The best grass mods for performance out there. Only use if your computer has problem running the game exterior because this thing gives
    SIGNIFICANT FPS BOOST !

It also comes with its own short grass version.

Open the archive with 7-Zip. (Don't extract the whole thing, just open it.)
Choose which level you want & open its folder from within 7-Zip.
Extract the "Oblivion" and "Plants" folders to your \Oblivion\Data\Meshes folder.
If prompted to overwrite, choose Yes.
There are 12 levels to choose from, so remember to only extract one of the "Oblivion" & "Plants" folders to Oblivion\Data\Meshes.
I would recommend you back up your existing Meshes folder (or at least the \Meshes\Oblivion & \Meshes\Plants folders) before doing this, that way if you don't like what this mod has done, you can copy the original Meshes back in.
Definitely don't try installing with NMM.
You can try using Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM) and install the OMOD file provided. I use Wrye Bash personally, so I'm not sure how well OBMM will work for you.
If you don't have an existing Meshes folder then you will need to use some type of archive invalidation/redirection. But that's a whole other can o' worms and is usually best handled by a mod organizer (Wrye Bash, OBMM, TMM, MO, etc.). Are you using any of these?
You can also refer to the ReadMe included in the download.
      Hope this helps!

Edit: Scratch the part about Archive Invalidation. I decided to read up on the subject again and it shouldn't be needed for a mesh only replacer such as this. You can read more about it here if you're interested. Although, you can skip the first part about BSA-Aleration, as BSA-Redirection is really the preferred method. That depends. If they only change the grass textures, it's compatible. If the other mod also changes the meshes, them it's incompatible.

I've read of people using it in conjunction with Short Grass v3, which just edits grass height (as far as I'm aware).
LowPoly Grass replaces the exact same files as this mod, minus the Oblivion realm grass, so you'd have to choose one or the other.

How does this compare to "LowPoly Grass"?

This is my first Oblivion comment in.... .....jeez, it must be like 6 or 7 years. Man, I feel old.

Anyway, I tried this mod (the chosen oblivion and plants folders go in the data\meshes folder, for anyone who wasn't sure) and definitely noticed a difference. I used the level 3 shorter grass and my game is noticeably smoother with grass that actually looks like grass instead of a field of green wheat. While the performance change wasn't necessarily severe (I didn't jump 20 FPS or anything) it made a bigger difference in my game than the Short Grass mod, which didn't seem to change a whole lot.

    Thanks!

I'm sort of amazed. My computer is far from a strong gaming rig but I can still at least play most modern games. But Oblivion was getting a lot of fps drops. Even when an turned down the view distances a bit. Did some .ini tweaks and there was improvement but still lot of stuttering and such outdoors. I install this mod? Biggest performance improvement I've seen from one change yet!

Incredible performance improvement. I am running and MMM4OOO game and this helped with lag more than reduced spawn rates. Thank you!
