for the lovely comment. It’s good to hear that guide is still helpful. The tech tip is also appreciated.
I haven’t been following the Mac scene as closely as I once did, but it seems that between M2 processors and greater Proton support for Macs, the possibilities for Mac gaming are greater than ever.
I followed the guide to install vanilla Oblivion, no mods, and it worked like a charm. However, I'm having an issue where no music whatsoever is playing-- not on menu nor in-game. I checked Oblivion.ini and bMusicEnabled=1...
You talking about the Mac guide? If so I’m glad it’s mostly working for you. What version of Wine are you using? I found that some newer versions had issues with music.
The guide is a bit outdated. You might have better luck with newer versions of Wineskin: https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer . Or see what’s on offer at Paulthetall’s site. I recommend sticking with 32-bit Wine versions.
Hi, when you play the game theres a "bug" that add a delay in every conversation with a npc, like 2 seconds of the line cant be heard, it happens to you?
I have a question: it is possible to disable in game menu of OR 6.5? I mean, I still want to have the tweaks but I want to disable the "O" key; so if I press "O" in game, I want that nothing happens.
I tried erasing "Menu" section on the ini but did not work.
Both wryebash and my mod manager say reloaded is active yet I see no change in game. I don't know what to do at this point, I've followed every instruction and fiddled around with my computer like crazy to no avail. I even got the 6.5 version of reloaded. Any ideas on what im doing wrong?
If you see "Oblivion Reloaded v." etc. at the bottom of the main menu, you know it's installed. You can also see if the ingame menu is usable: letter "o" by default.
Do you have OBSE and the required Visual Basic libraries installed?
Probably not, unless something is overwriting OR’s shaders somehow. You can use WB to see what files in particular are overwriting or being overwritten.
Weirdly, the Wineskin Winery App I downloaded, isn't working at all. First of all, when going to the link provided for the Unofficial Wineskin Winery page, it leads to a Nothing Found page on the Porting Team's site.
When I finally got the app, there where no engines listed. When clicking on the plus to add engines, no engines can be loaded, and when I choose download manually, it directs me to a meta download that requires an encryption key.
I had just noticed that PortingTeam seems to be defunct and was going to put up some kind of post. There are a few likely alternatives that I haven’t tested, all using Wine in different ways.
Wineskin is still being developed: https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer You need to use the command line to install Homebrew, then Wineskin, but it shouldn’t be hard.
Or install PaultheTall’s PortingKit and use his Oblivion bottle: https://www.paulthetall.com/portingkit-2/ These are basically just preconfigured Wineskin bottles.
Or purchase and install Crossover: https://www.codeweavers.com/crossover/ It’s not free, but it uses a more cutting edge implementation of Wine on Mac OS. PaultheTall also has a “crosstie” for Oblivion, which is like an automated way of installing games on Crossover: https://www.paulthetall.com/elder-scrolls-4-obvilion-mac/
Bit of a problem, though I did get Oblivion installed using Porting Kit. However, I'm trying to install WyreBash and it isn't listing the proper games at all when I go through the install. Matter of fact, it isn't listing any TES games nor does it say there are any Fallout games. Also, when I finish the install through Porting Kit, there is no WryeBash.exe file to be found, unless I install a second installation, then the Mopy folder shows up. However, even then it does not launch. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Check to see if the WB installer installed the Visual Basic vcrun2015 library. You can do this by hitting the Uninstall button in Wineskin. It won’t actually uninstall anything without further steps, but it should show you all the stuff installed in your wrapper. If you don’t see the library, install it using Winetricks.
Also, I’m assuming you made a custom executable as described in the guide.
Okay, here's an update. Things are working. My first mistake was not using a 64 bit wrapper for Oblivion. Wrye Bash needs a 64 bit wrapper, as I learned.
However, the install was still not finding Oblivion. Neither was BOSS.
But I discovered through Porting Kit you can right click on you wrapper (in this case, for Oblivion) and choose Add Item/Mod. Doing this, I could install Wrye Bash and BOSS. Then, once those were installed (both successfully found Oblivion), I then went back to the Oblivion wrapper and chose "create short cut." This option places a shortcut in Porting Kit for you. I just went to the directory where Wrye Bash and BOSS were (creating two separate shortcuts) and foiund the executables.
And they worked!
Now, I just need to figure out how to properly use Wrye Bash to install mods because I don't know how to do that properly, apparently.
NOTE: I attempted to install OBMM but required .Net framework which was not installed. It did not work at all, which is sad because I know how to use OBMM.
I’ve had better luck with dotnet in 32-bit wrappers, but it’s finicky in Wine. You could maybe experiment with putting obmm in a separate 32-bit wrapper and see if you can point it to the contents of your Oblivion wrapper. That said, Wrye Bash is worth learning to use no matter what, and your time is probably better spent doing that than hacking a workaround for obmm’s sake.
Im glad to hear PK is working for you, and that you’re figuring out its features. It’s not a program I’m very familiar with, so you’re kind of on your own.
It's weird, when I bash and move forward/hold forward at the same time, I shield bash AND kick forward, which is weird even though kicking requires Acrobatics to be above 50 (If I'm not mistaken)
So I gave myself 100 Acrobatics to test the kicks. Instead of the kicking left and right like usual, I end up.....jumping? I'm so confused
I do hope you have a solution, because DR6 is easily one of my favorite mods for Oblivion and I somewhat refuse to play without it.
Deadly Reflex has a reputation for being buggy, so I’d test your issue without OR or any other mods installed before blaming it on a mod conflict. Otherwise, try disabling gameplay features in OR’s ini or cfg files, things like gravity and dodge settings. I’m not keeping up with the latest versions of OR, so I’d ask at tesreloaded or on Alenet’s Discord if you still have issues.
Latest versions of OR have a cfg file instead of ini.
To use the in-game settings, you need a number pad, I believe. You can try Oblivion Reloaded Lite, which has a workaround. Or you can just use the cfg file.
Thanks for helping through all this. Changed some stuff on the config file and I've gotten it to work. Though I have one question if
When I'm in first person and I talk to someone, the dialogue zooms in to the NPC's face, like it does in vanilla. But when I end the conversation, it sort of like forces my camera to third person, and of course I have to press R and go back to first person every time I end a converstation. Is there a fix for this in the config perhaps?
Hey, sorry if I keep bothering you. I did as you suggested. Turned off camera mode (set it to 0) and then switched to enhanced camera. But, my game crashes! What do I do? :(

Hi 1Mac! Thanks so much for your guides. They've been very helpful. I have run into a small issue with getting Wrye Bash to run on Mac, however.
I've gotten to the point where Oblivion and obse are installed and ready to go. I've also installed Wrye Bash via its exe. When I try and create a new exe for Wrye Bash, it creates the app but it won't open - I've double click it but nothing happens.
If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks!
So I think I've managed to find a workaround. Wrye Bash will open now, but not from its custom executable. I have to make the path to the main Oblivion app go to Wrye Bash and then it will open. Then once I want to actually play the game I have to change it back to obse. It's inconvenient, but I suppose it will work.
That’s peculiar; if you can set WB as the main exe, there shouldn’t be anything preventing you from making a functional custom exe. It maybe worth asking the current Wineskin dev about your issue. https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer
Hi - I'm having the same problem. Could you elaborate how you got Wrye Bash to run? I tried changing the path from obse_launcher to Wrye Bash but it still won't open. Using Wrye Bash 308. Thanks!
It sounds like you have a slightly different problem, actually. OP could get WB to run, just not as a custom exe. If I’m reading you correctly, you can’t get WB to run at all.
Wrye Bash needs Visual Basic libraries to run, vcrun2015 in particular, if I recall correctly. The WB installer should have installed it automatically. If it didn’t, you can install it using Winetricks.
Hi.. I'm in a conundrum. I installed OR 8.4 through MO2, then I decided I need against it, so I ticked the left hand panel off. And after that everytime I started Oblivion through MO via OBSE or Oblivion.exe (force load obse.dll) voila, video intro is gone, map loop is gone, music intro not playing anymore. All the original files are still intact and exist in their original folder.
Can anyone help me or tell me where did I go wrong? Thanks in advanced. ^-^
Try deleting and regenerating your Oblivion.ini file, the one in your My Games folder. (Do not delete or edit the Oblivion_default.ini file in your Oblivion folder.) Given how MO2 works, installing and uninstalling OR shouldn’t change any vanilla files, but OR does make edits to the ini file, so that’s my best guess.
Hey 1Mac! Thanks so much for this excellent writeup that has helped me navigate and understand Oblivion Reloaded to the point where it runs smoothly! However, I've got a couple of questions I was hoping you'd take a look at.
I'm running around Weye while I'm modding and haven't really gone anywhere else (will start a fresh character once I'm done modding), so I don't know if this problem exists elsewhere in the world, though I'd assume so. Anyway, the bridge to IC has a really stark shadow on it, as shown in the picture.
? If i move further away from the bridge, the shadow keeps moving down until it covers the whole tower. If i move closer, it moves off the tower completely. Any idea what this is, and can I do anything about it? (The shadow does not move onto the houses or along the path or anything, just on the tower itself.)
Another issue I have is with shadows cast from fireplaces. If I'm some distance away from the fireplace, it looks fine:
? However, if I move closer, the fireplace mantle, chest, banners, etc all turn nearly black:
? Any way to fix these two things?
EDIT: Just wanted to add that the fireplace issue doesn't seem to happen with any other light sources.
Hey thanks, I’m glad to hear the guide is still useful. Unfortunately I haven’t been keeping up with OR apart from checking in with the TesReloaded Discord on occasion. I suggest checking in there, or on their website and asking there. First I’d make sure that the problem really is OR, of course.
Thanks for the super quick reply! I'll head on over to TESReloaded to ask there. :) If you decide to get into it again I'm sure there's lots of us who would appreciate it - there are some differences in OR now from when you wrote your guide. :) At the time of the screenshot I hadn't added any other mods (besides DarnUI), so it's definitely OR. Hopefully the smart people over on their forum will have an answer!
Hey dude, I uninstalled Oblivion Reloaded because it messed with my ENB but after I did this my main menu is permanantely f***ed as it has no music nor does it have the map in the background . I just wondered if you knew of a potential fix because I imagine it stems from Oblivion Reloaded's custom main menu. I also deleted my Oblivion.ini to see if a fresh one would be the fix but that didn't work. Thanks in advance.
I’m assuming you have DarN but didn’t use a BAIN installer. The solution should be to install the DarN BAIN I linked to in the guide and install with Wrye Bash. That should restore the xml files that were removed when you uninstalled OR.
ps Probably a good idea to uninstall DarN via OBMM if that’s how you installed it.
