Overview:
This mod adds a new compact SMG using 5.56 rounds. It has a much faster fire rate than other SMGs, but a lower damage per shot to compensate. It's on par, DPS-wise, with the late game 12.7mm SMG. Both variants are fully integrated into leveled lists, appearing in shops at the same time as the 12.7mm SMG, and appearing in the inventories of Marked Men Scouts in Lonesome Road.
Where the 5.56 SMG gets interesting is with its craftable alternative- the Voltaic SMG. The Voltaic SMG has a fission battery taped to the front of it, which feeds into an electrical coil that charges bullets as they're fired. This applies the Tesla Cannon's electrocution effect to the shots- bumping it above the 12.7mm SMG in terms of raw DPS. This also comes with a unique projectile, muzzle flash, and new sounds.
These guns fire in 3 round bursts on a short click, and full auto when you hold the trigger. Huge thanks to MCTammer for the bulk of the code for that. Check out his work here. The code in question came from the Recon 10mm SMG featured in his Nif-Bashed Weapon pack.
Both versions of the 5.56 SMG are moddable, with extended mags and barrels to increase ammo capacity and reduce spread respectively. If you are going to craft the Voltaic variant, make sure to remove the weapon mods from your base 5.56 before doing so- otherwise they will disappear. The newest version of lStewieAl's Tweaks includes a partial fix for this.

The models featured in this video are a little out of date, but the sounds and functionality are consistent with the released version.
