I'm not getting any training. I went to the arena's blood works to use one of the training dummies and I have been wacking at it all day long with my sword with no results. I am following the instructions based on the page, which is having a sword drawn and approaching a training dummy until it turns white. The only other mod I have installed is the xbox controller support.

Sounds like you didn't activate the mod. Run the Launcher, click Data, and check the .esp

Does this work with Ultimate Leveling?

Honestly, I have no idea. From the documentation I guess it may work with the "vanilla" skill leveling setting of Ultimate Leveling, but I doubt it will work with the other settings.

It works just fine, but don't use it along with the experience leveling system of Ultimate Leveling, it won't work that way.

Although it must be said that it gives you less experience for dummy training than you get it in a combat situation. But I like it, because as in real life the experience you get in a real, stressfull and dangerous combat situation is much more valuable than the experience you get in a safe training session out of any danger (in a computer simulation for example).

This mod does exactly what I wanted it to. Just be wary of sharing a dummy with an NPC--it's a lot easier than you'd think to accidentally hit them, and they don't really have a sense of humor about it. Ask me how I know.

How would I go about removing all flashing targets, even the initial glow? I find it unimmersive.

I haven't been using this mod for a long time. Its functionality is covered by "Unnecessary Violence III", which I'm using.
A quick look at the scripting shows that you'll need to remove or comment all lines where the "pms" function (PlayMagicShaderVisuals) is used in script "DummyTrainingQS".

I did that, but then I could not save the script. I got an error about unrecognisable lines. Any ideas why? Thanks for the quick response.

No idea. You either remove the whole line where the pms function is used or you put a ; in front of it to turn it into a comment, thus disabling the code functionality for this line.

Nice update. There's a cheat to training marksman if you have denock arrow. It counts as a release, so if you draw and denock quickly you can level fast. I tested to see how fast I could, and got 10 levels in 30 min game time. My game timescale is set to 15. I'm already a good shot with realistic archery installed. I usually don't do stuff like that, but I wanted to fast level marksman in practice and not console. Usually go for immersion.

Thank you. Unfortunately I don't know how to check if the target was really hit. Otherwise I might as well get rid of the skill + luck/4 miss formula. At least I made sure that in order to train destruction you have to cast a spell so when being out of magical power the game doesn't count your unsuccessful attempts to cast.

If you decide to look in to it and figure out how, maybe you could also figure out how to check the name of the target. I normally train in Chorrol, and even though the original mod states any target, it actually has a selected target. In Chorrol its the bail most to the left, which also has a path that a lot of npcs use. I've gotten plenty of bounties because of that. Still enjoy the mod greatly. Just ideas. Pretty sure the inter mod reaction is also with the original, never found out though. I only discovered it because i train at master distance, which is across the road from the bails and I denocked when a line of npcs came walking to the gate one morning.

I won't be able to fix the cheating issue for marksman but I don't really care about that either. Everyone is responsible for his own cheating attempts anyway.

About the target acquisition I have good news for you. I just uploaded version 1.1 where you can select the target on the fly. *hooray* another improvement over the original mod.
Please try it and report if that works well for you. It worked well when I tested but no two game installations are the same.

Awesome, it works nicely. Now it truly is any target. Upon a little more testing, you get the exp upon drawing the arrow, not release. Thank you for your updates to this great mod.

Yes, you get the XP for activating the attack as long as it's not considered a miss. That's the same for melee and casting. I didn't change that from the original mod (except for casting which didn't exist in the original mod).

Any chance to add blocking skill increases for those who have shield bash mod?

I'm currently not into modding Oblivion. I don't even have the game installed at the moment.

Block could be trained really easily in the base game anyway. Just find some Mud Crabs, shield in one hand, healing skill in the other and then start blocking all attacks and heal from time to time.

Great idea, especially for the beginning of the game. It only makes sense that a beginner in the mage or fighter's guild would hone his/her skills on a dummy. Or try out the fire spell for a while to get the hang of it. Well done.

Haven't installed it yet, but this is exactly what I was looking for; some way to train Destruction before having access to spellmaking.
I've used Setsuna's version for years, and just came across this one. if it works as advertised, you definitely have my endorsement. Thank you!!

It's been a while since my last post, I know. After lots of use I have come to LOVE this mod. I like the modifications you've made. I would only suggest the inclusion of some kind of diagram or explanation of where it is best to hit, say, a chain doll.
I've endorsed, and highly recommend this mod to anyone who wants to train their skills!

Good to hear that you like the modifications. I'm not sure what you mean by "diagram or explanation". It doesn't matter where the dummy is hit. The miss chance or better "chance for improvement" is randomized. The only important thing is that you are in range and have acquired the target.

Ah, okay. I was under the mistaken impression that if I hit the doll in say the leg, then my chances of scoring a hit were less than something like the center-of-mass.
      Thank you!

This is a really great mod. I've always though this should be a feature in TES series but I can see how it is something that can quickly be abused. One comment that I think would improve this mod is if fatigue affected how often you are likely to miss.

I cannot get Destruction spell training working!!! How do I make it work, please? When I have weapon/hand to hand ready, it only counts my hits next to the dummy as hand to hand/blade training. When I go further, it says I am too far away and casting spells do not work either. I donĀ“t know what to do

You can train destruction just firing ranged spells to Hanging target with red round mark with drawing weapon on hand.
here is a video how it works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_vwy7OaWwU#t=5m13s
